Exactly... it would be like saying someone like Mata would leave Mourinho for Moyes.

If only there was more to it.

Mata wasn't starting for Mourinho. Kroos has been instrumental for Bayern in the last 2 seasons. Kroos is still a part of Guardiola's plans, Mata was not.

Apples and Oranges. Cute attempt though.

That is ture but Kroos isn't irreplaceable in this Bayern team and apparently they are reluctant to give into his wage demand. If he was so instrumental for Guardiola wouldn't he already have been signed up on a new deal months ago ? It is failry simple Kroos feels like he deserves to be one of the big boys at Bayern and Bayern clearly disagrees with that sentiment and doesn't want to pay him a top salary. Yes he has played alot this season but that has been down to the fact that Schweinsteiger has been injurred and Götze has been forced to play out wide to cover up Ribery when he was injurred and he was also played as a false striker. There is no way Kroos will be a vital player for Bayern next year as they know they have Schweinsteiger, Götze and also Thiago to play on his position. Sure he'll get games and when he performs the way he is doing he'll get alot of them but he is far from instrumental to this Bayern team and they don't want to make him a big earner because they see him as a squad player with the potential to become one of the big players but they don't see him as a big player yet, hence why they don't want to give in with his wage demands hence why he hasn't signed a new deal and hence when that doesn't get resolved in the summer why Kroos might consider leaving to another team where he would be considered as a vital big player and where he could receive the wages he demands.

There is no guarantee Bayern will give in, definitley not because they have such a rich squad that won't be kept to ransom by a single player, as long as they don't give in there is a chance Kroos might leave and I see no reason why he wouldn't want to come United if that happend. If he gets his paycheck that he wants, the guarantee to be one of the first names on the team sheet and if he could be convinced by the planned rebuild at United than I see no reason why he couldn't come to United.

Mata wasn't instrumental for Chelsea, that is why they let him go, but he could have gone to alot of other clubs yet United managed to get him, which means playing for Moyes doesn't scare players as much as people like you think it does. Ofcourse Kroos would prefer to stay at Bayern, just like Mata would have preferred to stay at Chelsea no doubt, but only under the conditions that they'd want. With Mata the issue was playing time, with Kroos the issue is his role in the team and the pay that comes with that role. It is not exactly the same but there alot more similarities than what you are saying.

I know it's impossible to call right, but who do you think you'll sign?
It's impossible to call as you said, we've been linked with every player and his dog. With Kroos' brother speaking about United and now Kroos openly discussing moving to England, this one seems to maybe have more legs to it. Definitely in the media anyway.

Guardiola has never dealt well with players like Kroos. Imo, he made his peace with Kroos leaving when he bought Thiago.

I know it's impossible to call right, but who do you think you'll sign?
He's fallen a little bit out of vogue at the moment, but I still think Barkley will be the one.

Fergie always had a thing for British midfielders for some reason, and I just reckon that Moyes will have been encouraged to keep up the tradition.

Yeah, supporters don't really realize that its the players' life after all, and the place he lives in matters quite a bit. It's not all about the football or the paycheck for some of them, some want to have their families settled in a nice area (not saying Manchester isn't nice of course, but its all down to personal preference).

Everywhere is a 'nice area' when you earn £200k per week.

Plus, the places in Cheshire like Alderley Edge (where they actually live) are idyllic. Nobody could complain about living there.

It's all down to what Kroos wants, it's not just about money as he said in an interview, it's part of it but not all.

Exactly, and it's not just Alderley, there are lots of fantastic places to live around here.

Plenty of nice areas but there's always going to be people who'd prefer sunny Spain to rainy Manchester. Ones who'd prefer London's transport links to the continent, to a tram to Altringham. Ones who'd find Munich's cultural offerings more to their taste.

I do think the Northwest, in general, isn't the easiest place to sell to those with no connection to it.

Not 100% sure about that, if you grow up in your home country, it's your culture you are familiar with it, so you go abroad and everything is strange to you, it's not how it is at home so everything is different.

