Kroos came back from loan. I remember a first interview in which he told prior to the season that he might play in the no. 10 spot - but van Gaal added that he first would have to fight of Müller in that position and added that Müller was the best for him in the World Cup. I think Kroos played that no. 10 spot once when Robben was injured and Müller played the wing, but later on he played Schweinsteiger behind the striker (as long Robben was injured, than it was back to Müller als no.10/hanging striker and Robben on the wing) and tried to partner Kroos as a 6 together with van Bommel. Kroos did not have much defensive sense then and that did not really work out fine. He played but I am not sure if he would still have played if we did not have 10 injured players during the season. When all came back Kroos was injured.

From all I know about Kroos he is a player that needs a lot sugar to function - Heynckes his mentor gave it to him and Heynckes made the system matching for him, too. Van Gaal did not prioritize Kroos and did not give sugar - atleast not to Kroos.

It's not about rating.

Is Kroos attainable? That is the sticking point. Maybe we don't want to waste all summer trying to sign him and moving on.

I don't believe LVG rejected him. I think the key factor is getting Bayern to sell. So I guess we have to wait a year.
 
So Kroos and Carvalho would've been our midfield under Moyes next season. I guess ... Moyes in?

I wonder why we ended the interest now. It's not like LVG has just come in, surely he knew were after Kroos for a while.

that may be the factor. But also van Gaal may be going for Fabregas and Vidal which would sort our midfield perfect.

Clearly not regularly enough to stop a large portion of the media making complete fools of themselves. Done deal to no longer on the current list in hours, wonderful journalism.
 
Well this is depressing, how foolish of me to expect some positive news regarding this today. As soon as the Mail were reporting it we should have known it would go tits up, ah well.
 
My guess is LVG has told the club to move on. Kroos is probably playing hard to get to both us and Bayern and whilst I don't think the deal is totally dead due to his contract situation I don't think it's a bad idea to look for other targets. Bayern have come out to say they won't give him the £ he wants so that shows to me that Kroos isn't that desperate to leave. He just wants more money.
 
Don't have any qualms about Van Gaal stopping any transfers. He knows what kind of team he wants to build and what type of players he needs.

I'd trust him to make the right choices a lot more than Moyes.

I don't mean literally.

But half their website is dedicated to Kroos and now they look stupid as it looks as if we aren't even interested.

I'm not saying I do or don't believe it, but they have stuck their neck out and even published articles about it being a done deal - when it clearly isn't.
 
Maybe LVG has caught Moyesitis and now wants to go for Osman and Charlie Adam as our big name signings for the summer
 
It's like the Thiago thing all over again, the deal was in place and the manager came in and called of the deal.
 
So that's Thiago, Özil and Kroos we've all turned down now in 10 months?
 
How have we turned him down?

FFS. Bayern haven't accepted our bid and said they will keep him to 2015. Should we waste all summer like last year on one target?
