Blatantly pinched this thread from the newbies. Credit to some bloke called "Novi" for finding the article in Bild.

I wonder what role Fergie had in mind for him?

Maybe ballboy? Maradona seemed to have him down as one in that press conference.

I don't see him as a Welbeck or a Berbatov type player - I think if Fergie was interested it would be because he'd fit in with United's style by being flexible and able to play anywhere up front and able to rotate positions.

I'm not really a huge fan so I'm glad we didn't get him.

Just read that he's not very happy with his Bayern situation and that he's considering his future. I'll let the muppets on here digest that and spin it our of control.

Can only be one destination.....to replace fatso and chelski.

He's one of those very efficient players but isn't he coming off the back of a bad season? There is only one player we need from bayern at the moment anyway

I understand that he's not happy. He's not really a #10 who can play between the lines and link midfield and attack. Kroos is better suited to that role. While on the right side he's competing with Robben who just extended his contract. Strange situation tbf. Bayern youth product who is top class but he's not starting. If I were Bayern, I'd sell Robben. Inter is sniffing around already (for Müller that is).

Why ? He's been awful for Bayern this year.

Why? He's a top talent. Thought after his WC golden boot he'd be at Bayern forever. He's played every league game since he was promoted to the Bayern first team. He's constantly on form for Germany. Can play many different positions.
Did you watch Bayern much at all? His awful form resulted in similar record that Welbeck got who's supposedly brilliant. His goals and assist go hand in hand. He pretty much will provide something if you use him. And he's only 22.
Would cost a fortune I imagine. If not you'd be silly not to take part in the race for his signature at least. The guy is NEVER injured.

I've never been involved in muppetry, but what I'd give for him at United. I overate him a lot but I love him.

I was at the Audi Cup in 09, as a young lad called Muller scored 2 against AC Milan. Obviously we asked the locals round us who he was, and they all raved about him and his performances for the youth teams etc. Next big thing. Followed him that year and then obviously he won the Golden Boot at the World Cup where he became well known outside Germany.

Top, top talent. Plus I love most things German, would love a German at United.

Awesome player, but if Inter is interested that's where he'll end up. All great Germans go to Inter if they go abroad.

He has not been awful for Bayern - not if you look right into his game. He had a shooting crisis from August to about March in which he just did not get much into the goal - a lot of forwards etc. have this sometimes - but he is second in assists in the league. Usually he has about as much goals as assists - but this year he just had 10 goals and 20 assists in all club competitions - that is still a number most players never get - and playing between Robben and Ribery certainly does not help his numbers as they work on own account... In the national team he had 3 goals and 9 assists this season in 613 minutes playing time - against decent opponents, no San Marino, VAE or Liechtensteins. He actually had as much scorerpoints (assists and goals) as Ribery for Bayern this season (who is told to have had a great season) - if you only take the results until a 2-goal-lead and forget all about the showoffs / and he is Bayern's best in scorerpoints in away matches, where the team really had problems this year.

But - he is nobody you can praise for the usual skills - he is only an average player in this. And as a lot people just watch the ball action they do not really see what gem he really is - there is no similar player to him, nobody that is such good without the ball. He can use zones better that anybody else, can fool opponent players with not important runs or move his fellow players can take advantage of - or opens spaces for others to move in - or holes to shoot through - he is permanently in move and is just always half a second faster than anybody else in thinking - and he can make a system like this very unpredictable. But - he needs a system that can really take advantage of it - Özil and Klose and the German team with its young players can - there he is very important. At Bayern you have have this great stars Robben and Ribery and a static forward in Gomez - they are great but want to do their own thing - so Müller is only in a support role. He can drive you nuts with his own ball actions - they go from genius to donkey - but he always offers a lot more than this. He was somehow in all of the goals for Bayern this year. Gomez does not score when he is not somewhere near. And Robben does his great matches next to him whereas he never shines with Kroos as CAM.

But - apart from all of this - the best about him probably is his mentality - and he has balls...

He was very careful in the press not to critisize things to open - but he cannot be at all satisfied with everything in the club this year. He is 22 - he still wants to get better. With Heynckes as coach he will not.

Good player but not a special player imo, don't know where he would fit in here either.

He's a bit like Germans tried to make their own version of Raúl. All the common and simple things in football he is really good at and doesn't mess about with. I mean that in most aspects, he's not a poacher. But their mental game is similar. I've really started to like Muller. Always impressed with him. Also didn't hurt that I put money on him to win the golden boot last WC.

:nono: I'm pretty sure Hitler never went to Inter when he was abroad.

Obviously I mean great as in powerful, important. Not great as in awesome.

We could do with Lahm, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, and Alaba.

He's German. Like Guiseppe Rossi. He was born in one place but claims another.

Actually you are both right.

FROM http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3375877,00.html

The Austrian-born Hitler gave up his Austrian citizenship in 1925 and only obtained German nationality when Nazi officials in Braunschweig secured a position for him as a civil servant in the local administration in late February 1932.

And Muller........Yes please, Im such a muppet for this guy. Dont care where he would play or instead of who.........I want.

We've got a few players in his best positions(s) but I still think he's class.

Özil. Born in Gelsenkirchen. Lived all his life in Germany and Spain. Has a German passport. Only knows Turkey from vacation and stories.

How exactly would you consider him being Turkish? Do you still consider black Americans or black people in England Africans?

besides Dr Dwayne wasn't being serious

Am I the only one who hasn't been overly impressed?

I am not saying he is not a good player.

IMO he is one of the many decent/good players around.

Damn you on your technicalities. Well there is one that would sort out a glaring gap in our squad and that of course is Schweinsteiger. Lahm and Alaba would be nice but in my opinion we need full back cover rather than first teamers. Kroos is potentially very good but the pigmounter is the one for now

He is none for the first view.

In his until now worst season...

He had as much assists to Gomez as Ribery had - but he should have had more - problem is that when he passes from the right Gomez is alone in the penalty box - when Ribery passes from left Müller often takes the attention of Gomez with his runs into the box.

Weird chart, wheres it from?

Mueller averaged 1.8 key passes per match this season, same as Kagawa but thats like joint 17th in the league. A lot of those numbers on the chart are incorrect if its from this past season.

I think it's assists for every 100 passes, which would explain why wingers are higher and midfield tickers are much lower.

Doesn't really tell you much TBH considering different teams having different styles in different leagues. Are Xavi/Iniesta/Cesc jointly as effective as Ozil or do they play in a less direct team? Is Ozil better than Muller or just Ronaldo better than Gomez (probably both in fairness)?

Cabaye appears to be the equal of Pirlo, enough said.

You could also look at the other names that are on there. Britton's passing was talked about a lot but look where he is. The other players on that list are all good players. And Muller stacks up next to them.

That's one way to look at it at least.

Regarding Cabaye vs Pirlo. Juventus are never underdogs whilst Newcastle often are. I'm guessing Juve also had more possession than Newcastle and Pirlo plays further behind than Cabaye. That and what you've already said.

But there isn't just anyone who can make that list and be high up. It's just another way to look at how many assists Muller gets per season. He's got impressive stats for a footballer, never mind a 22 year old one.
