So that's Thiago, Özil and Kroos we've all turned down now in 10 months?
I don't think we were ever in the position to turn down Kroos. There has been absolutely no indication whatsoever that Bayern are/were willing to sell.

How have we turned him down?

FFS. Bayern haven't accepted our bid and said they will keep him to 2015. Should we waste all summer like last year on one target?
Fair point.

It may be the case that Bayern have let us know they are not selling, in which case we are better off ending our interest swiftly.

But we can't afford it? If we pay players like Kroos as much as Schweinsteiger, our overall wage bill explodes and we simply can't let that happen. The fact that one of the few even richer clubs offer him significantly more than we're paying our best players doesn't make it a 'fair' price. It just means that one of richest clubs in the world uses their financial power to sign a player. There's nothing wrong with it, but don't make it sound like we're not offering 'fair' prices to our players, that's just very very wrong.

No, because you guys decide if Schweinsteiger is still worth that much or not. You give somebody a new contract based on what he can do over that time, not what he has done for you in the past. You've chosen that Schweinsteiger is still your midfield star and that you can't afford to pay another player in his position the same, even though he might be better at this point. Fair, is what Kroos wanted, the reported 9-10m€ per year. That's not anything out of the world, but just what you pay for a world class midfielder these days. Not to mention that Götze earns insanely well at Bayern given their wage structure, who isn't anywhere near as important as Kroos so far.

Look I know what you mean but that's the problem with having probably the best squad ever assembled. You either manage to get players to sign below their market value (Müller, Martinez even though different story) or you might lose a few.

Exactly. Seems we are moving on to the next target, which is great to see after last summer's shenanigans.

I don't mean literally.

But half their website is dedicated to Kroos and now they look stupid as it looks as if we aren't even interested.

I'm not saying I do or don't believe it, but they have stuck their neck out and even published articles about it being a done deal - when it clearly isn't.

Yeah its interesting when they're so categorical. I can only assume that they have an informal leak from somewhere, and that United had made some element of progress in talks with club or player, and decided to gamble on claiming it was a done deal. But they can easily say that LVG changed their mind after a deal was agreed. If anything its more dramatic that way.

To the Fabregas thread?
No there is still hope. It aint over until its over.
Crazy if it's true that LvG has called the transfer off. Maybe he feels Strootman is better suited to what he has planned.

Also hearing David Moyes is being investigated for an alleged assault in a wine bar????

(apologies for posting this here)

Strootman and Kroos are different players. Also why would you turn down a world class midfielder if we can sign him for the amount being touted?

Move with the times bro. Fabregas and Strootman is the next big thing.

I don't see us getting Strootman right now. In the winter transfer window maybe, but now not.

Don't have any qualms about Van Gaal stopping any transfers. He knows what kind of team he wants to build and what type of players he needs.

I'd trust him to make the right choices a lot more than Moyes.
Me either. My biggest issue would be - if indeed this is what has been happening - Woodward doing or trying to do deals for players identified by another manager, particularly if LVG had any doubts about them. If we're going to hire a DoF then fine, but Woodward isn't one, nor should he be stocking the squad with players brought to him by the guy he fired after less than a year.

In all seriousness, knowing how Van Gaal emphasizes the collective before the individual, a player who, by all accounts, wants to leave Bayern for United with the aim of getting a bigger pay rise, might not fit into Van Gaal's idea of an ideal signing.

Fabregas, on the other hand, will be moving to us more for footballing reasons rather than for money, if he does come here of course.

Poor blokes who aren't near a computer, coming home, seeing 20+pages in the Kroos thread, few reports about and agreed deal and bam, LvG steps in.

I wouldn't want Strootman because he will be fit by September. Then he'd need to get his fitness up after missing preseason and adjust to a new league.

We better off letting him stay at Roma for a year.

Don't forget van Gaal has managed Kroos before, I'd trust his judgement.

Regarding transfers I wouldn't be so sure. He's a great coach and has a clear philosophy, but I remember his time with Munich had some very odd transfers, to say the least.

So, will we be blaming Giggs for this in 12 months time?

Maybe you're right, if Van Gaal has never managed the player in question!

Didn't think this would happen- at least for the price that was being thrown around- and now it looks evermore likely that it wont, sadly.

Its a shame because Kroos is an excellent player and I'm not sure who else we'll be going for now.

All these reports saying we will or wont sign him could be bollocks either way but the main fact is, if Kroos is available you do not turn down the chance to sign him especially when you are the new manager of a huge club like ours that has the most god awful midfield on its books. The same applies to Fabregas again if available
you go all out for one of them or even both to really make a statement. Of course It doesn't mean we will be successful in pursuing them but to simply pass on the option would quite frankly be absurd if we have any intention of once again challenging for major trophies.

It seems obvious we'll go for Cesc. Whether we can do the deal is another matter.

If there was any chance of getting Kroos for 20 million, I think it seems strange to let such a good deal go and put all our eggs in the Cesc basket. Again.

But Kroos ain't Schweinsteiger. He might want to have his wage but he just does not offer the same. Schweinsteiger is the team leader on and off the pitch - something Kroos will never be - or what the officials think he will never be. Has a lot value with the fans and the partners, too. We did not win the CL with Kroos - we might have won it because Kroos was injured...

The Götze story is something really different.

LvG mentioned that his bosses expect him to get top 4 (minimum) in his first season; if Kroos is happy to do as Bayern wish (stay 'til 2015, that is - this also benefits Kroos) then perhaps van Gaal's decided to spend money elsewhere (given the Glazers' demand) rather than wait or offer - futile - big money for Kroos.

I've convinced myself we wont be getting Fabregas. He'll either stay at Barcelona or return to Arsenal.

Aside from Strootman, who has a pretty serious injury at the moment, who else could we go for that we could realistically get? I'm struggling to think of many names, to be honest.

Sneijder?

No wait Beyonce Knowles is reporting its back on, she's a pretty reliable source too.

If he's moving for non-profit reasons, so to speak, I'd say it's far more likely he'll be heading back to Wenger.

Hypothetically, how far would Arsenal go to get him - if a move is likely at all? They do have a bit of money now.
