Top 4 race 2016/17

Depending on what we do at Everton you could be 9 points clear on Monday night. I've also read today that no team has failed to win the league with 40 points after 16 games.

You're looking good right now.
I just saw a tweet yesterday that Chelsea have gone on to win it each time we've been top at Christmas.

having both Sanchez and Alexis would surely see them winning this game :smirk:
Indeed!

Whatever happens tomorrow, we're at most four points off fourth. Getting nice little run going. Win against Sunderland and Middlesbrough at home and I think we should close that gap further. Not bad considering a few weeks ago it felt like we couldn't buy a win in the league (Swansea game aside). Think Zlatan finding form again and us sticking with a good, core group of players - De Gea, Jones, Rojo, Carrick, Pogba, Herrera, Zlatan featuring in all three league wins - has helped. Credit to Jose and the players.

With nine days of rest there's no reason (barring injuries) that those seven shouldn't start against Sunderland.

3 wins in a row in the league. I expect an absolute minimum of 7 points from our next three. Should get into the top 4 just after the start of the new year and hopefully remain there.

4 points off 4th is the worst we can be come Monday morning.
Win our next two before City play Liverpool and it really tightens up

Still don't think 7 in our next three will get us in top 4. But, we'll be very close.

We're slowly creeping back. Kinda annoying because we've been very good for a while but had some very unlucky results.

The key for us now is staying injury free, especially our midfield and zlatan. We've proved we have depth in defense but I don't think anyone can come in and replace Carrick, Herrera or Pogba.

Win our next two at home (and we really, really should) and that puts us on 36 points at the midpoint of the league season. How many needed to clinch a top four place this season?

Shouldn't City be 6 points ahead of us if they beat Arsenal?

League looks so much better now, let's hope City/Arsenal and Liverpool all drop points.

It's a five horse race for three Champions League places. I'm going to go ahead and assume that Chelsea will be in the top four come the end of the season, but the other three spots are open to whoever wants them. Even Arsenal are at risk of missing out.

Let's just hope you and City are the ones to miss out.

Even Arsenal? What's so special about them? I think you have a bigger chance than them.

Always said this during the gloom time, Jose will take his time to figure out his best 11 and United will be competent again before the second half of season.

Massive, massive win today. Win our next two against Sunderland and Boro and we'll be right back in the mix IMO. Will be an interesting Christmas period for sure, with City v Arsenal and the Merseyside derby coming up in the next couple of days.

I'm hoping our lack of European football gives us an edge over the rest. I expect City to be out of the top four by January.

I only said it like that because Wenger always gets top four. It seems like they're a sure thing regardless of who they have to battle it out with.

City-Arsenal and City-Liverpool games still left in this half of the season between top 6, so, provided we do our bit, come new year, we could be well in it again.

3 points behind City who play Arsenal and 4 points behind Liverpool who play Everton. If we win our next two games we will have real momentum and confidence and I am convinced that we can beat any team at OT with a fully fit squad. I'm quietly confident! :D

Where are the people that said top 4 was impossible?
It was all quite doom and gloom just a couple of weeks ago! Amazing how a few wins (coupled with competitors dropping points) can do for you.

I have to say, fair play to you lot. Stringing together 3 wins during this period has quickly placed you firmly back into the title race. Tomorrow's game between Arsenal-City is a win-win type of game for United irregardless of the result.

I thought Zlatan was finished but he's showing why I picked him as the best #9 in the League before the season started.

Personally, think it's two spaces up for grabs. You guys and Chelsea have the other two locked up.

I'll be disappointed with 7 tbh. West Ham away looks our toughest but they are a poor side and their new stadium is no Upton Park.
Obviously dangerous to count chickens and all that but we really need the maximum points in these games.

How the mighty have fallen - getting excited about Top 4.

A few years ago, every was doing the maths (with Essien's calculator) on Top of the table.

How I miss Fergie!

I don't know why people keep mentioning Everton like they've got a chance of getting anything vs Liverpool. Arsenal City is a good game because someone drops poins.

This is the reality my friend.

It's still difficult, you've had your easier half of the season and have City, Arsenal, Spurs, Southampton, Leicester, West Ham, Stoke away in the second half of the season while being probably 4 points or more off the pace coming into it.

Not impossible though and the first 1/3 of the season isn't enough time to write a team off.

Yes, it will be difficult but I was just referring to the ones that said 4th was impossible just 1-2 weeks ago.

Good to be able to focus on just the league without the Europa League distraction and it shows with our performances where we are controlling the game more rather than getting tired at the end and allowing opposition teams back in to the game.

I want us to do well in the Europa League don't get me wrong but at the end of the day its a cup competition and we could easily see ourselves fall at the last hurdle like Liverpool and by that time we have dropped one too many points in the league to get into the Top 4

Sorry, but what you said makes no sense. This run of games had nothing with not playing Europa League. After match with Zorya we had Tottenham over the weekend, Palace as mid week game and WBA today. Three games in 6 days.

Still feel we've given ourselves too much to do and regardless of how well we play we're relying on two teams to pretty much fall away (Spurs who are above us at the moment and then one of the teams actually in the top 4)
