Yeah, I'd agree with you. Nobody really knows Kroos' motives, other than himself. So guess we'll see how the story pans out in the summer.

It's easy to take a stab at what his motives are, he's said it isn't about money, what we can deduce by his previous comments are, in my opinion (being an admirer of his playing style and how surprisingly under rated he has been for large parts of his career, I think he has been thinking about moving from Bayern for some time).

This is him talking in November 2013:

"It's possible that I will leave the Bundesliga at some point. Everyone who has experienced different leagues, like Miroslav Klose for instance, says that it helps your development." Kroos revealed he was considering his options ahead of the campaign, but quickly got used to the style of Bayern's new coach Pep Guardiola.

You can see that he's thought about leaving the Bundesliga, and that he agrees with Klose that moving leagues can help you develop, even ahead of Pep coming in he was considering leaving.

Kroos said recently about the agreements.

"It is certainly not only about the money, that would not be my character." Kroos said "But, of course, I’d have to lie if I was to say that it is not also about the money."

So people saying about Kroos not leaving Bayern, "why would he want to leave Bayern" he was already thinking of leaving even before Pep came in.

He even said yesterday:

"Nothing has been decided about my future. It is not a secret that the Premier League is an option for me."

What people fail to understand is, if you have had a desire to do something for a long time, the desire doesn't go away, it intensifies.

Felix Kroos said that he spoke to Toni Kroos about Manchester United move, and it was Felix dream club growing up, for brothers with a 2 year age gap they probably watched Manchester United together, and why only mentioned Manchester United in the press conference? why not acknowledge other clubs? it's because that's the club Toni is thinking about currently.

Toni knows his quality, and at Bayern he's under many peoples shadows, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, even new comers like Gotze and Thiago (and Gotze and Thiago are on better contracts than Toni) so Toni feels very under appreciated at Bayern and is insulted by their contract offers, Imagine staying at a club for 8-9 years and them not offering more money than people who joined last year, that are younger than you, pretty insulting for your loyalty right?

Let's say you are a footballer, and the manager of one of the worlds biggest clubs, with £200M to spend comes to your agent at a home game especially to watch you, and puts £250,000 a week wages on the table, not only that but every few weeks when he has time, comes and watches you play (not just sending a scout, but the manager himself, you must be pretty important for him to do so!), and it's a club you watched growing up, you'd feel pretty appreciated by that manager wouldn't you? a club isn't just about money, it's about being appreciated by fans and staff, Ronaldo was unhappy at Real Madrid because the fans weren't 100% behind him in the last few years, now they are, so it's not always about money.

There is human need in this too, if Man Utd was somewhere he loved as a child, like it was for his brother Felix (Not fully sure what Toni's boyhood team was) then it would be good, Ronaldo stayed at United for 8-9 years but moved to Real, Toni has been at Bayern for 8-9 years now also, it might be time to move clubs to further his professional development.

Let's face it, at City, Real, Barca, he wouldn't be the star, or be appreciated amongst many of the players, at Manchester United it's a unique club, the fans would sing his name in every game, everywhere in the crowd their would be Kroos shirts, pundits on Match of the Day would say how instrumental Kroos is to the United side. Toni would feel very appreciated by the players and the fans with the biggest fan base in the world, I think he wouldn't be under-appreciated like at other clubs, he isn't anywhere near a fan favourite at Bayern and wouldn't at clubs like Real with Ronaldo and Bale, or Messi and Neymar for example.

Manchester United can also bring in players like Gundogan, Reus, Hummels in the summer, german national team mates to make him feel more welcome the kind of media attention he will get day one by the Man Utd fans, he will feel very special, very appreciated and I think he knows what Manchester United is as a club.

Not only is it a good time to move to Manchester United, but to move now, and have the team built around you in the midfield, with team mates that compliment your play-style and you be pivotal to it all, every pass go through Kroos, who wouldn't want that?

There's a balance between money and medals anyway, to pull a shirt on of a team with history, and believe in what you are doing, what you are playing for is worth it, would he get that history at other clubs in england? probably not.

I've said multiple times on this forum, pair him up with someone like Gundogan who can do box to box, a ball winner along-side Kroos like Carvalho, all below 24 years old (Kroos turning 24 in January) that midfield by the time they have all gelled in a years time, they will be competing for champions leagues, that midfield can play any off the pitch.

