Top 4 race 2016/17

Hard to call. My expectation from Sun, Bou and WH were 9 points. We got 4. I predict 6-8 but that's meaningless as to what will happen in reality.
Ok lets say 9 for arguments sake, and lets say United win their next 4. That would put us 4 points off yous, and yet you come in here and thank us for beating Spurs, which by the does totally dismiss any threat you consider from United. Oh I do hope that comes back and bites you in the arse.

You missed what I posted clearly. "I said....lets say United have agood Xmas and go on a run of games". Ok, now you have that hypothetical situation in your head (and it could very happen considering how we have been playing), remake your judgement on no one in the top 4 dropping too many points for United to catch them.

That's all hypothetical. Let's say United win every single game till end of the season, they will end up being champions. It can happen, but United's poor form and terrible goal-scoring makes it a very unreasonable scenario. United can have a good run, no doubt, but so can the other top 4 teams. I cannot see City under Pep plummet any further (and I speak as someone who prefers United over City).

I might be wrong and if I am I will accept it when the time comes.

But if Spurs best you then they'd easily overtake us. So yes thanks.

So in the last 8 days, we've made up 4 points on City, 3 on Liverpool and 1 on Spurs.

We need another couple weekends like this.

All we do in this thread (top4 race) is speak hypothetically. You too, so don't give me that. You can't come in here and say blah blah blah, United won't get top four because of X, without being hypothetical.

Very well done. You can do simple arithmetic.

I just did some calculations and the equation works both ways. A draw or defeat for a team above us, coupled with a United win leaves us just 4 or 3 points behind.

Crazy isn't it this world of numbers and possibilities?

I was merely responding to what-if scenarios.

Insane post.
Liverpool have just lost and drawn, which is hardly a calamitous run, yet it's opened that door up to us a little.

City or Liverpool could quite easily not win for a couple of games while we do, and then it's all square,

When top 4 was getting 9/10 points away, THAT was time it looked over, but now, it's re-opened.

And unless I've missed something, we did exactly that 1-0 today, and I wouldn't call it getting away, could easily have been a 3-0 job. As could at least 3 of the last 4 homes. With the game against you probably should have being a 1 or 2-0 job

It could have been 4-0 or whatever, but it wasn't. United's terrible goal-scoring form backs up my point. Every team can say could-have, would-have, should-have. The season is halfway done and some United fans are still stuck in hypothetical scenarios about their striking prowess.

I literally said ''I might be wrong'' at the end of my post, what more do you want?

My 5 post limit for the day is done. :(

Nothing really, I just wanted you to acknowledge that City have two hard games coming up in their next 4 fixtures which they could lose, where as we had very winnable ones. If you acknowledged that it would have pished all over your original statement wouldn't it?

Back in it.

Now for the love of god string together a few wins.

You've already done that haven't you? Summit had just given you four straight wins in a row so it's past tense. Hope that doesn't come back to bite him on the arse with arse hole wummers like Dumbstar around.:nervous:

I gave you 9 points out of 12 which is generous imo.

Fixtures for top 6 over the next five games. Shame Everton are in such bad form.
Chelsea will probably get 3 wins from that. Can see them dropping points to Palace (as they are on a really long run of wins and that's a potential slip up game, even though they've been bad). Plus the tottenham game being away. My guess is they get 10-11 points from the 5, so 47-48 points.

Arsenal can easily feck up their next 2 away games, and if that happens, then they might easily go on a slump. I would guess they'll get 8 or 9 points though from that. 42 or 43 points.

Liverpool will probably bounce back against Boro, but have 2 very tough games with everton away and city at home. My guess is anywhere from 10-13 points. So 41-44 points.

City have 3 easy wins, 2 tough games. 10 points is my guess. 40 points.

Spurs with 2 easy wins, 2 tough away games, then chelsea at home. Probably they'll win/lose/draw one of each the away games plus the chelsea game. So that's 10 points, 37 total.

United have 3 possibly tricky away games. Home games should be easy. Can see us dropping in one of them, but with us possibly about to go on a good run, I would guess that we'll draw against West Ham but beat palace and brom. 13 points is what I'm guessing from this block of 5. 37 total.

Right after the international break though, Chelsea go away to leicester, City go away to Everton, Arsenal are away to swansea (should be a win but you never know), while we play home against Liverpool. Spurs the only ones with an easyish game, home to west brom. So if we beat Liverpool, plus the above guesses are relatively accurate, we could if things go our way go level on points with City, everton, and be within a couple points of liverpool/arsenal. It's only really chelsea who are looking very hard to stop.

