We don't even offer more than 1/2 year deals to players above 30 IIRC.

Paying 60 million and putting a 30 year old on a massive 5 year contract would be a big risk.

He will still be a very good player for few years but will he be a as good as he is ?

Obviously we would take him back in a heart beat. Even a 30+ year old Ronaldo would be more effective than Rooney and RvP combined, especially if he's reunited with Di Maria and with Strootman pulling the strings in midfield.

Might be the wrong thread to post in but does anyone else find it weird that some PL managers and owners use twitter? Just watching SSN and the twitter reaction from yesterday's games, Gary Monk tweeted about the Swansea result and David Gold tweeted about Mandy Carroll being back in training, I just find it quite strange that people with such authority would use social media.

Ego! Or wanting to get news out first and from the horses mouth rather than it being twisted by "ITK" posters?

Nah, I don't think it's strange at all. I like it.

Yeah with David Gold I think it's an ego thing, especially announcing players are back from injury, why not let the manager announce it in a press conference?

Asking for trouble though, don't you think?

For someone like Gold, yeah probably, he seems to be an idiot.

I think it's really useful if done properly though, and most clubs will be sensible about it and discuss some strict guidelines about posting. It's a chance to get a bit more connected to the fans.

I think David Gold will try any trick he can to piss Allardyce off. It's one of the worst kept secrets in football that he wanted him out in the summer, and still does now. They will undermine Big Sam any chance they get this season. Seems completely counter productive to me.

The fee is meant to come off the price, believed to be about £40-45m right (like 50m euros)? So it's be like £35-40m

I really have no idea. Certainly upwards of 50 million imo.

So we buy him for £30-50m and only give him a 2 year deal? Eh no I can't see that happening buddy. Will be a 4 year minimum I'd imagine.

There are a couple of MLS owners that use it. Merritt Paulson, who owns Portland Timbers, is pretty refreshingly honest.

As much as i love Ronaldo that is steep for a 30 year old.
We are getting the best player in the world currently. He has niggling knee issues but he is a club legend, will sell shirts for crazy and according to the club, he wants to play for United again which seems like a very important criteria for Woody. BRING HIM BACK!

Oh and sign Reus!

Isn't he the Liverpool owner?

Imagine Woodward tweeting "Note to self. Sign Reus"

Amateur.

That's just a joke about how for a period they were being spammed by "Sign Reus" tweets, isn't it?