I feel he's running down his contract intentionally because he wants to move on, he's in the driving seat with one year left on his contract, I think his family would be an influence on his decision and his brother specifically picked out Manchester United when he gave the interview, so it's the club that's probably currently on his mind.

It's nice to win plaudits around your team mates, but he's always going to be under the shadow of other players at Bayern, won't win things like Team of the Year there, I think he wants a fresh challenge, by what he says in interviews, he's been considering it for more than a year now, maybe two.

Kroos, Mata, Rooney, Januzaj, all key building blocks in the rebuilding process to be amongst the european elite at englands most prestigious club.

I do find the idea of that quite remarkable. I know he's very good and in a position we are desperate to strengthen but isn't that an amount only about 5 or so players in the world earn?

It's the premium you have to pay to get players to a team that will probably not be in UCL. If we did qualify however, then it would be a different story.

I dunno, nobody does. And there are only so many pockets they can fill to that amount. They've Lewandowski, who'll be on massive wages, coming in too, don't forget.

I dont think its about them filling pockets, I'm sure there are players they would pay that money to get but I think the way he is going about it will lead to them not giving the money to make a stand of sorts. They dont NEED hime like we would and therefore will use him as a scapegoat in case the rest of their players might want these kinds of demands.

You gave me a boner. :D

Dropped for the game despite bring one of the best players in the first leg. Pep clearly didn't like his comments yesterday.

I didn't think there was an ounce of truth in any of the speculation before he made those comments. I still think he's using United to get the contract he wants at Bayern, but maybe now he'll accidentally burn his bridges and be forced to join us.

@Balu, what is your genuine opinion on Kroos' and Muller's futures, mate? I remember Muller mulling his Bayern future before and being interested in playing in Italy.

No not really I think, if it is than 2 of those are currently playing at our club (Rooney and RVP).

If Muller was at all available I'd hope we'd be all over him too. Seriously brilliant player.

You've turned me into a believer. Damn you!

That long post is very optimistic. Overly so in fact. Fans of any club sing about their big name players, not just United. He will be supported by fans at any cluh he plays for. He's also one of the most important players in that Bayern side. Pep is very complimentary of him and it seems that he wants to build that Bayern side around Kroos.

As for his brother's comments, it seems like a calculated move by his family to increase pressure on Bayern. Why mention United? Because it's the club he's most heavily linked by. They're using our interest in him to help their negotiations with Bayern.

History of the club? Maybe it's a factor but for footballers it's quite far down the list of reasons they join a club. If Madrid or Chelsea offer him a better financial package than us, he'll most likely choose them.

@Balu, what is your genuine opinion on Kroos' and Muller's futures, mate? I remember Muller mulling his Bayern future before and being interested in playing in Italy.
Müller won't leave. I've no idea why he didn't start today, we look so much better with him in the team. No idea what's going on with Kroos at the moment, I'd say it depends on what Guardiola plans for the future. We quite often played a 4231 in recent weeks and I think Kroos is way better suited to the 4141 we played in the first half of the season.

It's fair enough, if one of our players made those kind of comments we'd be livid.

Muller offers something different in the latter stages of a game, especially big games he seems to take advantage of tired minds, I wouldn't be surprised to see a late goal today from Muller.

It seems Muller does better in games when there is space to be taken advantage of, in the first half its a cagey game, with away teams sitting deep, Muller wouldnt be able to capitalize on that so much, later stages of the game, sure, but Arsenal have not yet decided to press up the field.

I couldn't imagine Bayern letting their 2 top German talents leave in one single window. Then again, they have shown an interest in Draxler, so a couple will have to make way. Shaqiri probably? Robben?

I wonder how long can Pep keep all these top players out of the team for important games and happy.

Draxler will go to Bayern I bet, I don't think they need to let any go, Robben and Ribery have a place they're 30+ now so a couple of injuries they may not be the same players, but they have so much cover in the midfield, I think they need a right back too if Lahm is to play CDM in the season too if that's how he chooses to rotate.

Shaqiri is a promising player I don't see why he would ever leave.

To be honest, it's all rather confusing at the moment. I never imagined that we could have a squad like that. I don't really care about transfers at all, I wasn't excited when we signed Thiago and don't care one bit about Lewandowski. We'll see what happens in the summer. I doubt we're interested in Draxler though, Robben will sign a new contract, Shaqiri should leave, imo, it would be better for his development.

