Transfer Deadline Day

Chelsea should have been spending money on a proper right winger.

Why? Villas-Boas loves 4-3-3, that doesn't necessarily require a proper right winger, wide attackers can do the job perfectly.

They don't have those apart from Anelka and Kalou of course so yeah, they should have signed someone.

You all loved him a couple of months ago. Premiership fans player of the season no less. Why the change of heart?

Here's a stat from some geezer called John Bradley:

JBcommentator: Raul Meireles made 44 appearances for Liverpool, he made even less tackles, supremely talented player, but didn't want to put a shift in !

That's what changed our minds over the course of a few months.

Some geezer produces a stat and you all change your minds about the player? I'm sure he didnt make any less tackles in the last couple of months than he did the rest of the season

Nothing changed your minds except a transfer request.

Couldn't it just be that he's not really one for the defensive side of the game, and if so...who cares?

Will you be selling Adam then when he does even less?

Besides, because he didn't tackle very much means he didn't put a shift in? How many crosses/assists/goals/interceptions did he make, what was the average distance he ran each game? Poor excuse to justify a strange transfer from Liverpool's perspective.

Bullshit. He won you points. He doesn't need to put in the tackles. Why the hell do you play Lucas then? We play with only Anderson and Cleverley. Do you think what they do is make tackles all the time?

Meireles made runs, he was a good shot and could pass the ball. Henderson or Adam in for Meireles I call a bad deal. Adam doesn't run and Henderson/Lucas combo are outflaired by Fletcher/Carrick even though the other half is half Brazilian.

It isn't doing Liverpool any good looking at football purely from the statistical point of view when judging players. I know that's what the owner is all about but football doesn't work that way.

With Romeu who is supposed to be an absolute beast and Ramires charging around as he does, he wouldn't need to be getting in amongst in such a fashion.

Dalglish is old fashioned. He likes his players to give 100%. More if possible, definitely not less.

Anderson and Cleverley do put in tackles, without that we'd be properly fecked.

The point of that post was what we saw over the months. The stats visualise that feeling in one short sentence for other fans that believe in player of the season ratings.

But theres usually some sort of a leak somewhere, but this seems to have caught the whole footballing world by surprise. No muppets on twitter even seen it comin

Eh? He's been linked with us for a while now.

I imagine that a fee was agreed with ourselves and Liverpool a while ago and the sticking point was a payment due to the player. Upon officially requesting a transfer Meireles waived his right to that payment and the transfer was done within the hour.

Do you want to get Adam's tackling stats out for us so far or shall I look? I bet its over half of 44 already.

Liverpool selling Meireles is utter mind bogling.

He settles into English Football, after a difficult 7 months or so. Goes on to be one of there key players towards the end of the season.

Then they sign Henderson (who's alot worse) and Adam (big fish small pond?) to take over from him. I just don't get it.

QPR will be interesting after their signings, the new owner has been great so far with the signings of Barton and SWP.

Spurs defence looks pretty poor though Glaston.
True up to a point.

But it looks a lot better with a proper (and fit) DM playing in front of them ... which we've lacked in our 1st two league games because both Sandro and Palacios were injured and Huddlestone (who is not really a DM anyhow) has been only half-fit.

Hopefully things will improve with Parker signed and Sandro only a week or so from being back in training.

That's not the point. Tackling is far from the main attribute of Meireles. Point was that neither is that theirs. With the way the team pressures the opponent you don't need to be a very good tackler to win the ball.

You can have a look, I don't really give a feck. In my opinion Meireles>>Adam regardless of who tackles more.

Fair enough. Hadnt been aware you's were after him tbh

I personally think Arsenal did good business considering it was the last day and all.

I still fancy Arsenal for 4th place finish.

Disappointed we didn't sell PIG. Also thought a Premier League loan for Kiko would've done a world of good.

Could Mereiles leaving be down to the fact he was a Hodgson signing and not Kennys. It wouldn't suprise me

Poor Everton, the striker they signed was on trial at Leicester, who seemingly will spend silly money on anyone, and they didn't want him.

What would you have said if we bought Benayoun back? Just out of interest? Would we have suddenly been elevated to 4th place contenders?

(Remember we didn't lose 8-2 to you)

Stoke fans singing "we sign who we want, we're stoke city, we sign who we want" and they sign Peter Crouch out of all players?

Wonder what Mereiles' move means for Modric's prospects of a move to Chelsea? Particularly if he has a good start. I can definately see him contributing more goals from midfield and he already has struck up an understanding with Torres from his LFC days... The more I think about it, the more I think its a good deal for the Chavs.
