The article reads more like extrapolation than briefing. I do love Rafa like most United fans but his injury record is simply unacceptable. Coleman is an excellent player moving into his peak years too.

No thanks.
lol, what would you suggest we do about our RB problem then? We got no one from the acadamy good enough to take the spot and Rafael spends all his time on the treatment table, so nothing we can do but buy a RB and Coleman is the best available.

Would love it if we get Coleman. He would be a major improvement and with him Rafael and Shaw we would have 3 very good fullbacks in the squad. LVG said he has been playing 3 at the back because he has not had any fullbacks available and this would be a big move towards us playing 4 at the back more constantly.

There are other enough good fullbacks out there without spunking a solid amount for a player at a team who will try to rob us for every penny they can. Why can it not be a younger, versatile player who would be content to play half the season, in unison with Rafael? Somebody like Vrsaljko or Mario Fernandes, for example. Rafael is a very good fullback, people seem to forget this. I'm really not convinced by Coleman too, he has a great engine and does a lot going forward, but Everton have been shocking defensively this year, and Coleman has obviously played some part of that.

I don't rate Coleman as highly as I used too after Everton's performances this season. He's exceptional going forward (arguably the best in the league), that is indisputable, but I think he's been quite poor defensively and culpable for quite a few goals Evertpn have conceded. Martinez isn't a very good defensive coach and in order to reach the peak of his powers from a defensive perspective he probably needs tutelage under a different coach, but I agree with DWelbz that there will be far more viable and suitable right back at more reasonable prices than Coleman. Clyne being one in fact.

Had no idea he's 26. Thought he was like 22. Suddenly £25million does seem a bit extravagant.
26 is not that old. Coleman coulf easily gove us 5-6 years if quality service, and then maybe 1-2 years of service as a veteran, you know, experience and all that.

If he does give us a good 5 years, and we win a few titles on top of that, 25 million would have been worth it.

For that price, we should get Clyne. He's been better this season and is younger.

Regardless of who we buy and at what cost, we must buy a RB in this window.

Valencia cannot be our back-up RB, he does a good job at RWB and in some matches we can make the most of him on the wing... but he is not good enough to be an out and out full back. With that, when Rafael gets injured (not if because we know it'll happen) we need to make sure we have a proper RB to play there and not move Smalling/Jones/Valencia there. Smalling & Jones need time to improve in the middle and as mentioned, Tony can't be our back-up.

There aren't a great deal of good right backs in the world and Coleman is certainly up there so if it's gonna cost us 20mil for a proven PL solid RB then i'm happy.

Jamie Jackson with that article. Suffice to say that in actuality, Coleman wouldn't even be on our radar.

Unlikely to be any truth in it however it would be a good move for all involved, there's no reason why you couldn't keep him and Rafa happy, especially when we make it into the Champions League next season.

Coleman would be a great signing but I prefer Clyne. If Alves is available on a free in the summer then that would be a decent signing too.

Alves is the exact kind of signing I dread. Getting on and nothing to prove. We need younger, talented players that will come to United chomping at the bit.

Even this summer, only Di Maria came to the club having left in a position of strength. The others, including Falcao, came here with a lot to demonstrate given their fees, and that's a good thing.

We do need a right back and I wouldn't have a problem if it were Coleman. I prefer him over Clyne, too.

If we are going to spend 20 - 25 on a full back, then i would like to have someone who can defend really well, which is their primary job, if the player is good going forward then that is even better. Rafael can be world class, but is no good sitting on the treatment table for 70% of the season. We need to get a starter to replace Rafael.

I'd rather Clyne because of his versatility. As good as Young has been at LWB I'd still rather see us play with 4 at the back and Clyne can play in both fullback positions and we need cover for Rafael and Shaw if we do switch to a back 4.

I like Coleman, but if he's worth 25m, how much is Zabaleta worth? Or even Ivanovich? Both, in my view, better defenders, with the former being quite easily the best right back in the league imv.

Still, he'd be a good addition given that Rafael cannot stay fit for any decent period of time sadly.

He'd be expensive but I could see a lot of pluses in signing Coleman.

1. He's certainly better than the likes of Clyne, even if Clyne is more versatile.
2. His attacking strengths make him very much a United type fullback as opposed to the defensively strong but limited going forward type.
3. If we're going to keep switching between fullbacks/wingbacks then Coleman is particularly well suited to us, much more so than Rafael.
4. He's entering his prime years and (with so many young players in the squad) maybe that's no bad thing?

That said, I have a policy of not believing anything Jackson says. These stories were bound to start popping up once Martinez denied Coleman would be leaving yesterday.

He is a United type player. He is the sort of Irish player that United would have found in the 70's 80's and 90's but it seems like the scouting in Ireland isnt as fruitful as it once was.

Gotta think that Everton would sell him after spending so much on a striker who hasn't really performed. They're probably getting nervous over there. 20-25m and he's a United player imo.

Surely, there's a foreign RB somewhere who's not overrated and overpriced like Coleman or Clyne?

Coleman is significantly better than Clyne IMO.

Going by this season, that's a no. If Clyne continues to have the season he's having, then I'd say he'll have a better than Coleman's last year. Plus, Clyne is 23.

I'd take Clyne over Coleman for the reported £25million.