It's the same with an English person going to Spain, Germany, America, Italy it's different, and vice versa.

I think some of you may be reading way too much into location to be honest.
I think it's a pretty small factor. Mainly as the very top players tend to get there by being very focused on their football and as such are likely to wish to be wherever they think best for their career. I'm sure it plays a role in the decision making of a fair few, though.

I think some of you may be reading way too much into location to be honest.
Exactly. City managed to attract Aguero, Silva and Toure from Spain by lining their pockets. The North West isn't some kind of desolate shit hole either! Sure the weather is pretty crap but the places these guys will be living in Cheshire are ridiculously nice scenic places to live.

Given some of the players that have played in the region I don't think it's anywhere near as big a factor as some make out. Plus the weather here is exaggerated, of course it's not like Spain but it's not as bad as is made out. It's bloody glorious at the moment.

As for London's transport links to the continent, you'd think you're comparing it to Micronesia or something, it's plenty easy to get into Europe from here, we have this little airport just a short drive away.

Oh and it's Altrincham, not Altringham, and there's nothing wrong with it, in fact there's quite a few players live in the extremely affluent area of Hale, which is right next door.

There's plenty of culture and amazing places to live around here, in spite of the ignorance of many.

Manchester gets a decent bit of sun but also vast amounts of rain, because of the Pennines. London has the Eurostar as well as the airports. I've never been to Altrincham, though I did once accidentally get a tram towards it, resulting in me missing my train and having to pay £35 quid for a new ticket. So feck Altrincham, however it's spelt!

I like Manchester. Mainly as I like the friendly nature of the area. I'm not sure if I was a multimillionaire from a different country it would be massively appealing to me, though.

It's the wage packet and the tidy sum of money that goes to the players' agent that counts. I don't know why people are pessimistic in regards to our transfer dealings this Summer. We have spent money over the past few years, but this weird thing Sir Alex, or whoever it was, had with "finding value" was nonsense, and we lost out on players as a result of it. By all accounts, we're going to pay massive wages and we're going to shell out big fees. Europe or no Europe, a Manchester United that treats the market with the lunacy it deserves is a major, major player.

PSG, Monaco and City have signed a host of genuinely brilliant players on the back of such an attitude. If we do the same, and all noises point to this kind of spending, then the likes of Kroos will have food for thought. As you say, location won't really come into it.

People dispel it because they are used to it, having grown up there it's the norm pretty much.

If I moved to spain today I'd think there's plenty to do "why do we not have this back home" just as a Spaniard or German coming to England they would think "Oh we don't have this back home" you find new things in different cultures that you didn't expect and it's a nice change.

I reckon the current situation is something like this although I'm completely guessing the figures of course:

Kroos is on around £75,000 currently.
We are offering £250,000.
Bayern won't go past £150,000.

Kroos has to come down to Bayern's figure if he wants to stay with them which, fair enough, they see as a privalidge and the right place for any player of his talent to win things and fulfil their potential.

Kroos would prefer £250,000 a week or close to it and in an ideal world would rather he got that at Bayern which is what he's holding out for.

Either Bayern or himself have to compromise and if they don't, that's where we step in and he'll happily move to us and take that wage.

I do find the idea of that quite remarkable. I know he's very good and in a position we are desperate to strengthen but isn't that an amount only about 5 or so players in the world earn?

Yes, but the Chevrolet and Kit deal mean we have £100M per year off kit deals alone meaning we can pay those kind of wages, it's £14M a year, but making bits of that back on Merchandise, he would be the only midfielder on those wages, if we were to get players like Gundogan or Carvalho they would probably be on about £100,000 a year.

Having key names like Kroos in your team would make other teams want to come to you, "Manchester United beat top teams in Europe to Kroos signing".

It would turn heads, people would think, I want to play with Kroos, Rooney, Mata, it'd have buzz about it just as Kaka was followed by Ronaldo.

