Top 4 race 2016/17

Not sure if that was a good result for us or not

Today's results were the worst output possible from a United perspective. Spurs won, for starters, and City, the team looking less likely to make it CL places of the two, won over Arsenal who always make it to top 4. A Liverpool victory tomorrow will make things difficult for us again.

I really hope Everton turn up tomorrow.

There isn't much between City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and United. Chelsea is the only team that has impressed me so far overall. Conte has motivated them really well. They look hungry.

Not really sure what to make of that result for us.

Well, 5 days ago we were 10 behind Arsenal and now are only 4 behind them.

Great result imo. City v Liverpool in a few games time that gives us the chance to cut the gap even further, then, if all goes well, drive it home v Liverpool at OT.

2nd best result after a draw IMO. Arsenal have a couple of "easy" home games coming up, with a decent looking fixture list until February as well. City have to go to Liverpool soon.

Shame about the Spurs win, but I think we'll get past them soon enough (Southampton, Watford and Chelsea coming up for them). If Everton get something off Liverpool this will be an excellent weekend for us, especially looking at the fixture list ahead.

Arsenal always making the top 4 before doesn't guarantee them doing it this season.

so it is good.

Mourinho did say that over the Holliday period a number of the teams above us will be playing each other.

We need to keep winning our matches and we will catch up to these teams when we meet Liverpool Jan 15th.

Agreed, don't think we should look too much at other teams results and just keep winning ourselves and naturally others will drop points.

On reflection i think its a good result for us. We're only 4 points behind the team in fourth and 6 behind 2nd/3rd.

The tighter the spaces between 2-6 the better it is for us

Stop torturing yourselves with hope. You will not make top four.

Ok I'll stop watching football for the rest of the season because Ruffian, middle aged man from Liverpool, is the new Nostradamus aka Kevin.

I'd bet my house on us getting top 4. We are so much bether than Spurs and Arsenal I can't see either of them making top 4.

Of course the league table always lies ... as it did last season I suppose.

Said a few weeks back I fully expected United to close the gap in the next two months, already happening. Only 6 points from 2nd. Expect it to be even closer in the next few games.

On reflection yes other than a draw City winning today was the best result for us. At the start of the season I said this would be the year Arsenal missed out on top 4 and I still believe they're more likely to miss out than City (this still have to go to Chelsea and Liverpool as well)

Wumming isn't very wise, especially as a Liverpool fan on here.

I am not 'wumming' - a very ugly word, if I may say, I am merely concerned for your well being. As a Liverpool fan I know very well the gut wrenching disappointment of reaching beyond one's grasp.

We weren't better last season, but since that time we signed best players from Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1, a brilliant CB prospect and Jose Mourinho.

Would you say that you are better than Liverpool at the moment because of the table positioning last season?

You should be concerned about yourself in the first place then? Or are you already used to the constant disappointment?

If you keep up posts like that you can apply that same thought process to becoming a full member.

No, we aren't currently better than Liverpool, but then that's what the table shows .... which is precisely my point.

You can spend all the money you like - and god knows you've spent vast sums in recent years - but it guarantees nothing.

I do remember your post saying that.

Not sure we can definitely say it about Arsenal, as before these 2 defeats, which you have to remember were in 2 tough aways, they've been smashing teams, which we can claim to have been doing, but when they are only draws it's hard to argue!

Am very confident of finishing ahead of Tottenham, but then that is no boast! And that alone won't even secure top 4.

City and Chelsea surely can't drop out. Arsenal never do, so we're relying on Liverpool running out of steam

Yeah there's only the runaway league leaders in that.
Wow, shows what 2 wins in a row can do for you eh
They will get a hammering against Chelsea. Hazard and Costa will actually tear their defense which has looked very shaky of late

Tottenham have been very consistent this season and last. Posters have no right to be so snobby about them.
