Top 4 Race 19/20 | duffer: "We [Chelsea] are getting 3rd. Despite what the lunatics in here think, Man United are not all that."

Wondering why we were so terrible towards the end of last season and lost 4th place when we could have easily made it to TOP-4 based on the form until Paris match

Think that has been covered quite a lot of times? Fitness.

We played in a very different way under Mou compared to how Ole wants us to play.

Mou didn't even allow GPS-trackers et. al when training, so we didn't have proper records either of what shape the players were in when Ole took over.

Coupled with some unmotivated players who probably didn't help lift the spirits when the going got tough, and you can understand why Ole had to clear out certain personalities and instill a stricter training regime once pre-season rolled around.

We are in a much different position this year, and I have faith we'll finish top 4 without much worry in these last matches, just have to focus on ourselves.

I literally only found out this morning that Wolves drew yesterday... I turned it off after 94 minutes and just assumed the won.

Its because United play Leicester on the last day, and leicester have tough fixtures so odds are that Chelsea will probably win 1 of their last 2 and United and Leicester won't get the perfect scenario to knock out Chelsea. More so because Leicester is in free fall.

If us and Leicester win our next two games and Chelsea lose to Liverpool, couldn't us and Leicester draw on the last day to guarantee us both Champions League? Or is my math wrong...

I think Wolves blew it for good last night. They can only get 62 Points now and I highly doubt Leicester & ourselves get less than 3 Points from the final three games. Maybe one of us will but that would still only see them in fifth. I think Chelsea can get away with only one more point being required if Leicester doesn't win tonight (and United of course). I think after this evening, Leicester will be on 60 and United on 62. I will be surprised if Mourinho doesn't do a job on Leicester and beat them or at least avoid defeat in the following game. If United beat Palace & West Ham, that is possible to be enough.

Going to be a fun watch for tonight's games! Hopefully Sheffield United can keep up their current form as they go above both Spurs & Wolves with a win tonight! Will be huge for them.

Revised Prediction Top 10:

4.Chelsea65
5.Leicester62

Would also depend on Chelsea not getting a point out of Wolves on the final day when matches are played at the same time.

Imagine United - Leicester on the final day 0-0 at 85mins cause Wolves scored two early. Then Chelsea comes back with 2 in 2mins.

Then suddenly the team of either United or Leicester with the lowest GD suddenly needs to win.

Edit: nvm, screwed up my math based on earlier scenarios. Didn't check it now.

Yes, if Chelsea don't get a point out of Liverpool and both United and Leicester win their next two, we would both qualify with a draw.

Unlikely it will go that way though!

If Sheffield wins today, they will also come into an equation, albeit with an outside chance only (they will need Chelsea to lose 2 out of 2, win 3/3 themselves and make up 10 GD in the interim. Still theoretically possible.

Not if they lose to Liverpool?

They'll be on 63 points going into the last day and we'll both be on 65.

Realistically I think Leicester will get 4 points (win today / draw vs Spurs), we'll get 6 and Chelsea will lose to Liverpool.

That'll mean we have 65, Leicester and Chelsea 63...everything to play for.

That last minute equaliser the other night was such a fecking spanner.

Today is a huge day for Leicester. If they drop points and we win, then they have to go to spurs and win. A team already low on confidence and feeling like they've blown it.. Not an easy task.

I do not know why everyone is so nervous around here. Palace are literally the best team, after Norwich, Utd could've asked to play. They went to the beach about three weeks ago and haven't returned.

As for the Dippers, they will not throw in the towel against Chelsea. They lift the title that day, no way are they going to want to do that after being beaten. At the very best Chelsea will get a point but that shouldn't really bother Utd due to the goal difference. Only a win for Chelsea causes Utd issues.

As for Leicester, their heads have gone and they have to finish with three teams in the top 6. If they get even 4 points I would be amazed.

People around here need to get a bit of a grip. Utd have easily been the most inform team and the Soton game was just a blip. Further, both Chelsea and Leicester actually have more difficult games than Utd. Utd will finish 3rd and in two weeks everyone on here will be wondering why they were so worried.

Every reason to be cautious, we could be missing Shaw and Williams possibly along with Greenwood.

Added to that's in our 5 of our last away games vs Palace its needed very late winners on 4 occasions. It's not like its been a walk in the park for us vs Palace in recent years.

Yeah, that's why I think they'll win today.

If we assume we're winning both games and Chelsea are losing their next one, it would actually be better for us if Leicester won both games, instead of losing one and winning one! All ifs and buts...but its intriguing.

Can totally see Maguire and Lindelöf passing it between themselves for the last 20 minutes of that game whilst Vardy stands around with a shit eating grin.

Yeah, if Chelsea lose to the Dippers and Utd and Leicester win their two games, I fully expect the Utd v Leicester game to be akin to the Disgrace of Gijón.

And I'd love every second! (bet you'd find complaining in the match day thread though...)

Apples and oranges. Palace have been in the deck chairs topping their tan up since three weeks ago. The only game they have given anyone was Chelsea and that was largely due to their midget GK allowing a goal from a shot that went straight down the middle of his goal. Further, whilst they have given Utd games, they haven't actually got that good of a record. For me, this has 3-0/3-1 Utd written all over it with the game being done and dusted by the 60th minute. Palace really do not care anymore and are prepping for next season. Further, Cahill is a much bigger loss for them than one of Shaw/Williams for Utd.

