Transfer Deadline Day

highlight of the night for me that scary kid at stoke what a fckin kisser he had...his eyes were all over the shop pointing in opposite directions at the same time.

He had a great field of vision to be fair.

Stoke will give European teams a tough time at Britannia.

I see Liverpool have released Degen.

Dalglish has lost it.

drenthe has no expression. :o

Interesting Sneijder quotes today. Even Howard bloody Nurse will agree that we were in for him now

And why is Sneijder a topic that can't be discussed?

Not arguing with Artetas decision there. Just that normally when you move to a supposedly bigger club, you would expect a wage rise. Says a lot about Arsenal that players have to consider taking a pay cut to join them from the likes of Everton.

Also says a lot about Arteta's commitment though. When you compare that attitude to that of a certain Frenchman and a certain Dutchman who were both chasing a minimum salary probably three times as much as what Arteta is on just to contemplate coming to the reigning champions of England it makes you feel Arsenal have got a good deal. Unlike the likes of Arshavin and Rosicky who showed us their backs on Sunday Arteta is likely to be well up for it every game and desperate to make this move work for him. That attitude will do a lot for Arsenal and its something you cannot buy.

You're right about that. A CL club that stinges that much is very rare. But if at any time it made sense it was this one. This is Arteta's one chance at a big club and possibly at CL football year in year out.

If it remained a Sneijder topic then no issues. However, it just became an extended general forum.

Sneijder

So yes, I'm sure there will be a new Sneijder thread next summer

He can piss off, the greedy feck.

I'd accept that sort of thing from the likes of Messi or Iniesta because they're proven, world class players. Sneijder hasn't done it for long enough or often enough to hold us to ransom, without even mentioning whether he'd fit into the team.

There's a bond between us and Sneijder now. A bond manifested in the amount of love and attention by us on this board over the Summer, and his heartfelt tweets at the close of the window. And most importantly, a bond which cannot be instantly broken, no matter what the agents, club officials and forum mods try and do to stop the affair. Love will find a way

In all seriousness though, it was quite nice of him to tweet about the United fans. He didn't need to do that.

I think he's just hedging his bets, mate, as he's done all along. I think he anticipates United coming in for him again, but I believe he'll be disappointed in that.

Bobby Charlton was speaking at a lunch event in the City yesterday, for bankers and lawyers. I was there.

Among other things, he said United and Inter had agreed a fee for Sneijder and made a late attempt to agree terms on transfer deadline day.

He said the sticking point in the end was that he'd agree terms, and then add another one. The straw that broke the camel's back was his insisting that United buy his house in Milan.

Bobby was none too impressed with his greed. Gave other examples, too (United had to agree to flying him in a private jet to conduct medical "so he could be back in Amsterdam the same night"). Etc, etc.

From someone on RI.

I've always said we should be investing in property in the Milan area. Can't be arsed to do a search to prove it.

Seems perfectly reasonable that Bobby Charlton would repeat that kind of stuff at a lunch appearance. I see no reason to doubt the validity of that story.

Too sophisticated for Sir Bob... 'If he hears that Manchester United want him, he'll wet himself to sign'.

The Sunday Mirror are reporting the same story about Sneijder with regard to the private jets and stuff :

Wesley Sneijder Manchester United move could happen in January says Inter Milan star - Transfer News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Watching his performance last night, I think buying the house and flying him over would have been worth it.

Anyway he was greedy and it's his loss and he'll realize that once he plays in the average Inter side.

PS: The articles states that "Mancini did not want to link up again with Sneijder".

When was the first time they linked up? Didn't Jose buy Sneijder at Inter?

Sounds like the usual damage-control stuff City come out with when players snub them, mate.

Sneijder interview :

Q. There it is, Manchester United...

WS : "I don't want to talk about this story. I am happy to have stayed because I have never thought of leaving. When we won the Italian Cup I went on vacation afterwards and in my mind I only thought about going back to training camp in Pinzolo. But the club called my agent and said that they needed the money and wanted to sell. So I talked with Manchester United, everybody knew about it. Then came the deal for Eto'o and things just changed."

It was a long and strange summer: you have always stayed calm?

WS: "Yes because I knew that I wanted to do. If I'm at Inter, I'll think about Inter. If I go somewhere else, my life will change. I have always found my name on the transfer market and I am accustomed to it."

Will you stay at Inter until the end of your career?

WS: "Who can say... I have a contract until 2015 and I would like to respect it but it does not depend on me alone. To me, like I have said, I like everything in Milan from the life to the fans. And I also want to keep winning."
