Barkley changing his mind during his medical, that is some stunt.

At this stage in the window it's likely the agent was negotiating personal terms as the medical was happening. Deals often break down due to personal terms not being agreed, just so happens that he was having a medical at the same time.

Leicester have done so moving and shaking. I agree with those pressing for the window to shut before the first game of the season, all clubs and opponents should know who they've got and what they're up against before the competition begins.

Get it sorted over summer or wait util January.

It'll only work if it's a UEFA or FIFA-wide window, otherwise you're still at risk of having players leave, just you're in no position to replace them.

It has turned out to be a rather disappointing deadline day. No Lemar transfer, no Alexis, no Coutinho, no Mahrez.

Sky are saying literally everything was agreed, including personal terms. It sounds like he was partway through his medical and before putting pen to paper on a contract, just upped and left because he'd changed his mind.

That's what Sky is saying is it? How sensational.

Well I may have embellished the "just upped and left" bit but even the BBC have quotes from Everton's majority stakeholder that fee and personal terms had been agreed and he just changed his mind during the medical.

It is always disappointing, & only hyped up by Sky. It will be interesting how the players who wanted to leave react now it has ended.

Well it is a World Cup year so...I think they'll be fine in terms of re-motivating themselves.

Drinkwater to Chelsea is probably the only notable one that will happen.

Apart from coutinho staying is was nearly a perfect transfer window for me anyway

Delighted how it turned out

Or spend 4 months phoning it in and push for a move in January. Coutinho might have no choice but to play if he wants to get in the Brazil squad, but even then he might just make a push for a move when the window re-opens in the winter, especially if Barca haven't signed anyone else in his place.

Sanchez is a) Chile's best player, and b) near the end of his contract, so his national team place is fairly safe anyway, and Arsenal are likely to be happy to cash in.

Deadline day hasn't been the same since they banned fans from standing behind the reporters at stadiums & training grounds. It takes away a very fun element and is as boring now as watching the news on an endless loop.

A very good day for us without doing anything.

Arsenal and Chelsea made a hash of things, Liverpool didn't strengthen their defence and City missed out on a game changer.

True arranging that kind of cooperation would be tough. I just wish there wasn't this farce of wantaway players stinking out their clubs for the first three games (or occasionally starting key games if you're Arsenal) then moving on. I've laughed as much as the next non-Arsenal supporter but it's pathetic in all honestly.

Not a bad deadline day at all, very little of note going on with us or our rivals. The only player I liked the look of was Aurier but he's got a lot to prove mentality wise.

This time four years ago:
"Fellaini...who else? .....nobody....WTF"

We're in much better times again....

Real Madrid are also making the classic mistake of not improving key positions after a succesful season. Having Mayoral as their striker backup is going to bite them back.

I'm not really that bothered about Coutinho. Liverpool had a very good attack without him and have shown that they're more than capable of scoring plenty without him. Their problem last season was keeping them out at the other end, and they've done absolutely nothing to resolve that.

As I see it, United probably could have benefited from either a quality full-back/wing-back/winger but for the most part have strengthened in all of the areas that needed strengthening.

City have had a decent-ish window, but as with Liverpool, have added to an already strong attack without really addressing the defensive frailties that cost them last season.

Chelsea managed to piss off their star player, sell an important member of their team to a direct rival, and have spent the window getting rejected by players left, right and centre.

Spurs have remained largely the same. No signings or departures that are particularly noteworthy as far as I'm concerned.

Arsenal have had a laughably bad window. Sanchez buggering off to Paris would have been a laugh but they've not really strengthened, and look utterly abject and without any spirit whatsoever.

Liverpool still have a shite defence, still have little strength in depth, but will be good for dishing out the odd battering across the season to keep the fans happy. Unfortunately for them they've got an extra set of fixtures to contend with from last season, and unless Klopp can do something he's shown absolutely no ability to do in his entire managerial career, then I don't expect them to be much of a threat.

For not being in the panic overpay group this time around, it was a fun end to the window for United. Pretty much everything went our way with respect to our rivals failures.

Only thing I can't quite decide on is if I'm happy or not that Countiho won't move. Benefits in both outcomes. Overall though, as much as I would have revelled in Liverpool being forced to sell their best player, Coutinho is a good but not great player. I'm not sure their attack "needs" him that much and (big if here), IF Liverpool would have spent the funds accordingly to strengthen their weak areas, ultimately would have made them a more dangerous team. I just don't see them as a large threat right now, they haven't done enough, although I will admit, still early days in this season.

Exactly. As a United fan, this went about as well as it could have gone. And frankly, watching deals collapse is just as exciting as watching deals getting done. ie mildly interesting.

Great day. Arsenal with an unhappy Sánchez, City with unhappy forwards that saw how they are the football equivalent of diapers, Chelsea a shambles.

Love it and love the fact we just sat it out, that can only be good for the squad (and no, they know complacency isn't an option with José).

Still don't, and will never understand why all these clubs want to wait till now to get a move on. I mean hey, it worked out great for United, all the other clubs stumbling over themselves. But still, you've had 2 months, and now you've just realised that you want player X. It's funny.

So what's the chances of Drinkwater deal being fecked up?

That would be hilarious.

Any ideas if anyone else went out on loan today? There was talk of McTominay and Tuanzebe.

My city fan mate said Tuanzebe was coming in on loan (to Hull). Not sure if that went through or not. I don't take much notice tbh.

Yea good day. Plus, Jose is patiently waiting for Griez's deal in Jan/summer :D.

They could play 4-3-1-2 with Benzema/Ronaldo/Bale as the front 2 if needed. Isco has been fantastic in the AM free role. They have done that recently. With their world class quality, they still have a good 3-4 years ahead of them and it's hard to replace this quality even if they are declining. Well Mbappe deal collapsed of course. They tried.

Their squad is still close to perfect now, and easily top 3 in the world now.

So all in all, wait and see approach seems like a smart choice in this hyper inflated market.

I hope all of you that are sure Griezmann is signing for us don't commit muppet-cide when he goes to PSG next summer.

I would tend to agree but I think since Madrid has Ascencio and Vazquez, they can just play Ronaldo up top should Benzema not be fit. If all goes well health wise I think they will be fine but it would have been prudent to be more assertive in getting a back up striker.