Greenwood is injured, if you want to talk about 'big losses'.

Yeah, similar situation to why people were wanting Wolves to win yesterday.

And you're also not allowed to assume we're going to beat Palace and West Ham either.. We've lost 28 games in a row and we have no good players, or so some on here would have you believe.

The premier league isn't easy though, and I think the current TV rights deal means that all teams get roughly £100m each year from the Premier League itself, so there's big big money and big investment into every team.

Even odds, bookies have United at 50% win, 28% draw and 22% Palace win, as much as it's deemed an 'easy fixture because its palace and they are on holiday' you are talking about elite athletes. 11 players on a pitch vs 11.

Palace are also at home, they can still beat United, get a point, so it's not as easy as just getting off the coach, scoring a few goals and going back on the M6/M40.

United need to be ready to win that game like its a Cup final, and there's zero room for error in these games.

I hope unlike against Southampton and Villa / Bournemouth, they don't let opposition teams have 25 minutes of open possession before they decide to actually attack.

On paper we should be trouncing all 3 teams.

Palace though will play like men possessed tonight. Have a feeling this is going to be a really tough game. West Ham have scuppered us a few times. They've denied us a League Title & CL qualification. Moyes still holds a grudge against us & will be desperate for us to fail. I would'nt be at all confident going to Leicester knowing we had to win to get a CL place.

Absolutely bricking it. Last season when we messed up it was quite obvious, we were playing so bad you could see it coming a mile off. This time we're looking good, we've been playing with confidence and you can almost smell CL qualification, so I oddly feel much worse? It's the hope and belief that kills.

I can't get how it is just between us and Leicester. If we win tonight we will be 2 points from Chelsea with a better goal difference. They cannot afford to slip. The third place is on.

It was infuriating to draw as we did but it was not realistic to win every match, we are still a young team in transition.

We were too far behind before restart to expect something better honnestly. We have done well so far. And Southampton was our hardest fixture left in my opinion if you look at form.

It is still in our hands. That is what matters now. If the Leicester match is a season definer it will be nervy !

We are so close from each others that anything can happen with 3 games left, it's crazy !
It's because we play Leicester so Chelsea are guaranteed one rival dropping points there.

We'd pretty much have it in the bag if they hadn't equalised. Hopefully it doesn't matter in the end

It's anyone's game. No one can really be that confident one way or the other. After tonight there will be likely be more clarity on the situation.
Anything can happen from here but let's say Chelsea win one of their last 2. Both us and Leicester would have to get 4 points minimum from the last two for them to miss out. And that assuming we both win the games in hand too

Chelsea will beat Liverpool.

Chelsea will beat Liverpool.
Personally don't see it. Best for us would probably be a hard faught draw. Liverpool have a lot riding on it on the day to not be at their best and I doubt our feeble defence can handle that.
And even if we somehow managed a win I doubt it'll be Liverpool rolling over to feck United. They just don't care.

I think we can dismiss this notion now. People mentioned that they they would be keen to break records such as having a perfect home record and beating City's points total and it's all ended rather feebly. I think they've just switched off and fortunately for you I think that gives you a big boost.

Absolutely. But even by the statistics you've provided, we're clear favourites to win the game because we have better players who are in better form.

The negativity surrounding us on here since Monday night would make you think that it was palace who were in the form we're in going into the game.

Yeah it is ridiculous. Palace's best player by a mile is Zaha, a AM who has 4 goals and 5 assists all season. Further, after Norwich, they have been the worst team in the league by a mile. Further, we have a good record against them so it is not like this is a team that does a number on us all the time.

If you look at this logically, this has easy win written all over it. Sure they may give us a game for 20 minutes or so but once the first goes in it will be game over.

There loss yesterday was a bit of a freak. Arsenal only had 3 shots...and Liverpool basically gave them their two goals.

You're right about the points record being lost taking a bit of motivation from them. They still have the unbeaten home record, they lift the 30yr awaited throphy in this match and wouldn't want to lose to two big rivals back to back after winning the league at a canter. They'll still be up for the game. If Chelsea gets anything from the match it won't be because Liverpool rolled over or were on holidays.

Yeah.... I'm not THAT confident

But it's nice and refreshing to see.

I’m not even thinking it’s about fecking over United, (although I’m sure it’s in the back of their mind) they just aren’t at it. Since they cliched the title they struggled to beat a terrible Villa side, got thumped by City, drew with Burnley & lost to Arsenal. Honestly I expect Chelsea to win that.

They have previous for downing tools against Chelsea to feck us over. 2010 Chelsea breezed to a 2-0 win at Anfield & Liverpool offered absolutely nothing. I’m almost certain Liverpool went into that game with the intention to lose.

Yeah, I think Chelsea will make it but I meant it is still wild open for 3rd place.

I am pretty confident if we win all our games we will be third as Chelsea will probably not win against Liverpool and Wolves.

Just hope the team won't be too nervous.

If us and Leicester win our next two games and Chelsea lose to Liverpool, couldn't us and Leicester draw on the last day to guarantee us both Champions League? Or is my math wrong...
Yup! Its just that thats the highly unlikely scenario imo.
