Transfer Muppet Fantasy

Why do you think it would be a problem? Messi is the one who seems a bit lost in there, imo. Would be funny if we again have a Ronaldo vs Messi match with both on the wrong team .

That's the issue, with Ronaldo it should be fine, with Messi it's a mess.

I'd rather play Messi on the right in that setup than false 9. He's been so awesome as a false 9 but he was devastating on the right as well, and tore one defense after another apart with his insane dribbling.

That makes sense
Rivaldo-Sheva-Messi
Vieira-Zidane-Seedorf

Figo was a better right winger than Messi though.

Different types of players who fit in different systems. IMO Messi would be better for Pol's team. Guess Messi's heroics as false 9 have made people foget that he spent a good part of his 'peak' as the right forward and scored belters week in week out, also winning a Ballon Dor thanks to that, the crowning achievement of Figo's career.

Worth 40m not having to face him, let alone having him on my side:lol:

Aye, that's fair. As a defensive move it is OK I suppose. I still can't believe you have Figo, Rivaldo and Zidane yet won't bite Annah's hand off for Ronaldo.

Brazil partnership, Barca (Figo) and Real (Figo, Zidane) partnerships.

FWIW, if you keep Messi, I would play Figo on the left and sell Rivaldo. Crappy may want him with Goofy.

Didn't know you had Cafu. That makes it even better!
Thanks to your great suggestion Aldo

Aye, Figo could play left right centre, he was impressive for Portugal in the centre and I remember him frequently switching to the left for Barca, including that wonderful dummy he sold to Beckham in that 3-3 classic.
Messi is the closest anyone got to Maradona's level, the difference that elevates Barca from being a great team to one that contends with Pele's Brazil and Baresi's Milan as the greatest of all time

As a right winger yes but as a right forward cutting in with Cafu bombing forward on the outside and sheva making diagonal runs?
Figo won Ballon d'Or and WPOTY playing that role. Scored the most goals he ever scored in 1999-00 and 2000-01 as well IIRC. He set the record for most assists in a season (16, when MARCA first started counting assists officially) before Xavi tied it in 2008-09.

Can't see why you wouldn't just swap Messi for Ronaldo + money. I don't know about the rest of your defence but that front three would be really nice. I know that Figo had at least 13 assists in the 1996-97 season with Ronaldo, the others don't need explanations...

We have a few options so we're in no panic.

This is one, but we would only do it if the deal was fair. It strengthens Annah a lot.

Aye Figo was one of my favourites as well, amazing football brain to go with his marvellous technique, loved his performance at euro 2000 too

As shared above, handing Messi to Annah is handing him the keys to his kingdom, it is a risk we prefer not to take unless necessary

It's cutting the nose to spite the face stuff. Annah got Ronaldo so he wouldn't face him and now Pol has Messi and doesn't want to face him. I would hate to see them meet each other with the wrong players. Don't see why there needs to be any money involved, 40M was a good price for Ronaldo. Any money thrown on top is basically making Ronaldo a 35 or 30M player, which is ridiculous when he only just got bought for 59M in the previous round!

Yeah agree with all of this. I'd also look forward to a souped-up and strengthened Real Galacticos versus Guardiola's Barcelona. Magic.

It would be a crying shame if Messi and Ronaldo were on the wrong sides, don't you think? I can see how Messi improves Annah but Ronaldo improves Pol and is tiki-taka high line kryptonite. Both have reasons not to want to face the other but if there's no swap it will be a triumph for shit on a stick.

Aye, I'd rather Annah and Pol go into battle with raging hard-ons than limp semi's.

From my POV not making a 1:1 Messi-Ronaldo swap will come back and bite us both.

Which of these is the better option?

Rivaldo-Shevchenko-Messi
----------Zidane

VS

Rivaldo-Ronaldo-Figo
---------Zidane

One is an option of great players who never played with each other and the other is clearly a top class front four where every single player is linked through their career with another making brilliant partnerships and also a higher individual quality.i

Defenders
Thuram - 18m - Crappy - 19:24
Lahm - 10m - Annah 20:05
Zanetti-15m- MJJ-20:05
Ferdinand - 12m - Annah - 20:53
Cannavaro - 12m - Annah - 20:53
Stam-10m-MJJ-20:57
Midfielders

Zidane - 10m - Pol/Theon - 19.20
Davids - 17m - Crappy-01:45
Vieira - 16m - Pol Theon - 04.13

Am I right thinking Crappy got Thuram, Annah got Lahm, Ferdinand and Cannavaro (34M for the lot is insanely cheap), MJJ got Stam and Zanetti for 25M, Pol got Zidane and we are all waiting on just a couple of midfielders?

Maybe time to bring some new names on?

Hmm.

He was actually more "entertaining" back then as he had more flair than he does now and took on players a lot more often without rarely anyone getting near him.

More flair does not equal better. Messi's peak was not as a right winger at all. It is like when some United fans suggest that Ronaldo's peak was 06/07, absurd thing to say.

 I knew it! Leave this dead long enough and you can count on crappy getting all frothy in the mouth over someone.

There is no one left to bid for really.

I wanted either Ronaldo or Rivaldo but things did not fall into place at all in terms of teams going out.

Even MJJ had that comeback to deny me Keane

Happy with this though .. not as eye catch as all the other 3 teams but very solid.

I think it is looking good, unlucky not getting Rivaldo-Ronaldo which would push it to the next level but all teams are in similar scenarios so it doesn't affect much.

Do I really need a CB/MF? Not sure Better to have Sol there so that either of Montero and Thuram can go and cover for two full backs if needed

A player capable of stepping in to the midfield means when you are up against just one striker(which seems very likely here) then one CB can take a step forward instead.

Otherwise you are left with 3 CB's constantly up against one forward which means you lose a man in the rest of the pitch.
