Top 4 Race 19/20 | duffer: "We [Chelsea] are getting 3rd. Despite what the lunatics in here think, Man United are not all that."

That would be funny. Can't see Liverpool beat Chelsea though.
Plenty of reasons why Liverpool can beat the. A, they are better as reflected by the league. Motivation wise, its trophy day for them, unbeaten home record, they won't lose back to back games, etc. I'd be surprised if Chelsea pulls off an upset.

I'd expect Chelsea's max points total to be 66 points. Reason why I don't think they'll miss out is Leicester, I don't see them beating both Sheffield and Spurs. All their absences, would be slightly surprised if they get more than 3 points between the 2 games.

There loss yesterday was a bit of a freak. Arsenal only had 3 shots...and Liverpool basically gave them their two goals.
I mean, that kinda does show that they switched off massively. They usually don't do cheap gifts like those. And their finishing was also off which can also be down to a lack of focus.

When was there last a run in this exciting, with fixtures this enticing? Sure, top 4 isn't anything major compared to a title (even a title* is decent) or a CL, but I'm tense as feck awaiting each game, the players themselves must be bricking it :D

Personally don't see it. Best for us would probably be a hard faught draw. Liverpool have a lot riding on it on the day to not be at their best and I doubt our feeble defence can handle that.
And even if we somehow managed a win I doubt it'll be Liverpool rolling over to feck United. They just don't care.
Nah they dont. One minute they were definitely beating us because of the home record, then they were definitely beating us because of the pts record and now that is not achievable, they are beating us because they lift the trophy same day.

Fact is, Liverpool's foot is off the gas and they are in fact one of the sides already on the beach. All games are dead rubbers for them, every single one since they were crowned. They do not give a shit if they lose to us.

They lift the trophy yes, but its not the same to an empty stadium, the parade will mean more and thats where the real celebration will be. Now if the grounds werent empty and they lifted it, i'd see your point

I think they can beat you because they're a significantly better team.

they are, but there is every chance we dont lose that game, too. In the same way City were also going to wipe the floor with us. Liverpool have been way off it since the restart, they couldnt care less. First title in 30 yrs sewn up, as if losing a few dead rubbers bothers them

They are beating you because they shit all over your team. That was always the case. Everything else was just white noise.

fair point, how many sides since the restart has their 11 shit over and they've lost, or really struggled. Its what happens on the day, and there is zero guarantees either of us lose. Absolutely none.

How many of the teams have they played with a funsized GK with a 50% shot to save ratio and a group of CB's that make Mangala look world class?

I actually think it's good they lost a couple of games now because Klopp will be coming down on them hard - they'll be well up for the game vs Chelsea for a few reasons (lifting the trophy, home undefeated record and now having Klopp breathing down their necks after the recent lapse in concentration. They also play a style which usually does well versus the possession heavy teams - I can see them hammering Chelsea.

These games coming around thick and fast, each one all of a sudden seems tougher with not much break inbetween

Not that I think Chelsea won't lose, but it is kind of funny to watch people shoehorn whatever narrative they need to remain fully convinced Liverpool will win the game.

Klopp will come down on them hard, so it's a good thing they lost to Arsenal, this is why they'll beat Chelsea. If Liverpool had won 3-0 last night, it's great that they've shaken off the post-title win rust, this is why they'll beat Chelsea.

I mean the over the top “your team is shit” coming from some United fans makes it quiet hard to have the civil discourse other United fans want. You'd think there are 12 games in a season not 38.

Need a big helping hand from Sheffield United

Agreed 100%, If Sheffield United win and cause Leicester to drop points and Palace lose to United it's game over I think, because United will have momentum going into the West Ham game.

I'm still expecting Leicester to beat Sheffield United, and United to draw with Palace though, and I'm expecting United to beat West Ham, but Leicester to draw with Tottenham.

If what we're hoping happens though I'd be very pleased.

