Too early to be getting worried?

If we dont sign anyone in next 4 days,we can turn to our preseason and out going players, lets be honest, there is high chance that Depay will be only signing in this transfer window and if we buy someone after 4 days mark,we gonna pay premium extra because we left it late again...thats a United way :( srsly whats with this thread

When you spend 150 million and get two starting players, I'd say that's borderline terrible.

Herrera worth every penny of it
Rojo I think justify his fee
Shaw is overprice but he is still young
Blind is ok for squad player
Di Maria has been a it disappointed but he was world class and probably need time to adapt
Falcao is a disaster but not a too costly one

So I would say we have wasted money on Falcao (loan fees around 12m?), Shaw (about 10m overprice for now), and Di Maria (around 20m less if we sell him now?) Not that much of a disaster but surely wasteful.

Mental that people now claim that Blind was an ok signing. I thought he was fantastic for 90% of the season, done his job effectively wherever he played.

His type of player can often be underrated as they don't stick out but can always be relied on to fulfil the requirements of any role they're given. That sort of player is invaluable.

Around 31 days left if we are to sign all the players we need before preseason.

Apparently he can't defend, can't run and can't pass. Despite what he showed until his knee injury.

Last 4 or 5 games for us absolutely destroyed people's memories it seems. Went from good sense of positioning, decent passing, keeping it simple, reading the game well, not being the fastest (albeit good enough to stop Sterling on the wing) to shit, shit passer, poor man's Carrick, squad player, not good enough left back, not good enough defensive midfielder. In some opinions, that is.

You know what it is like. All these names get thrown about but half the players we sign we will not even have been linked with.

I am not worried. We have signed Depay already and we are still early in the window. Nobody else has really made any signings either other than Liverpool.

No reason to panic about incoming signings as we'll definitely make a few. I think they'll be second choice ones in certain areas though as Bale definitely won't be joining.

Not worried one bit. Most the talk in the papers/media about united signings are all fabricated anyway. Just guesswork. To see things go calm and quiet is nice. Woody is the sort who enjoys a big suprise unveiling, and we all know what LVG is like. I trust in their abilities.

And I find it funny when people just see Blind as 'ok' too. He was fantastic early on in the season, adapted quick and a breath of fresh air. Mid season his link up with fellaini/young was winning games and destroying sides. Not the greatest finish to the season, but as a whole he's done very well.

Definitely too early to panic, 33 days until our first pre season match. Ideally we'd like to see at least 2 more signings before that game. Transfers are a pain staking process these days and I can see the De Gea transfer dragging out until at least August, probably right up to the deadline day.

I trust Woody well get the job done though.

It sums up our transfer business since 2009, a mix of underwhelming mediocre and waist full summers

There is no chance depay is our only signing, not when we are Going to be short in the GK area, defence and midfield is huge priorities

Nobody's said he can't do those things. Just not exceptionally well.

Again, nobody's said he's 'shit' at those things. Just that he's not great at any one area, which doesn't bode particularly well, in terms of him being more than a squad option for midfield.
I got into a lengthy discussion about Blind, and never did I or anyone else say he was crap as a footballer, or had no quality whatsoever.

The initial point regarding Blind was that people went overboard in the first place (claiming he trumped Carrick in areas where he clearly didn't, comparing him to players way above his level, and claiming that people who doubted him weren't smart enough to see 'it'), which is why now it seems like people have turned on him.

And he likely isn't a good enough defensive midfielder. That one QPR game seems to have really influenced opinions on 'that spell'.

I think we might get some sort of movement this week. Even if it is the De Gea deal finally going ahead, It might then start to move things on.

I must say though that considering LVG wanted business done early this year, Im shocked at the very little progress been made.

Most players are on their holidays still and players heavily linked to us like otemendi and Roberto firmino are still playing competitive football in the copa america. When that comes to and end I fully expect us to announce the signing of those 2. It looks odds on they'll be joining us.

As for european players then who knows, we've tied up Memphis already and the players in England (Clyne, Cech, Lloris, Kane, schneiderlain etc) could be sorted in a matter of days so there no big rush for them.

My worry is pursuing dead ends and leaving second and third choice targets until very late in the window which also can drive up their prices, Fellaini a prime example. For my inner muppet there is nothing worse than getting players after the season has already started. With Chelsea and City clearly ahead of us I don't think we can afford to start as poorly so having a full season is so important for the new additions to gel and based on LvG saying it was going to be a 'heavy summer' I really hope we do get some deals tied up ready for US tour..I think they fly out in 4 weeks?

I'm kind of the least bit worried about this transfer window. I just have a faith that even if we went into next season with the same team, Van Gaal is capable of organically generating enough improvement from within to sustain a healthy league position.

In the end I think even if we fail to land the glamor signings, we will sign some unheralded players and LvG will coach it like an underdog to produce something good, kind of like Ferguson's teams post-Ronaldo.

How are Chelsea and City clearly ahead of us? You in the know on transfers? Who have they bought ahead of us so far?

In terms of current league standings, not transfers, I know feck all about what's going on transfer wise besides all the BS on our twitter feed.

One of my biggest concerns about this transfer window was that we'd sign Falcao. So I'm very relieved that we haven't.

And while I think it's too early for this thread, I do have this this nagging doubt over van Gaal's transfer history.

Cillessen and Firminho are both the type of players I'd expect Liverpool to be in for, and while it's just paper-talk, it does nag at me slightly.

What I really want is to see us act fast, act decisively and bring in sensible signings that are READY FOR UNITED.

I've got this instinctive hunch that this is a very important window for van Gaal - I think if he has a poor start to the season and is floundering at Christmas (as could quite easily happen...) he'll be released by the club and Klopp will be brought in.

Likewise, I think if he has a similar season to this one and achieves nothing beyond CL football, he'll be replaced.

So, yeah, I just get the feeling that this is an important window for him, and for us as a club.

How?
Well Chelsea won the league by miles, and City were comfortably ahead as well!

Just for starters ....

Has the window officially open? I thought it didn't open til July 1st, something to do with players contracts running til the end of June.

I'm a lot calmer than I was this time last year. It wants to start heating up soon though if we're going to take our new signings on tour with us.
But as it stands the window isn't even open yet, I don't expect much before July 1st.
What is annoying is that they're isn't any mega/muppet threads going.

Obviously van gaal wants his signings ready for preseason, i was hoping for that my self because it takes a while for players to get used to his "philosophy". I'd be surprised if we started preseason with just memphis.

I'd feel way more comfortable if we at least got a defender signed soon.

.. And a couple of midfielders too. I'm quite anxious this year when I'm not normally. It's such an important summer.

Even though this thread is premature I can understand why you've made it. All season we have heard LVG saying he wants the team together for pre season which is understandable given the task of adapting to our ways. At the end of the season he said he was leaving Woodward to negiotiate deals and had given him lists of players for each position. It is a little concerning nothing concrete has come out yet.

Players start training again in 2 weeks bar the players at the Copa America so the clocks ticking.
