To be fair to Ancelotti, both Heynckes and Pep benched Müller in important games in their first season and they all learned that it's better to start him soon enough. Though back then, Müller actually forced their hand by playing great. Right now it looks as if Müller's poor form that started at the beginning of 2016 continues and Ancelotti is right to keep him out of the first 11.

With Heynckes, wasn't it because Kroos got injured? Because I remember Kroos playing as the 10 in that season and the one before.
Kroos' injury happed in Heynckes' second season, but it was Robben, who was usually benched. Until Kroos got injured in the first leg against Juve, we started with Ribery Kroos Müller behind Mandzukic most of the time.
Last thing this club needs is another expensive attacker without pace.
It's not like anyone else is setting the world alight in our offense right now, though (bar the occasional flash of dutch brilliance)...
Lewandowski is playing as well as you can expect from a lone striker in front of a static and disconnected attacking midfield.

Yeah, the number of entertaing matches this season is pretty limited. We're not bad, but usually the games are boring and more and more it's truely unbearable even though we're still quite effective. The winterbreak didn't help, quite the opposite actually. It's gotten even worse than it was in December.
Just a hypothetical scenario, there's no way we are getting him anyway.
