Thomas Muller

You could also look at the other names that are on there. Britton's passing was talked about a lot but look where he is.

And for all we know it may be sublime. He plays for Swansea, the people at the end of the potential assists matter!

But there isn't just anyone who can make that list and be high up. It's just another way to look at how many assists Muller gets per season. He's got impressive stats for a footballer, never mind a 22 year old one.

I agree, but I would much rather see the usual run-of-the-mill passing stats comparing players in equivalent positions. Much less "noise" there.

I think he would be pretty handy, don't get me wrong, but we have more pressing needs.

We know he isn't. He's efficient with his passing. Just like William Kvist is and many other players who play it smart but lack creativity for a team that plays possession football.

To me Muller is very much like Welbeck, the quintessential modern forward who can play in a number of positions and has intelligence, control and movement. I think Welbeck might add a bit more pace/power in the next few years and be the better player in the long run.

My current favorite player not playing for United. Agree that he does the simple thing really well. Pace is just above average, dribbling is so and so, but his vision and football intelligence is fantastic. Seems to be 2-3 steps ahead everyone else when he got the ball.

But he needs a team and a system that takes advantage of his strengths. Germany and Joachim Löw does and really fares well with it - van Gaal for sure did - but Heynckes is no modern coach - even if he loves the club he might need to go to develop further. That is probably why he did the interview.

But Bayern will not let him go. You do not let a player like him go - he is the poster boy of the club because of his character and prominence - in Germany and especially in the Asian markets.

You're saying he's gotta bitta Jesus about him?

Thinkin the same thing meself as it happens!

Well, come into the transfer forum expecting muppetry galore and instead I see that it has morphed into the CE forum and also PeterStorey is praising a United player. Two firsts there.

Well Bungalow Bill is giving us thoughts on the complexities of identity on the modern world. I tend not to bum Man Utd players' loaves since there are plenty at it already. If you look careful you'll see no slagging of Giggs, Scholes, Ferdinand et al. What grips my shit is bollox like 'Rafael is the best RB in the PL'.

Sounds like an odd one, I can only assume they'd be offering a fair old wad of cash as well as Dzeko.

Would not like to see him at City, he is fantastic.

Personally dont rate him.

He isnt fast enough or tricky enough to be a proper winger, and doesnt seem clinical enough to be a proper striker.

Could be a decent 2nd striker for somebody but apart from work ethic he doesnt impress me that much. Hes the german james milner in my eyes

How would his situation be any different at City than it is at Bayern? City also have established players who play in positions that he normally operates in and he's unlikely to usurp any of them?

You really should watch him alot more. He has alot of quality.

Jesus Christ, the German Milner? He's in a completely different class.

His game's not about pace. He's a 'five seconds in his head' type player, like Sheringham.

For his age and for what he's already accomplished, I cannot understand how Thomas Muller cannot be rated highly. He's a great young player.
@Adam: He should really re-evaluate your opinion of him

I think he's quality. He'd be a great signing for them.

Him and Robben fell out badly. Ever since he lost his place to
Robben earlier in the season he was not the same. He seemed unhappy.

Did not have to do much with Robben. He seemed to be unhappy since Robben was injured and he was stashed to the right in a system where the left side was so overloaded and for him - a player that likes to combine and is not a player who is into 1and1s and dribblings - had to hold the side and could not play out his strengths. The right position at Bayern cannot be compared with that of Germany. Him and Robben seemed to be very tight this season. You remarked it a lot on the views they exchanged and I have never seen Robben being as enthusiastic about another ones successes as when Müller scored. And Robben needs Müller for his play as he is the player he connects most to and who often creates the holes he needs for his shots. Robben was never in his career as evective as he was with Müller next to him in the seasons 09/10 and 10/11. Watch the scene of this following goal - yes, Robben is the won that does the goal - but he uses the hole Müller creates with his run...

That is just an example - but there is a lot situations like this.

His three professional seasons so far:
09/10 - 66 matches, 25 goals, 21 assists, 5023 minutes played
10/11 - 58 matches, 21 goals, 22 assists, 4680 minutes played
11/12 (so far) - 63 matches, 14 goals, 29 assists, 4600 minutes played

He had a shooting crisis this season in which he barely did not get a goal from September to February - without this he probably would have 5 to 10 more goals this season.

He is 22, has 28 caps, 32 CL matches and 112 Bundesliga matches played. I do not know anyone of the young players that can beat that. And it is not easier to score in a system where you have to play with Ribery and Robben - they do not give you the ball you have to fight for it...

What really is exceptional is his play without the ball. He blocks defenders, fools them with his runs, has an instinct when to run into the box and when to stop it - Gomez never scored when he was not somewhere near the box.

For a lot of Bayern fans it is his character that counts. He does not give up easily and will fight. He is the one for the cold and rainy Tuesday nights at Stokes...

Oh, yes, Müller has bad matches - but even in this bad matches you know that he is working his ass off.

I'd hate it if he goes to City. Few young players I've rated as him since I started watching football. He's got all the qualities to stay in the game as long as our old boys have. Such an intelligent player.

Great post. He's achieved a lot at a very young age. I really like him. He's not flashy but he's an extremely intelligent football who scores goals as well.

:wenger:

why is this in the transfer forum, we have no chance of getting him, have we been even linked?

Loved that piece - and it shows how special he is. I like that I am not the only one that thinks like this. It is easy at the players where you can see it at the first view - but here you have to have a second and third.

But that part of the forum is wrong for him - he will not transfer. Bayern recently prolonged his contract until 2017 and Hoeness told last month that he thinks that he (and Lahm and Neuer) would be great in the Bayern management in 5 or 10 years. Both dates might be to early for him but it shows a lot when Hoeness says that about a 23-year-old.