If Utd do not get top three it will be their fault. The way I see things at the moment, 4 points should do it, so even if Utd lose tonight qualification should be likely still.

The way some people are going on here would make you think Utd have prime Barca, Real and Bayern for their next three games. The way I see it, Utd could hardly have hand picked an easier run in - out of form Palace with 5 losses on the spin - WHU who have been crap all season and out of form Leicester who have been dropping like a stone. If Utd needed 9 points out of 9 then maybe I could understand some nerves but it is more than likely 4 will do with the teams Chelsea and Leicester have to play and their current form.

Honestly, I see Utd getting a comfortable win tonight, they will then beat WHU fairly easily and if they need to (which I do not think they will as two wins should do it) they will beat Leicester also.

They will beat Chelsea. This is the biggest PL event that they've been dreaming about for 30 fecking years.
If i were a Chelsea fan I would hate seeing Arsenal fluke it last night

Well, that's just nonsense, for a start we still gained a point on them both with the Southampton game. Secondly, Chelsea is very capable of losing to Liverpool, Wolves, or both in which case Utd should overtake them if we win our games. I stand by what I've always said, Utd needs to do the job and win the next 3 games as then we will finish 3rd.

Yes, but now all Chelsea need is a win in one of their two games and they are in the top 4 - regardless of our results. Won't put it past them to do that. So the other spot is between us and Leicester.

In fact even if United and Leicester win both their games, and draw the final one - Chelsea will go through with one win/ one loss.

I will be really surprised if Chelsea drop out of CL spots from here.

Wrong. If that happens Utd and Leicester (if they draw) will finish above Chelsea owing to goal difference. As I have said elsewhere, Utd are nailed on for the top 4. It will take something catastrophic to not get it. For me, Utd only need one win and one draw from the next three games to finish in the CL.

But would you have said the same thing, regardless of whether Arsenal fluked a win or not? That's all I'm saying.

Okay guys. Here's a scenario.

We win our next 2 games and so do Leicester. Which means both of us would be at 65 points. Assuming Chelsea lose at Liverpool, they will be at 63 points.

Considering that both ours and Leicester's GD is quite superior to Chelsea, a draw would most certainly do it.

Shades of 'Disgrace of Gijon' from the 82' World Cup or both teams go for it?

I don't know about United, but it is inconceivable that Leicester win both their fixtures.

United Blackburn final 20 mins 2010/11 where a draw won us the league and put them clear in the relegation scrap. We were just knocking it about the back last 20 minutes.

Here’s another scenario. We win our next 2 and Leicester draw their next 2 and we can play Sir Bobby upfront behind Ole on the final day if we like. That’s the ideal scenario for me.

All teams play at same time, so no one knows what Chelsea result will be.

Wouldn't matter so long as Chelsea do not beat the Dippers. Goal difference would win the day as long as Chelsea do not win 14 - 0 or something crazy

Wilder's tricky Blades have been doing us favors left and right, if they beat Leicester today they're officially my second favorite club in the league.

Exactly. Since the restart, they've beaten Spurs, Wolves and Chelsea. If they even draw today, they'll forever be my second side.

agree, pointless turning up v liverpool and wolves looks like

Not sure it's really shoehorning - just an opinion on why they won't roll over against Chelsea. They're also a much better team and surely Liverpool are favourites.

In my mind it doesn't actually matter if they win or not, top 4 is in our hands and we should be able to get there with the squad we have.

Leicester look up for the fight.

My prediction:

Tonight: Leicester beat SU, we draw away at Palace, the caf descends into complete meltdown as we fall two points behind 4th with two to play.

In the penultimate round of games, Chelsea beat Liverpool, Leicester draw with Spurs and we beat West Ham.

The table going into the final game will be Chelsea (66), Leicester (63), United (63). Chelsea will be guaranteed top 4, but will need at least a draw vs Wolves to guarantee 3rd. We'll battle Leicester at the King Power in the decider for the final place.
