Can't help but agree with what you say, though Welbeck was seldom played as a striker for us
He had his chance last year, when RVP was injured. Then when Rooney was injured for a while. Football is a cruel world but when your chance omes you have to take and take it well. Players like Wilson just have it. He had one chance in the first team adn he scored two goals. He came on against MK Dons for 15 minutes and did more than Chicha and Welbz almost scoring brilliant twice too. Sadly, we can't have link-up strikers in LVG's teams. The Link-up players must be finishers as well.

Finishing strikers have an instinct in front of goal. Even if they're played on the wing a lot, finishing is instinctual. Rene Muelensteen said in SSN today that he wasn't a finisher but more of a very good link-up player. He'll do well at Arsenal, but he's not going to turn into Henry.

Still he'll do well. Loved his attitude.

When will Blind's number be announced?

Suppose it will be no.15 but could be any from 14, 15, 17, 19, 22, 26, 27, 29

I think LVG told the players who would get games, and who wouldn't, then let the players decide what to do

That is exactly what happened as told to us by... LVG himself! Welbeck is the one that decided to leave. We didn't willingly bandy about his price tag. He's 23 and in need of game time.

The second paragraph is spot on. He isn't a natural finisher and that's what the top clubs want when they play 4-3-3.

Not having a great forward cost Arsenal last year and for me could cost them this year again. Welbeck could find himself in the same position at Arsenal next year that he was this because sooner or later they should bring in a big name striker in the vein of an Ozil or Sanchez.

Mixed feelings... I really loved Welbz. Followed his progress since he was 12. Sadly, he never quite made the big step up. He's been let go because of the burgeoning talent of Wilson. I know Wilson will be an even better player for us but Danny was the quickest United player I've seen bar Ronnie. Can't help but love some hard-working, fast running, athletic strikers. He was our lad.

But, I respect his will to play more first team football. We have a very important season ahead of us and we can't have someone who is still figuring out his form in front of goal. We need finished products and also help along the next line of talent through.

Perreira, Wilson, Powell, Rothwell... As Louis Van Gaal said: We will keep focusing on youth development, but right now the return of the first team to greatness is the most important thing.

Goodbye Danny.
Agree with this.

Good post.

Welbeck's mix of strength, technique and pace is very dangerous and hard to come by.. If his finishing was even just a tad better he'd be among the best in the world.. I think like Sturridge all he was missing was a regular run in the 1st team as the main striker to build up his confidence.. He never really got that and can't blame him for wanting to move to a big club looking for that.

Will surely be ahead of Giroud at Arsenal and no way was he going to get much game time with Rooney, RvP and now, Falcao at the club. He'd have to wait for one or more of them to get injured to even get a look in.

I don't get that one either. We have so much trouble with finding defenders, so what's the point of letting one go on loan?

Rojo, Jones, Evans, Smalling, Blackett.. Got 5 there. Argue a case for Blind, Carrick and even Fletcher being used for cover.

He wont improve/have a chance to prove himself if he stayed here as 6th choice for a 2 man role (assuming we are going back to 4-3-3 or some variation of that)

Good move for him. Some on the caf think he isnt good enough. I think he might have a chance. A year of premier league football should be a good test.

Any news on Vidal, Strootman or Carvalho? Need to lay the groundwork for muppeting early on for the January window...

Vidal has dodgy knees, so nobody wants to touch him, Juve obviously trying to get a market going. Sporting want to get rid of Carvalho but, despite dropping price, nobody wanted to spend that money on him. Strootman is a shoe in for January if he recovers from his ACL, although Roma claim he'll cost £70 million or something...

But Anderson Young Cleverley are?

Nobody wanted Anderson, we accepted bids for Cleverley but they fell through because of his wage demands. Young... obviously Van Gaal likes him to fill in at wing back.

Still can't believe we've signed Mata, Herrera, Di Maria, Falcao, Blind, Rojo and Shaw in the last two transfer windows.
Here's hoping it continues.

Next transfer window: Strootman, Vidal and Hummels. Its ON.

Credit to Woodward too, he really delivered. Watching the space paid off.

I'm not sure he was ever going to be at the level we needed, even his debut last year was a bit of a surprise. Good luck to him, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on Leicester's games.

Will surely be ahead of Giroud at Arsenal

I'm not sure that it's that clear cut. Giroud may not be top level but he's a finisher, the one thing Danny isn't. Welbeck needs to show he's a goal scorer whilst Giroud is injured to ensure he becomes first choice.

I think Woody deserves a pat on the shoulder BUT the big 2 names who came (Di Maria, Falcao) were pushed out of there clubs which made it easier for Ed, to really prove himself he will need to buy a player a team don't want to sell! Still not taking away what he done this window.

Good news. Was hoping for this. Nothing to lose. If he does well, we get a chance to exercise option if needed. If not, we have let him progress as far as he can by letting him leave for first team action than spending one more year at u21s.

Probably Giggs. He's always mentioned he thought some of the youth/reserve team deserved a chance sooner rather than later. Personally I wouldn't like to see him back until he has learnt not to give TV interviews whilst chewing gum, with his mouth open at that! Good luck to him and Powel at Leicester.

I am not so sure about the reports of him wanting more wages which resulted his transfer to other clubs not happening.

However, I always feel his attitude is questionable. He was deemed as a potential youngster to take over the United midfield but due to his injury, he was never the same. He then went on to become more shite under Moyes and never regain his confidence on the pitch.

What he did during these couple of years was why I never like him. He was given chance after chance to regain back his fitness and capability but more often than not he let himself down on the pitch. He then go on and try to defend himself off the pitch with social media stating that he is not as bad as people think. Making those statements didn't help him at all when he prove to be useless/harmful to the team. Out there saying he has been wrongly blamed as the scapegoat but he did not do himself any favor to prove his doubters wrong. Saying La Liga players passing sideways are the way to go.

I believe he overrated himself to a certain extent that he did not feel he was so poor in the first place.

How does him leaving help anything ? You'd rather Fletcher, Anderson, Fellaini get minutes ?

In case you misses out, this was my opinion from his thread.

I saw that, he came across a real tool.

Yeah, afterall that's what is important as a professional footballer. Let's hope that it's part of his development eh?

I mean who ever amounted to anything chewing gum in interviews?

:fergie:

Let's pray.

Our Father, which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our Daley Blind,
And taketh away our Cleverley,
And others alike.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine will bring us the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

Young's needed at wingback for depth. I think he told the other two they can leave (Cleverley definitely) but they decided not to.
Yeah Young/Valencia were very impressive pre-season at wing back. If we stick with this system it will be very handy to have both of them covering Shaw/Rafa. That being said, Young needs to take a pay cut!
