As good as Kroos is, I still can't help but question whether he is the midfielder we need. Not sure if I can take another midfielder who plays the game at walking pace.

If he was to come, we would definitely require a quick moving player alongside, otherwise it's going to be very slow through the middle. Him and Gundogan would just be an ideal CM combo in my view, and both look to be available.

Kroos Gundogan
Januzaj Mata Rooney
RvP
Tell me that isn't filthy!

Not so good now.

None of Kroos or Gündogan is so defensive minded. Drop One of Mata, Rooney or Januzaj and put a sweeper in...

Gundogan can play as a DM, so he had a defensive instinct if need be

Still wouldn't work imo both need a more defensive player, a real work horse next to them. Schweinsteiger + Kroos for example never really impressed me as Martinez + Schweinsteiger or Kroos + Martinez. Same goes for Gündogan he either needs Bender or Kehl next to him to really shine while Gündogan + Sahin probably wouldn't work all that well.

He'd be wasted in a defensive role with Kroos. Gundogan was great at setting the tone for Dortmund because Bender was there gobble up the spaces he left behind. Can't see either Kroos or Gundogan matching Bender's work-rate at the back.

Schweinsteiger does not need a total sweeper. It is enough if the second one next to him can go both defensive and offensive like he does. Van Bommel for sure was not only a sweeper when he was working together with Schweinsteiger at Bayern.

But yes, Gündogan and Kroos both need - Kroos even more than Gündogan. Kroos does not even have the physics to go box to box.

Can anyone who constantly talks about Gundogan genuinely answr YES to the 2 questions below.

1) Have you actually seen him play much
2) Is it wise to buy someone who has been out for so long?

1 Yes.
2 In the current situation Yes because our options in the summer will be extremely limited.

I think we'd definitely need to be careful about it and make sure we didn't make the same mistake that we did with Hargreaves. It's pretty essential that we get the next central midfield signing absolutely right.

Gündogan has not played since August/September because of back problems. Nobody actually knows what he really has and when he comes back.

Yay we've been made used of again. We should collect some royalty fees when it happens next time again

Nothing has changed, Bayern's stance remains as it was and Kroos hasn't signed his contract or come out and said he will stay so I don't know how you come to that conclusion just yet.

I'm surprised so many thought there was something in this.

There still is something in this, Arjen Robben signed a new contract recently, yet Kroos still hasn't, the board keep talking to the press about it because they don't seem so sure, and they suddenly released this statement before he leaves for a quarter final against Manchester United, why release the statement ahead of such a crucial clash with a team he is linked with?

The fact remains Kroos has still not extended his contract, they are playing hard-ball, the talks aren't even set until after the world-cup.

In that case, i hope this pisses him off even further

It's Kroos first chance to see Old Trafford.

We need to get it around Twitter to give him a Ronaldo like welcome and get United into his head.

Wouldn't mind if when we call out the team sheet Kroos gets a huge cheer by United fans, or every time he gets the ball he gets clapped to give him the message the fans think a lot of him.

They didn't release a statement, Rummenigge just answered a question and basically said, Bayern won't sell Kroos even if he doesn't extend his contract. That's all and Sammer said exactly the same a few weeks ago. Of course a few journalists will ask questions about Kroos and a potential transfer to United ahead of the games, that was always going to happen.

Journalism for you though, need something to print, they are the seagulls that follow the trawler.

Guaranteed to score tonight.

Agreed and it's guaranteed to be a 25 yard peach of a goal.

Honestly though he looks like he'll fit in brilliantly at United with those corners. Giggs only the second worst corner taker in that half.

Solid audition for Manchester United  I thought he was going to score from one of his longshots tonight, but his passing is scarily accurate.
