New contract for him?

I thought you were kidding! Chicharito didn't get a new deal till the end of the season! Hard to imagine he's made an even bigger impression, already, than the Little Pea.

Was his deal up soon?

Great news, of course, though I think he's the sort that is going to stay here as long as he's wanted.

Excellent news. Can't we have a news sub forum where people on post news links? No one is going to bother clicking on this thread to find out that so and so thinks Carrick is better than Cleverley in defence but this is much more important.

You know what I mean. Anyway excellent news.

That's the problem with "megathreads".

News like this was worthy of starting a new thread. For some reason people are really reluctant to start new threads, which means genuinely interesting updates get lost in all the waffle of massive threads.

It's annoying but not a lot mods can do about it. People just need to show a bit more balls and start more new threads.

The interesting thing of course is we have people saying calm down alittle and then within days the club gives him a new contract. Footballs a funny old game

Isn't it just? You must have been very excited when the club gave Michael Carrick a new contract, just 6 months ago, right?

What's carrick got to do with Cleverlys contract 8 or so games into the season? By the way Carricks been here 6 years and Cleverlys been in the first team five minutes....

As for Carrick, my thoughts on Carrick are opinion just like yours are. Is that simple enough for you to understand without trying to do whatever it is you do because you're incredibly childish? For a Dr, you don't half worry me.

Personally I can't wait to see him back in the team. We've given him a massive vote of confidence this season and the signs so far have been very promising.

For a short while at least, he helped to increase the fluency of our game.

Chicharito was probably already on a decent contract while Cleverley probably wasnt. Not much to do with imressions made i reckon.

Good to hear he has signed on for another five years. Its a good incentive for the others to perform well because they will see that good performances for your team will not go unrewarded.

I know! What's Fergie playing at making this kind of statement?:

Tom is one of the brightest prospects in the English game...for a young boy, he has a good footballing brain which, when coupled with his energy and ability, makes for a player with a fine future ahead of him.--Sir Alex Ferguson

Think of the pressure its putting on Cleverley especially when he's only played a handful of games for us. Really people like Ferguson, Scholes and so on really need to calm down about Cleverley and remember that for the first hour against Spurs he was quiet as a mouse... :p:wenger:

But we usually do contracts during the off season, as I recall. It reminds me of Chicharito because, as he was just in his first year anyway, there was really no need to sign him to a new deal, objectively. For the club, why not enjoy the cheap wages while they're still around, if he's good he'll be getting his raise soon enough.

But then another club comes in and lets him know they'd double his wages and, for some players, that might get into their head, so clubs give out raises to attempt to preempt a transfer.

I wonder if it isn't because of the call up to the England team, because that tends to shoot a player's value through the roof, whether it's reasonable or not.

Imagine if Jordan Henderson had been part of a team that beat Arsenal 8-2, young English talent is insanely overvalued.

You seem to be confusing the words "with a fine future ahead of him" with "who we are utterly dependant on already".

I don't think anyone on here would disagree with the former, however it's the minority that keep implying the latter who really need to calm down.

He's done well so far. He certainly deserves to remain at OT.

07 seems to be one of those new generation of fanboys of specific players who see anything other then effusive praise as being criticism.

God forbid anyone to urge caution when a player has barely made 5 competitive starts for a team...

Of course I am... :wenger:

What I particularly like is how many people Cleverley has already proved wrong. Every summer these days we have a ridiculous transfer saga last year there were almost tears for Benzema cos we only bought Chico. So yes partly in response I backed Hernandez to the hilt and yes in response to Sneidjermania I am backing Cleverley and loving how well he's doing. Why should we not believe him? Wilshere's younger and if you ask me there aint that much between them. If we'd have signed someone unproven like Ganso for £20m every touch would be getting salivated over. Why should I not big Cleverley up especially when ex reds and the Boss are lining up to do so?

It seems a bit odd to back a player just because of what people write/say in the transfer speculation. Had you actually seen him play before this season?

As most level-headed posters are saying, he's had a decent start, but so far he's proven nothing. Assess him at the end of the season, not after a few games.

Is he back in training yet? The article says he is fighting to be fit for Liverpool but I have not heard anything about him returning back to training yet.

No of course I'd never seen him play only started watching United yesterday... :wenger:

He's only played 4 competitive games for United and those were this season. Other then that he's only featured in a handful of pre season friendlies for the first team or else it's been reserve and academy football and I can't recall you paying much attention (ie posting) in those threads.

That's what I was thinking , however, having not heard anything subsequent to signing his new deal,I can only imagine he got injured again in Gill's office

Think Cleverley will start. He would have stayed behind this week with the international break and done a lot on fitness training and it would just be like Fergie to have that card up his sleeve going into the game. I hope he does, i think he 's such a class player and will eventually see out his career in the Scholes/Xavi role.

Wait. How does this mean he's not playing against City? Rio's not travelling either.

Pretty obvious buddy. He won't have had any games which are needed for match fitness at this level since his injury. He could be considered as a sub at best.
