Thomas Muller

He's been really disappointing this tournament. For someone who usually is at the forefront of assists and goals at recent tournaments, he has been a massive let down here.

He's been horrible this tournament (apart from his workrate ofc) yet he completely escapes criticism in Germany so far. Bizarre really.

cant stand him. He is not funny, just a childish, pelutant attention seeking clown with a puncheable face and a big mouth talking shite all the time.

It's easy to see why Bayern fans love him. Not the typical football personally.

And thats what makes him brilliant and likeable in my opinion. Too many footballers are boring. He's not.

I think he's funny too. Also, he'll score at least 1 goal in this tournament. Probably in the final.

He managed to miss a penalty against Oblak. Missed another one yesterday.
Not sure why he took that penalty against Atletico now..

He has just declared that he will not take penalties in regular/extra time anymore for the remainder of the tournament. After that he will rework his approach before he takes up on it again.

This! Did not understand why everyone wanted him at United.

He's criticised a bit, but so far says the right things in interviews and obviously has a lot of credit for his performances in the last 6 years. But yeah, he has been horrible apart from his workrate. I thought he should have been subbed off yesterday in extra time. With Gomez now injured, he really needs to step it up. Gomez has outperformed him by a big margin in the last 2 games.

I joked to someone that Muller was going to miss his penalty and I think Germany shouldn't let him take a penalty until he's broken his duck at the Euros. It's unusual as he's excellent at world cups.

too late now you fecking clown

now madrid are european champions, and you publicly criticized guardiola, but no self awareness...

Well I guess we can take some solace in the fact that it's not just the UK/English media which is guilty acts of gross self-delusion and in some cases outright lies when it comes to assessing the performances of their own high profile players. Listening to the agenda-driven defence of Wayne this tournament (and a good time before that) has made me want to fling my own tv out of the window.

He will probably score a big goal in the next rounds and have a mullergasm, when he scores a big goal his celebration is brilliant but quite annoying too.

One of those players I can understand why Bayern/German fans love him but personally I always thought was a tad overrated.

He seemingly always produces when it matters but I struggle to see what he's really, really superb at. Movement, work rate and intelligence is guess. But like Pogba, I don't really understand the €100m+ valuations.

But I guess if the vast majority always rated him top 3-5 in the world, I must be in the wrong. Also never thought signing him would have solved our issues. We lacked some serious pace and creativity.

Bound to score against France now.

He has been a bit unlucky so far in the tournament, needs to break his duck and I'm sure he'll improve.

I don't think the vast majority rate him top 3-5. He's certainly not that good.

Aye, he's pretty highly rated on this forum i think Bob.

Fair enough. I can see the arguments for top 10, but the top 4 are nailed on and there's quite a few players I'd have ahead of Müller in fifth.

This is something I love about Germany and its footballers. It's such a common sense decision but you'd never hear such a thing happen in England.

Likewise. His consistency over the past few years, for both Bayern and Germany probably cements that top 10 spot with ease. I guess his style is also a bit "ordinary" which might be deceiving me into thinking he's not that special, and tbf, I don't even watch him regularly, outside of international tournaments and the UCL.

But yeah, there are a few players I'd have over him at united as well.

The two things he needs to be an effective scorer are a #9 in front of him and to not have wide playing responsibilites. Gotze starting as a false 9 most of the torunament meant that he would never get the chance to get goals. FOr him to be effective he needs to play behind Gomez. At the WC, he partnered Klose so he was able to run in off him and score his goals.

Taking Messi out of the equation, this boy would be in my top 3 players to sign in the world. Think he's a great player and although he's not had a great tournament, if he was available, I'd go all out to sign him
I agree he's very good, but you'd take him over one of Suarez, Neymar, Ronaldo and Bale (not to mention others, such as Aguero and Griezemann?) I don't think I'd take him over any of those guys (maybe Aguero due to injuries.)

Haven't watched him enough - yesterday he was bit of a cheating cnut (against Chilleini I think?). For some reason, most players dive, play act when they aren't playing well. It's sort of like plan B for them.

Frustration makes you try too hard. At least he didn't headbutt anybody.

He's easily better than Aguero. At his best, he was at least on par with Griezmann.
He was disappointing this tournament though.

Completely different situation. England as a whole were awful, both as a team and individually. Germany are playing reasonably well, plus I think Muller has been playing well also, undoubtedly he can be criticised for not scoring, but he is still working hard for the team and I would not put it past him to score when it matters most -semi's or in the final. I would criticise him only if he looked like he was not bothered like the England team acted. Muller at least works hard and for that reason cannot be faulted. Goals will come so long as he keeps trying.

Better than Aguero at what? Different players that require different teams around them to function effectively. He has been dissapointing to those that don't understand his game. He has done well in the role and task assigned to him. He played well and gotg into better GS positions once Gomez got on the field but now Gomez is oout, I will be surrpised if Muller scores a non penalty goal.

I think you're absolutely right. There is no doubt at all regarding the gulf in quality between the two sides and in respect to Muller and Wayne in a individual sense.

I suppose I was just trying to draw a parallel between how the football media (country of origin notwithstanding) will look to try and protect certain players regardless of their performances.

Although in this case I would entirely agree that Muller is way more deserving of it than Wayne.

Bold statement, mi amigo.

This. I think Aguero is even more lethal although Muller provides the big goals and does way more on the pitch than just score. On the other hand, both are better players than Griezmann, for whom it's still too early days to make any conclusions.

Who are too 4? Messi, Suarez, Ronaldo and ???

Müller just goes through a spell of bad form. He played great all season but ever since the CL exit his form dropped significantly. He still works his ass off though. Well, he'll start scoring again eventually. It's always the same with him. You'd think he's whack and suddenly he'll score or assist the deciding goal. Strange player. With players like Agüero, Hazard, Neymar or De Bruyne it's easy - if they play poor then you might just as well sub them off because they'll just pull the whole team down. Not so much with Müller. Probably because he doesn't demand the ball as much as those 4 do and is able to perform a supporting role on a high level even if his finishing/passing is letting him down at times. I guess that's what intelligent runs can do for you.

To be fair to him, Chiellini was being a moany bastard and dropping to the floor a lot. Muller confronted him playfully and said he needed to stop crying to the floor, and then Muller gave him the taste of his own medicine and did the same and appeared to say "Hey, you do it?".

I like him.

No. He faded drastically as the season went on and there were a few guys who outperformed him.

Lewandowski would be my pick.

Agree that he faded badly but I'd mark him down in terms of who had the best season, for that. When we're talking about best in the world I'd still have Neymar at fourth.

He the most disgusting player I know. At least Dani Alvez and Pepe know they are pricks in the game and stay pricks on their own. Müller on the other hand seems to have gotten away with being rotten even though not only does he whine and dive, but he is also to be found in every free kick situation and every discussion with the ref. He is dispicable... He's boring to watch as a footballer, but mostly effective. When he isn't producing stats his antics become even more noticable. Disgusting, disgusting player.

A acted like a total cnut, even tried his antics with Buffon, but he is simply too likeable.
