Tonali & Zaniolo questioned by Italian police for illegal betting activities | Tonali charged by FA for betting while at Newcastle

I am quite enjoying us not being in the limelight for one.

Good luck getting him to stop hiding from the ball. Your best bet is to play him as a number 10 like Scotland do, which obviously wouldn't be much of a like for like replacement for Tonali.

aye. he can’t do that 6/1 role that tonali occupies.

What do you get if you remove the shared letters from "Tonali Zaniolo"?

That's right, you get "T Zo".

How many letters are in "T Zo"?

That's right, three. The same number as there are in the word "bet".

But what does "T Zo" mean?

A TZO (or a Thorne-Zytkow object) also known as a hybrid star, is a conjectured type of star wherein a red giant or red supergiant contains a neutron star at its core, formed from the collision of the giant with the neutron star.

Who is also a red giant (or red supergiant)?

That's right, Manchester United.

And what about the "neutron star" at the "core" of Manchester United?

Well, "neutron" in this instance is a reference to head size, as in Nickelodeon legend Jimmy Neutron's massive bonce, and "star" refers to the player's perceived ability within the squad. Who does this refer to?

That's right, mister win percentage himself, Harry Maguire.

It would be unfair to blame Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo for these apparent crimes, when all of the evidence points towards them being the deeds of Harry Maguire.
Sounds legit

Yeah, totally uncalled for.

I've no moral issues with someone leaking people doing illegal shit and ending up suffering the consequences of their own moronic actions but outing people who are not ready for would make the whistleblower a huge idiot. If he really does that, I seriously hope he's sued and gets the book thrown at him.

Be weird if they got a ban for this!
I don’t see any benefit to this at all, it’s vindictive at best

Aye. Quite enjoying the horse punching, barcode wearing arseholes realising they've been shafted by Milan here.

Add Milan to the list of clubs not to buy from, along with Bayern and Real

Do you think Milan knew about Tonali's gambling addiction and covered it up to sell him before the news came out?

If they didn't know there's been no shafting and Milan just got lucky but if they did know, it would be scandalous to say the least.

Dining out in westherspoons and betting on his own team. Turns out Tonali is a bit of a legend.

Should have been banned for booking a table at spoons really, that's the worst crime.

I’m sure Newcastle first went for Barella who also has been linked to the betting app. I reckon both Milan clubs tried to sell these players because they knew all about it.

Can Milan release details of an investigation not made public?

Homesick, doping, betting. It's tough to buy from the Serie A :nervous:

To be fair to them they seem more determined to enact proper punishment over there than the other leagues. Can’t imagine what happened to Juventus happening to City or Barcelona

I did think Milan selling this guy was strange. One of their own and their poster boy. Won them a league for the first time in years, He also didn’t seem overly keen to leave either. Maybe they knew something already and cashed out asap. Wouldn’t surprise me.

welcome, Newcastle. To how you get treated when you got money. Welcome to the shitty press and constant BS.

Maybe the EPL should he serie an officials to investigate their league too. Might actually see something happen for once

I've worked in Italian companies and there was open rule breaking, which was generally accepted until people got caught, then the consequences were often severe. It seemed they often inflated punishments through annoyance that people were daft enough to get caught.

I mean if the end product is an appropriate punishment then fair enough. I was more trying to draw the comparison that I expect nothing to happen to city

Keep banning players and Serie A is gonna have to become a five-a-side competition at this rate

Milan knew what was going down and got rid.
The only surprise is, with our luck recently, that we actually didn't end up with him.

Couldn't put a finger on it beforehand but something was definitely off about Tonali's move to Newcastle, from the odd circumstances of the move to Tonali's seemingly meek reponse. This explains it.

It definitely felt off at the time. Of course, Newcastle would be paying him much higher wages, but it still felt a strange move. You don't see many Italian players leaving a city like Milan (and Nona's home cooking) for a city like Newcastle.

Remember the time Fergie got rid of Stam rather bizarrely who subsequently failed a drugs test pretty soon after joining Lazio, was that us dodging a bullet there like Milan are accused of here?

If Milan somehow knew about this and then decided to sell him to to Newcastle for 70m before he was caught, it’s as shitty as it’s genius

There were some reports at the time that he was forced out of the club. The presumption was that Milan needed the money (or that 70m was simply an offer too good to refuse) but yes, maybe it related to this instead.

Yeah the more you begin to learn about the story the more it doesn't pass the sniff test.

Milan knew what they were doing...it's only funny because it happened to Newcastle and Howe

If Newcastle could prove Milan knew, could Newcastle sue Milan or something?

They might.

But lets be honest if Milan knew, they've played this perfectly. He goes there, they get a pile of money, he gets banned, falls out of favour at Newcastle and they can swoop in next year and they can take him back on loan for next to nothing.

It'll probably back fire and he'll fulfill his destiny to be Pirlo Mk2 and end up at Juve.

Tonali is likely to receive a very lengthy ban exceeding the 7 months handed to Fagioli recently.

This has come as part of a wider investigation into illegal betting firms in Italy (not licenced) and it came to light some footballers had been placing bets with them. Footballers in Italy are banned from betting on any form of football .

The 3 cases against Zaniolo, Fagioli and Tonali are all slightly different. It appears Zaniolo has placed some bets with illegal firms but none of them were on football so he will likely only receive a fine. Fagioli admitted to betting on football and was handed a 7 month ban. Tonali on the other hand has admitted to betting on football AND games involving his own clubs, which carries a much higher penalty. So it's highly likely he will receive a very lengthy ban!

It will be a big blow for Newcastle although they might now try to sign another player in January given the above situation.

“tonali available after a difficult couple of weeks.” nice to know even the pros know how shit it is trying to care about an acca during international break.
