Its a times like this you can empathise with the likes of Cantona who used to lose it now and again on the pitch and last out. When you have the likes of Vinny Jones and "Razor" Ruddock and Kevin "I'm so f'n hard" Davies trying to take you out it'd be difficult to not wanna respond in kind...

United have had a few players who didn't mind getting stuck in.

I think you are overreacting a little. It's pretty obvious you are a Cleverley fanboy, but it was a poorly judged tackle with no real malice in it.

Davies isn't really a malicious player, he is overenthusiastic and physical but no more.

Cleverley will be unlucky if he has broken a bone, but it wasn't career threatening in any way. The tackle on Evra was far worse.

don't agree with that at all mate, he's always been the same, fouling from start to finish.

From his Facebook update..

"Got the scan tomorrow, thanks for the comments! so angry right now, want everyone to know I got no apology from kevin davies! season could be over and received no apology."

He didn't capitalise Kevin Davies' name, the motherfecka's pissed!

Truth is, any mature footballer knows the rule about tackling from behind. Regardless if he intended a foul or not, Davies should have received a yellow card at best.

Malicious = intent to harm a player. I don't think he is that kind of player at all.

When your intention is to kick people, as he's made it clear he does, then somebody getting hurt is inevitable. He thinks that kicking players is an acceptable form of stopping them and as far as I'm concerned that's malicious.

No, his intention is to impose his physicality on the opposition to put them off their game. He's a limited player, it's his way of making an impact. He's not malicious.

By 'impose his physicality' you mean kick people. I would think it's generally accepted that if you kick people there's a pretty good chance sometimes they're going to get hurt. Like I said as far as I'm concerned any player who goes out with the plan to kick his opponent out of the game is malicious.

His lack of an apology also gives weight to the suggestion that he's a prick.

Out for the season!? A broken foot is a serious injury but surely he faces only 2-3 months out?

No I don't. He backs in, bundles into people, gets stuck in.

Sometimes you don't get a chance to apologise, it didn't look too bad at the time, and he didn't even get booked.

It's just unfortunate for Cleverley, although you can understand why he's pissed off as he's just establishing himself at United and he's probably going to be out for 2-3 months.

Doubt his season could be over - if it's a broken bone, we are looking at around a two-month lay-off for the lad.

Such a shame!

Here it is (and the Evra one)

You can seen he's trying to nick the ball around the side of him. It looks like he may have caught his foot with his trailing leg.

re the Evra one, it was more badly timed then anything else, Evra was too quick for him, although he didn't need to go to ground. Definite booking though.

He doesn't just "bundle into people" though, does he?

It did look bad at the time. He came in from the back and got nothing of the ball. It was the sort of tackle FIFA tried to get rid of some WCs back when they told ref to send off players for tacking from behind. They're very dangerous and Cleverley's injury just underlines that.

That's why i mentioned 3 things, did you purposely ignore the other 2?

Look at the video, it was more from the side then anything. In general the worst injuries seem to come from the more innocuous looking challenges.

Davies has a habit of targeting the smaller players though. Over the years he has particularly targeted Evra. Why? If he's such a hard nut why don't we remember more confrontations between him and Vidic? I can remember plenty of times Vida going toe to toe with Drogba why cant I remember that about him and Davies?

Davies acts like a tough nut but really he can only throw his weight around against players who are weaker than himself. There are some big lads in the Premier League like Kenwyne Jones, Emile Heskey etc whose game is to make it hard for the centre half how is it they don't end up with half as many fouls against them as Davies? Davies goes around picking on people smaller than him, leaving the foot in to try and intimidate people he thinks are weak. Too bad for us today his target was Cleverley.

There's a difference between backing into people and kicking them. He does both and it's the repeated kicking of people I have a problem with. Someone posted his foul stats in the other thread and it doesn't surprise me one bit that he's miles ahead of anyone. Anyway this is way off topic.

if evra has not jumped out of the way, he could easily also have his foot broken. he can't possibly stay on his feet when davies trailing leg was flying in.

I am certain we will have one of our lads give the needed pay back at Old Trafford ;)

Really? Wonder why they scrapped that?

I think they decided to make it the ref's discretion whether it's a dangerous tackle or not, irrespective of the angle... so there's no need to penalise, say, a defender who nicks it away from between the striker's legs when the striker's back's turned to him, but without going to ground.

Your point's still valid because 90% of the time tackles from behind are penalised, and players know this.

This is why players shouldn't be allowed to tweet. Understandable that Tom's angry but Davies might well have apologised within a few hours, give the bloke a chance to get out the shower. This sort of stuff shouldn't be done in public.

I agree. Can't be seen whining on facebook. You look like a child.

Don't forget he pretty much is. He only just turned 22 which in many places in the world means he's only been considered a legal adult for 12 months. You can't always expect a mature reaction from someone so young regardless of how well they kick a ball around a pitch. We have no idea what his injury is like and he's probably fretting that even if he does come back someone will have taken his spot and he'll have little chance of proving he deserves it again. Can't blame him for being emotional. Did you see Sir Alex on MUTV? He looked totally gutted even though we won 5-0 and the Cleverley tackle was the first thing he spoke about.