Kroos ain't the livestyle guy who has to live in a big city. He is one of the Bayern players that even in Munich leads a very quiet live with his little family and his dogs. And as I have seen him playing in heat in preparations - I doubt that he prefers to play football in really warm weather.

So all of this ain't obstacles.

Hamann today twittered that he has the gut feeling that Kroos will play in the EPL next year.

I believe it to be true, I posted something about this on the Newbie forums yesterday, about why he should move, but I do think given the circumstances he will look elsewhere, his quotes suggest it, and news that has leaked out point he is bound for the EPL, he is a character of integrity and value his family I think will advise him to go to Manchester United too.

And yet he's been one of his most played players this season. I doubt he's made peace with it at all.

True, "making peace" is probably not the right phrase. I just think Guardiola is the type of manager who wants everyone singing from the same sheet. I don't think he has a lot of tolerance for insubordination. In my opinion if Kroos' is making demands as has been reported, its the sort of behaviour that will make Guardiola think "Screw it, he's messing with my team philosophy/unity. Let the guy leave, we're better off without that". Not saying he's right, its just the impression I have of how Guardiola wants to manage.

All that being said, I don't think Kroos is coming to United. Missing the Champions League will hurt us hard on this one.

He said yesterday it doesn't need to be a champions league team, that he will "consider all options".

Sign of the times. Besides, with the deadwood we'll be getting rid of this summer (some of which are on very high salaries), we can expect a salary cap to go up.

I think any player would probably "consider" an offer from Manchester United. We're one of the most important football clubs in the world. However, we're also shit at the moment and as unattractive a suitor as we've been for many years. There will be competition for his signature and I just don't see us winning that battle in our current state. Fingers crossed I'm wrong.

Suarez to Liverpool.
Ribery to Bayern.
Ronaldinho to Barcelona.

These are three signings, off the top of my head, that were world class and moved to teams without Champions League football.

None of those players moved from the best club in the world at the time, either.

But were they on the wages they felt they deserved?

My point is that the lack of Champions League argument is a bit pointless because it obviously holds different significance to different player's. The top player's want to play in it, of course, but is a season without it gonna jeopardise Kroos' place in the German squad? No.

You think Kroos won't get the wages he wants at Bayern? They're loaded.
I dunno, nobody does. And there are only so many pockets they can fill to that amount. They've Lewandowski, who'll be on massive wages, coming in too, don't forget.

I doubt their wages are much higher than ours, given Rooney's new contract and Mata's arrival.

Schweinsteiger, Neuer, Thiago, Ribery, Robben, Gotze and Lahm would all be on very high wages.
Martinez, Muller and Alaba are all probably bringing home nice pay packets too. Add Lewandowski to the mix and that's a high wage average I'd say. It all depends how serious they are about Kroos, something has obviously turned his head anyway. As of now, with what we've heard from Kroos, his brother, and some of Bayern's hierarchy it sounds a bit likely he'll leave. We'll just have to wait and see. It's up to Bayern, pay him the wages he feels he deserves, or that we've turned his head with, or he'll want out.

He said yesterday it doesn't need to be a champions league team, that he will "consider all options".
As far as I know, he answered to the question if it has to be a champions league team with the usual 'everything is possible'. That's very different to himself making such a comment. There's no need for him to limit his options at the moment, so he just throws a few meaningless comments around.

No it won't. And especially in a year in which you get used to a new team it might not matter that much - especially after a stressy World Cup. We are not talking about the rest of a career without football - but of a 24 year old that only would miss a year of CL action in a newly built team. Manchester United will not miss out for more than that year. In the long run he comes to a club that has internationally a bigger fanbase than Bayern and he will be known more in the world as a leading Manchester United player than as a squad player at today's Bayern. The EPL is just a lot more popular in the world.

Yeah, I'd agree with you. Nobody really knows Kroos' motives, other than himself. So guess we'll see how the story pans out in the summer.
