If Levy really wants Van Dijk money then Alderweireld will stay where he is, of course most likely is that in the last week he'll sell him to a club like Inter for half the price.
Not a chance. We refused to pay £48m for Perisic last year and I think we'll stick to our guns. He might be our first choice but we have options.
I see Glastonbury is peddling the laughable notion that clubs decide where players go, not the players themselves.
Toby will go where he wants. The buying club simply has to match the best offer - if that even.
The idea you can “ship him abroad” is ridiculous.
This is true for any club or player. The idea that Spurs are the exception is hilarious.
Looked a fair bit better than Vertonghen yesterday.
Still think if not for the Levy factor this would be an excellent deal for all parties. But if I were United I would go down 2 roads:
1. Tell his people that we're keen, will offer him a huge f*cking salary but he has to put in a formal transfer request
2. Don't bother and move onto other targets
If Toby is that keen on a move to us than 1 shouldn't be a problem, especially as he's been benched for a year. Not sure why he'd have much loyalty to Spurs.
Can't remember the last time a player submitted one. Mahrez maybe?Probably for his loyalty bonus payment, that's the main reason we don't see a lot of transfer requests being handed in.

From his view, there's really no point for him making a request. He can leave for peanuts next year. The ball is firmly in Spurs' court.
Still think it will be done around that as well. Spurs might also be trying to get someone in before selling.Unless he signs a new contract I still think he will be sold, I wouldn’t have a problem selling him domestically for the right amount, in or around £50M.

be thrilled with Maguire
Immense tonight comfortably outshining Kompany and Vertonghen, Looking forward to seeing him in a red shirt in August (I hope)
Dear God, no.
He’s looked very good for England this WC and has been good for Leicester as well. I would prefer Maguire over Jones and Lindelof for sure.
Not been impressed with his performance tonight and generally been average in the world cup.

He is good, but you see the difference between true elite in Varane and very good in Alderweireld.
Without a doubt, Varane was/is something else.He is good, but you see the difference between true elite in Varane and very good in Alderweireld.
If Mourinho has anything about him he should go for McGuire rather than Toby aka Smalling.
What? Varane has been class as well but what exactly has he done that's been so much better?
What?!Reminds me of Smalling....Good in the air but a donkey on the deck.
Just feel that he is a stronger and more dominant defensive presence. Much quicker, better in the air, more of a natural leader. Alderwerield is better in a 2 than a 3 to be fair, no CB likes being drawn into those wide positions. However I am not sure that he is at the level he was 2 years ago before his injuries, he seemed to get the label of best defender in the league while injured, have not see that at the elite level from him, tail end of the CL or in international tournaments.
Varane is better with the ball at his feet, biggest difference for me.
Which is strange considering that one of the things that Alderweireld gets most praised for is his passing and ability to play from the back. He can pick out a great pass given time and space, but different challenge when being pressed and harried, that is where Varane is clearly superior(as a ball player)
