Toby Alderweireld

I really think you'd be dodging a bullet with this one - such a significant injury at his age is something to be wary of, and he really did not look like the same assured defender many have come to expect of him when he returned at the end of the season. Of course, he could come back stronger after the summer (though the World Cup might not help), but he's by no means the sure-fire success a bunch of people here seem to rate him as; I'd suspect he'd be more likely to end up as another Sanchez-esque expensive mistake.
Sanchez a mistake?
He's been here 6 months, just give him some time.
Even if he doesn't come good, it was never a mistake to get rid of a player you do not want for a player who was till last season considered one of the best players in the league.
He looks supremely fit, hasn't had any serious injuries nor is he injury prone and above all he gives 100% every time he plays
Not to mention it stopped City from adding another WC Forward to an already impressive front 4.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but Sanchez was by no means a mistake

I think everyone involved in this - Spurs, Toby, United, other clubs ... are waiting to see how he looks at the World Cup. He hasn't been the same player since his knee injury in 2016-17 season and so a big WC where he looks fully fit and in good form will grease the skids for a transfer.

As for his future at Spurs, I think the writing has been on the wall since last summer. Davinson Sanchez wasn't the club record signing (and now sporting a shiny new 6 year contract) to sit on the bench. For whatever reasons (lack of pace in the back 4, worry over his injuries, etc) it appears Pochettino decided to start moving on from Alderweireld starting at the end of the 16-17 season. And Pochettino has a bit of the Ferguson about him ... once he's ready to move on from you, that's how it is. He doesn't seem particularly fussed at all about what happens with Alderweireld.
We played a 3 a lot when all fit so Davison was not going to be sitting on the bench regardless of Toby staying or going, if he does leave I imagine we will spend big on another CB to replace.

How's the search for a better CB than Toby going?

Re. Toby, you should be aware that the transfer window for Prem clubs shuts on August 9. However, the window for overseas clubs remains open until the end of August. This is something that I imagine figures into Levy's thinking, namely that if United don't offer a deal to his liking before the Prem window shuts he'll still have time to sell him outside the Prem if he wishes.

I wouldn’t worry about it - have Spurs signed anyone yet? I’m pretty sure Ed Woodward is aware of the end date of the transfer window.

Lol and you wonder why people 'dislike' you here!

Regarding the transfer window end dates, If the teams abroad know that no English teams can buy after 9th and that Toby wants to leave isn't that a sweet deal for them and not Spurs?

So everything that Poch didn't want then?
Can't wait until that annual bad start that handicaps your entire season

You really don’t have much going on in your life do you? Try picking up a new hobby or something? Just something to pass the time other than sprouting rubbish on forums that is.

You think Levy will be eagerly awaiting a time where the major interest in a player who doesn't want to be at your club is forceably ended, thereby narrowing the market reducing competiton?

People just shouldn't reply to him, he ruins threads.
Toby is playing well in this match, but if us and Spurs can't agree on a fee, we'll have to look elsewhere, neither side will likely lose sleep over it.

Toby can sit on the bench and wait till Jan.
Or next summer.:)

How's the search for a better talent than Martial going?

Re. Martial, you're not signing him

How does stating a fact + asking a question equate to "sprouting rubbish"?

The differential transfer window closing dates is a relevant factor.

That puts you in a shit position, which you don't seem to realise.

Re. Martial, you're not signing him

Well, who knows. There's quite a strong rumour that he visited our training centre a short while ago.

That puts you in a shit position, which you don't seem to realise.

But it doesn't. It provides Spurs with further options that wouldn't exist if the two windows shut simultaneously.

That's not the only implication of what I posted. Another implication is that it reduces any pressure on Levy to accept a deal from United that's not to his liking.

You mental? Reducing the size of the market to sell your want away player to isn't a good thing.

If you mean that allows foreign clubs to low-ball you by offering less than EPL clubs had, that's true, certainly a viable option.

So he'll be forced to accept a deal from another club with less financial clout, in a smaller, less competitive market. Genius!!!

How's the search for a trophy going?
Better training ground
Net spend
Best Stadium in PL
Finish ahead of United 2 of the last 4 seasons.
Performed better than United in the CL even thought they got knock out the same round as us.

Who needs trophies.

Depends on what you mean by "low-ball". I'm sure Levy would be quite happy to sell Toby abroad for a few millions less than any Prem offer.

I know for a fact Neymar was at your training center many times, perhaps you're signing him.

Lol … yes, the entire Brazilian squad was in residence at our training centre.

Tbf they might be better selling him abroad for 35mil than to a rival for 50mil.

Looking back Chelsea would have been better off selling Matic abroad for a lot less than 40mil to a rival.

But I have a feeling like Matic he wants to come here.

He's really wonderful with the ball at his feet. His passing is excellent.

Very true.

I like to think of it like wining and dining Monica Belluci only for her to end up in your neighbour's bad.

At least you paid for her lunch.

Why not accept that now then?
This reasoning doesn't make sense

Accept what now? The end of August is ages away. And meanwhile Toby is at the World Cup, in the shop window.

Of course it can make sense to lose a few million rather than strengthen a rival.

With no pressure on him he has the accuracy of a good midfielder, but when the pressure is on him as a cb he isn't as cool as some would have you believe. I don't mind it tbh but people will complain if they think he won't pass back to De Gea or sideways like our current cb's, when pressured.

Hypothetically Levy is happy to accept 10m less from abroad:

United offer 60m, Levy rejects.
Aug 9 passes
Juve offer 40m...

The EPL window closes and what happens?
Barca aren't spending big on a CB, Madrid doesn't seem to be Linked at all.
Let's say its PSG and they look around and have no competition for the signature.
You've given them all the power. They won't be raising their bid since they would have already if they really wanted him.
If foreign clubs are waiting for EPL clubs to sit out then they're not going that high anyway.
It makes no sense.
What you're saying is Spurs are better off without an auction which is a ridiculous statement to make

Well that team won't be offering £35mil, knowing Spurs aren't going to accept a rival offer regardless of the size of the offer.
