Too early to be getting worried?

Reading through this thread, there seems to be a recurring criticism of United's transfer work last summer, namely that a number of the players we signed haven't gone on to become great for United already.

I think that's a remarkably short sighted way to look at things. Fellaini and Mata are good examples of signings needing time to settle - both were much improved compared to their first twelve and six months at the club respectively.

In my opinion, long run, Herrera, Shaw and Di Maria will be considered United greats, while Blind and Rojo will be important squad players. We need to give these feckers a bit of time to settle before pronouncing that they're all massive disappointments.

I think it's time to get worried. It looks like we're in for a clever one where it's all quiet then Bam! All our signings are made and it's all over before the window even gets properly started, then poor muppets like me will be starving all summer long. Could be the most boring muppet summer ever. I'm very worried.

Tbh I never considered this from that perspective and it's certainly true.

I said in another thread that I don't think anyone has any idea what we're up to in the market. The players you listed have been strongly rumoured in the media but that's the extent to which they've been linked to us; the media. Nothing official from the club, nothing from the players themselves. Yes, it would be nice to see signings made so they have plenty of time to bed in, but as mentioned many times here we have about a month to go. Things can and will happen because I think Ed's learned from his debacle under Moyes.

I wonder how many players the rest of the Top four have signed. Feck make that Top four in Europe Top leagues.

Every year the same thing happens and the same points are made, only to be reminded the window isn't even open yet.

I'll be annoyed if the main bulk of our business isn't done by pre season due to the qualifier.

It turned out to be a pretty terrible window in truth.

Not really. Herrera and Blind, mainstays of the team and key to our best football this season. Rojo, promising first season. Shaw, excellent when he's played, injury has been his problem not performance. Di Maria's underperformed but I'd still rather go into next season with him in our squad than without, because he's bound to settle in and find form sooner or later and when he does he's world class.

And Falcao - the only actual 'bad buy' - we got on loan, which now looks like a very good move!

Wouldnt bet the farm that Di Maria will ever quite fit in, though it is certainly possible. I just think there may be a compatibility issue with Van Gaal, he wont get the opportunity to play in the position where has excelled.
But agree with the general point. I think Rojo will step up a level next season, and Shaw and Herrera are both demonstrably good buys. I expect Blind to be an improved version of Phil Neville or John O'Shea - flexible and dependable, and a very important squad player.

As for the topic, yes.

Yep like evey window since 2008 has been a disappointment, because of either wrong priorities, or just not good enough. That has been the story of our transfer activity's the last 7 years

It's going to be a looong summer if people are concerned already!

It certainly didnt live up to the huge expectations it created in many fans at the time. But it was a necessary window. As much for the departures as the arrivals. We certainly took a big step in the right direction. And I expect us to build on that this summer.

It is a bit early to be getting worried, although I can understand the reason for the thread. Until we see the players we need being unveiled to the media there will always be a nagging doubt about whether we'll get them.

Nah lets be honest, no one wants to join Manchester United.

Probably fewer people than some folks like to imagine. How many of our first choice signings would have us as their first choice?

How many of our first choices will move away from their current clubs period?

They always seem to when Real or Barca come knocking. IMHO we're probably around 7th or 8th in terms of where world class players would like to play. More damagingly, we're probably 4th in England. That above all is why we need to start challenging for silverware.

I think a lot of the problems we are seeing is that players are using Man Utd as a bargaining tool.
They are telling their current club that Man Utd are interested, so please give me a better contract.
The latest player to do this was Dani Alves. Some of these players have absolutely no interest in joining us.

In any case, as long as we get 2 more quality signings, I think that'll be it (remember we already have Depay), and if we buy more 2-3 first teamers, we are unlikely to compete for the title. LFC last Summer and Spurs the year before that, are the best example. If you want to go for the title you must aim for 2-3 signings (Chelsea last Summer and Man City did the same the year before).

Gundogan apparently going to Barca
Alves now staying at Barca
Pogba apparently a target for Barca and Real
Nothing new on Otemendi
Nothing new on Schneiderlin
De Gea uncertainty still ongoing/won't be long till all viable replacements are signed up by others

At least we've signed Depay I guess

(Note this post isn't 100% serious, just 70 or 80%)

Calm down, it's too early ;)

on more serious note- Van Gaal and Master Woodie said they wanted to the business beofre the team leaves for pre-season tour.

If we don't make any business by then I will get slightly worried. No business before start of the league will get me angry.

Think about it, if we finish all our business early, what are we going to do the whole summer?

You mean like DDG shitting all over your fans by jumping at the first opportunity to leave?
I mean using a common sense from time to time. He said he's going on vacation and decision after that. Is that so hard to decode ?

You can add a story line to this however you like for an entertainment value which I almost always appreciate.

Let's be honest DDG is leaving unless he gets forced to stay.

You won't know that for sure unless he'll return from vacation and decide which contract he wants to sign and basically that's my whole point about United's transfer targets. Can't base assumptions on something solid right now especially with United's stance against leaking any official information till it's pretty much a done deal.

You may be 100% right though, I never tried to disprove that as it's one of the possibilities but De Gea will have to take action himself sooner or later.

DDG has had a few years to sign now and we heard "oh he's waiting to see if we get in top 4" really think we deserve a wee bit more loyalty back from him. But hey ho different days nowadays. No doubt in my mind he'll move to Real given the opportunity and I suppose good riddance in a way. I want players that want to play for United and players like DDG to go play in the circus! Hope he has a shocker!

Willing to play for United is not enough. It's a virtue but in collision with reality it's the actual talent and skills that matter in the end. So far De Gea has been the biggest professional in this team, improving constantly every year and taking his goalkeeping to a next level. I appreciate that no matter what.

Actually he as one of the very few in this team deserve a solid vacation away from media spotlight but it's not his fault that his family lives in Madrid and came to us from a Madrid team. Obviously it will fuel the speculation till we'll actually hear something official from him.

I don't think Arsenal are more attractive than us. They might have been last year, but that was a one season no champions league job.

Now we are willing to pay as much if not more wages than City and Chelsea, that's been levelled out too.

Van I keep looking for the white text but I will be shocked if DDG stays and signs s new contract. Surely you don't expect anything other than DDG moving to Madrid?

No, because none of our rivals have strengthened. I think after the internationals , we will see movement.

Obviously I expect something as You should too but should we less and less expect United to keep their elite stars ? I'm actually more worried about that than the fear of no signings at all especially in a first half of June.

He may want to return to Spain someday but absolutely nothing suggests that he's recently unsettled in United, he also didn't put a transfer request and wasn't in any way bullied into signing a new contract so I really don't know what to expect yet.

Id prefer it to be like 2007 when we pretty much got nani, hargreaves and anderson done fairly quickly and then of course tevez for the second game of the season.

We did pretty well that season and all four scored in the CL final shootout :)

All will fall together. Louis has identified his targets and told the players who Can leave. Ideally as Louis himself mentioned, he'd love to have them all in for pre-season, the ball is in Woodies court now. It is our first summer window in 3 seasons where we are (potentially) this organised. Last summer Louis didn't know the full squad he had and he was away with Holland, season before was Moyes and Woodie coming in....and we know how that ended up.

A little bit of patience. Things should move now in the next few weeks, European players wise with almost all qualifiers done.