Anyway, I don't think we'll end in the top 4. We need to go on a nice long run of wins which I'm not sure we can do, and even if we do, we have to keep title challenge form in the second half of the season, where we'll have latter stages of Europa league plus other cups to deal with. So while we might claw the gap down over the next 2 months, it'll open up a bit again after that. There is no chance of the title, very slim chance for top 4, considering Arsenal are more resilient this season, whlie Liverpool and Chelsea only have the league to deal with so they will be consistent, while Man City will have enough to finish ahead of us. As long as we finish ahead of Spurs I'll be happy enough, with the cups being more important.

Roughly the same for all (so no change to the league standings) except Chelsea ... it's difficult to see any of those slowing them down. It will take a 'shock' result to end their run. Maybe Sunderland .. battered for 90 mins before Defoe sneaks a winner in injury time.

Us winning and Spurs, City and Liverpool all dropping points couldn't have happened at a better time.

For the first time in ages the mid-week games are PL games so hopefully there is still a hangover from this weekend. Five PL games in nineteen days, essentially a straight PL shoot-out at a time when morale can only improve after today's win. Plus the teams above us have lost the edge they had with us having to play on Thursdays.

Reasons to be optimistic, but it all falls flat on its face if we drop points at Palace.

We now have a run of games where up until City on the 25th of Feb the only decent team we will face is Liverpool. Hopefully we can start making up some ground.

That's true, but I'd say we're very close to being a very effective team indeed.

There's been a lot of negativity, but the past shows that teams with momentum can make big surges at the right time.
It could be that this run now IS the right time.

Your dispatching Borough, I know they are not great but they always been one of our bogey teams.

No way in fecking hell are Liverpool getting 13 points from them 5 fixtures. Have you seen them defend lately?

If we can win our next four, which is tempered by the feeling that I don't think we will, then we'll be in the top 4 imo, or if not just outside on goal difference/one point.

This is our chance to close in now, with Liverpool and City looking vulnerable, just a shame Miki will miss the hardest two fixtures we have out of the four.

We're back. Its on. This is our year. Top 4 here we come.

Or something like that.

IMO you can count on Chelsea, Arsenal and City definitely getting top 4. I think Liverpool, Spurs and United will battle it out for the remaining spot in top 4.

I'm not banking on City for top four. I think you'll be within three points of them after the next few rounds of fixtures. For me Chelsea and Arsenal should be in there with the other spots up for grabs. I do expect us to be in there come the end of the season though.

I think Liverpool will get top 4 due to not being in Europe. If they were then I'd bet on them falling apart towards the end of the season with the high energy style they play, and the fact they haven't got great depth to rotate key players.

City has the necessary offensive quality to scrape through just like they did last season. Besides, they have Guardiola as coach. I really don't think City will lose out on top 4.

Hold on What?!? The only reason you've actually won two games in a row and he's out for two games? Couldn't make this up.

I don't think Guardiola's shows than he has a grasp on the Premier League yet. They've been struggling defensively more than anyone else in the top six is and have a tough month coming up. I think they're in serious danger of missing out.

They might do but their defense is shocking, worse than last year. Which is a big issue for them. Their form has nosedived and they have 12 points in the last 9 games. In this first half of the season they still have Arsenal (h) and Liverpool (a) to play.

I don't think we (Spurs) are playing well enough to seriously challenge for top 4 come May. A lot would have to change between now and then for us to be in the mix.

Arsenal would be 47 on your count there.

I'd take those results right now no question.

It is possible for us to get in top 4. We just need to kill off the games. 6 points in this stage is doable especially if we can beat some of them above us.

Heads up, today is better than yesterday, just keep targeting spot 4 and don't look back (in anger, ehehe)

No offence, but that has been the mantra of United fans in every thread about Arsenal as well.

As for the thread, I can't see United coming 4th. 5th at best, I can't see the top four teams at present going on a massive calamitous run. United need to score a lot of goals, you can't get away with 1-0 anymore. Hence your recent drawn games.
Being sensible it's only December and many teams can turn their season round with a good window in Jan. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see utd and city 4th and 5th. As for the calamitous runs the only team in top 4 I don't see losing a game this month is Chelsea they've such a kind fixture list. whereas arsenal got city, who also have Liverpool. lot of pts to be dropped among the top 4 though yeh

Either City or Arsenal likely to be dragged back into this battle by Sunday.
Hopefully, we can win our next two.
