He was superb. Besides for two bad shots he didn't put a foot wrong. His pass and movement is fantastic and he presses hard in defence. Was extremely pleased with his performance.

Superb game from him today. Could be the start of something great for us. Hope he can keep it going :)

him and Anderson were fecking immense!! brilliant CM performance!!

Another good half from this young duo. Excellent display from Cleverley. Very impressive. Ando do the long range passes and Clev take care of the tic tac and we have a dynamic and dangerous midfield.

They must IMO be considered as first choice MF ATM.

Aside from his ball use and movement, he even does well in winning the ball back in midfield. So much to love about what he's shown us so far.

Great, mature performance. I have to say, I never saw that coming from him, playing as a all-action central midfielder. His defensive work today was great, won the ball a number of times and picked the forward pass to set us off.

His pass-and-move-style fits the team really well, we're never likely to be as static and restricted in midfield as we were at times last season if Tom and Anderson starts centrally. He always shows for the ball, and he's actually got a nice range of passing.

What I truly liked about his performance was how he kept simple and quick.A simple control and a simple pass.
It's amazing how football can be beautiful when it's played simply.Great match from him.He completely ate Yaya Toure defensively too

Wesley Who?

We should keep the fecking money really. All you need is a player who will pressure and also take care of the ball. Wesley is of course better than Cleverly at the moment, but Cleverly can do the job for us. Plus I love it love it love it when our yoof stay in the team, very important for our stability and tradition.

When Carrick was playing our midfield was so static, with the introduction of Cleverley it changed our play completely plus Anderson started to dominate too.

Agree with this. I think there's a segment of fans who are so desperate for a youth player to make it that they're irrationally hyping the lad up beyond his abilities.

I think some people think too much? :p

Not to feed the hype because there's so much around Cleverley, but he made a big difference when he came on. And both he and Anderson did themselves proud with their pass selection in the second half

Doesnt look like your typical 'Scottie Parker' English midfielder with yer 'blood, guts and thunder'. Seriously impressive performance with Anderson in there.

OK, I'm officially excited about him.

He really changed the game, made a big impact today. His passing was neat and crisp, he was energetic and tracked back to make life difficult for the opposition as well. Great display.

Very encouraging performance. I am not surprised Cleverly put in a performance like that as he is well rounded player, however, to do it in a high profile game in his first competitive start to the season, is abit of a surprise and is encouraging.

He needs to be in pit perspective mind you. He's a talented youngster who is a class above Gibson and improves our squad as a result but he's going to take time to develop into the very good player he has the potential to be.

His rate of development over the last few years has been incredible to watch, I don't think I've ever seen such glaring and rapid improvement than with him.

After watching what Carrick contributed first half to what Jones and Cleverley produced in the second, do you still think Wesley Sneijder is what we need?

I thought he changed the game in that our forwards were playing well but he was getting the ball to them much quicker than was happening in the first half.

Two things that have always stood out for me about Cleverley are his tenacity and his intelligence. Everyone who has ever worked with him at United and the clubs he has been to on loan has spoken about how hard he works to improve and how open his ears and eyes are.

When I was reading interviews with him speaking about how he used the Champions League final to study Iniesta and Xavi how he's been working to model his game after them I thought to myself: this lad has something. Everywhere he's gone he's been willing to learn, he studies the game, he analyses where he's weak and he works to overcome those gaps.

When you have that ability to learn and you couple it with a determination to work hard success will follow.

I think Cleverley on for Carrick was the big difference maker for us. Tom looked so sharp on the ball, passed it about really quickly and got stuck in as well. One of our best players, imo.

This isn't an anti-Carrick post, by the way, I understand that he was carrying a knock.

Good show, have my hopes up for the lad, hope he manages to put in some consistent perfomances this season.
I still think SAF might consider Carrick ahead of him, but now he's got a proper headache all right. :)

The last time I was this excited about a young player who looked like he might grow up to be the box to box player we needed, was about Possebon, till he got done in by Pogatetz..

So good in tight spaces, if he improves on his end product a bit the sky is the limit for him.

Phenomenal performance today. In my eyes the jury is out on him - he certainly has something special but whether it's enough for United is another matter. He's certainly gone a long way to answering his critics today though.

What a phenomenal performance from him. His passing was excellent, workrate was brilliant. He was awesome.

What critics? Has he any? He is a youngster coming through and i would argue over the last 2 years that today was as complete a midfield performance as we have seen from a Utd midfielder. Anderson against Blackburn was great too though.

Good QUICK decision-making.

By contrast I thought that Ashley Young seemed to dither and was a step slow in his thinking. But Cleverley didn't hesitate. He could have had more composure when trying to snatch at a shot in the second half, but it is better to be confident and quick than to fail to even take the chance to shoot (as Carrick did early in the first half).

The thing for me is that he was against the strongest CM in the league. He won't be coming up against players like Toure every week, so his influence can only increase.