Can you afford to let Robben and Ribéry age without adequate replacements now when there are players on the market like Draxler? I think Draxler will be a bayern player come the end of the season, Lewandowski is a free transfer, meaning that doensn't harm you in the slightest.

Lewandowski, how can you not be excited about him? Mandzukic wastes so many chances per game, his conversion rate is shocking, Bayern score from the midfield, he would bring something new to the table.

There are great players available every year. Buying Draxler now, because Ribery and Robben might need to be replaced in 2 or 3 years seems stupid, especially with Müller, Götze, Shaqiri already in the team. Draxler should start regularly and not waste 2 years as a squad player behind Ribery.

Lewandowski is a cnut and I'd much rather see Müller start as the striker or Götze as a false 9, so I don't really care if Lewandowksi or Mandzukic sits on the bench ;).

Mandzukic is garbage.

He's just there to bully opponents, win headers, and physical presence, the only other striker I can think in Europe besides Drogba who does that is Diego Costa, and both of them have end product.

I agree Mandzukic is carried a lot by his team mates, but Bayern have too many chances in a game for him to be much of a problem, if Mandzukic was a defender he would have been benched long ago and sold.

I have a feeling that TheNewEra is going to be a lot of fun during the transfer season. :)

Absolutely - very promising start, credit to the mods for the promotion

As ever I doubt he'll leave Bayern - even considering the money and fame arguments, leaving them right now seems an absolutely crazy suggestion. So this seems ideal for this forum

Yeah yeah, but he's not really going to leave Bayern for us is he? He'll sign a bumper new contract and that will be that.

Not sure if patronising but I'm entitled to my opinion.

I see Kroos coming personally, I am never optimistic about transfers, Mata I didn't think is the right fit with Kagawa being similar in playstyle, Fellaini didn't excite me, Fabregas saga didn't...

I'll be honest, RVP didn't excite me, nor did Young, Kroos I can really see happening, I've followed him since he was around 19 I just think his mentality, the way he plays also, perfect fit... nobody in Europe that would be a better fit in the squad.

I think he wants a fresh challenge too, you may call me an optimist but I think I am a realist, it's achievable, if you think I'll be singing from the mountain tops come July you'll be disappointed because I go by evidence mostly, I weigh up collectively contributing factors, so I think Kroos is very realistic.

In football it's down to the player, just as much as the club, for some time he has dropped hints about trying a different league, people see it in terms of winning and losing, and where you are in a league table, it's part of it yes, but players join "new projects" or different clubs because they buy into an idea or philosophy.

To say a player won't leave say Bayern, you may say that, but Daniel Alves is possibly leaving Barca this summer, so is Victor Valdez, why leave Barcelona? they compete every year in the CL and La Liga, best team in the past 10 years... it happens.

No patronising intended - I've enjoyed reading your posts so far and genuinely welcome you to the main forum.

I find a pessimistic approach to transfer speculation is usually the best starting point, but if this starts picking-up serious momentum as the window approaches then I'll be pretty quick to get carried away - the quality of the player coupled with the recent "impossible" captures of RVP and Mata would make anything else downright irresponsible.

Ah, sorry just hard to read context sometimes online, it's nice to be here :) I think one thing Moyes is doing well is going personally to his scouting trips, to a player that means a lot more than just sending a random scout on an assignment... his big targets him going himself I'm sure means a lot to the scouted player if they feel undervalued at a current squad.

Not sure if patronising but I'm entitled to my opinion.

I see Kroos coming personally, I am never optimistic about transfers

I don't think it's anything near certain just yet.

If it was, he'd be keeping his mouth quiet and waiting for the end of the season. I think he's very much playing chicken with Bayern right now and we're sitting, waiting, hoping.

Don't see him getting too far playing chicken with them. As evidenced by their line-up yesterday, with the possiblity of Martinez still to come into the midfield, he is nowhere near indespensible enough to name his price to Bayern.

On that note, wasn't Sebastian just majestic last night? Along with Arturo Vidal, they are head and shoulders the best of their kind out there.

It's Bastian. For a moment I was completely confused about who the feck you're talking about . He was brilliant, yes, looks like he finally gets back to his best after all the problems with injuries in the last 9 months.

Kroos was sick during the week, had to take antibiotics, that's why he didn't start according to Sammer and Guardiola.

That's who he means? I didn't know who he meant be Sebastian either, then I was like huh Juventus aren't even in the CL!

Don't call me Sebastian again. Ever. I mean it. My name is Bastian.
