Why waste Kurt's return on this match? I know you can argue that they're wasting The Shield's return on it as well, but it's his first match in WWE in over ten years! Surely it'd make more sense for him to go "OK, they need a partner, SON, GET IN HERE."
 
AJ vs. Finn should actually be a good match, despite the fact that AJ is A) face, B) from Smackdown and C) not possessed by anything.

Kurt is bizarre though. Surely wait till you've got something that you can build to for him? I mentioned Jordan as a potential guy, there's also Matt Hardy who's had history with The Bar. Sure, neither of them have the "pull" of Roman, but Kurt's such a desperation move in the other direction it's silly.
 
Kurt's return they should be hyping up big time for something like Wrestlemania, Jordan or Hardy could have took the place or do some kind of angle with Strowman being injured too making it 2/3 Shield vs Miz and The Bar.
As for AJ Styles coming in, why not Gallows or Anderson. They should refrain from doing the demon since there's no need for it against Styles.

Shame he wasn't saved for a big moment though, they could have hyped the heck out of anything Kurt related.

Poor Finn though he probably wanted this Bray storyline done and dusted its been absolutely shite. It will probably plod on for the coming months now.
 
Two massive things just thrown together. Angle's return to in ring in WWE is as a stand in for someone struck down by illness. AJ vs Balor should have a big build too, maybe tie in that fact that both used to lead the bullet club. It will still be a good match and it makes the card more interesting but god they blow so many good potential storylines for first time matches.
 
AJ V Balor makes no sense but I can’t wait for it. Even if deep down I was looking forward to Sister Abigail

Kurt in for Reigns already makes it a million times better
 
Build doesn't really matter sometimes. I can accept Finn/AJ as a huge exhibition match.

The fans in the arena will too. Both are hugely popular and crazy talented (AJ is BITW) and also, they won't have to put with Wyatt's shit so they'll be ecstatic.

I love Kurt and was hoping to see him return to the ring but not in this cluster of a match. Still, no Reigns and it is Angle so okay.

Shame about AJ, though. He's been given nothing for ages. Should still be the champ.
 
Some of you just have blind hatred for Reigns don't you. Forget that this makes absolutely zero sense and Angle's return should've been done in a better way, no Reigns is amazing isn't it.

Its like there's no one else. No other stars on the roster to replace Reigns? Or show that Reigns and one from the 5 man team have had a big battle backstage and both get injured turning it into a 2v4?

The ppv was built on shield return
Outside of brock returning they needed something big, and something quick
AJ vs Finn will please wrestling fans
Angles return could bring in more subscriptions on a short term

With network being there go to now, savin it for some thing big like rumble or wm which already sells on name isn't the best business strategy

I still think they'll make Shield win, after all the hype and for them to lose straight away would be a big knock down. Plus Angle's back so he'll probably pick up the win. (Unless Triple H costs him).
Asuka v Emma will be a squash match.
 
The Emma/Asuka match is a weird one. If they pushed Emma as they should have then these two could have a great match similar to their takeover one and ultimately a competitive match is what I and a lot of people would prefer to see. However they do nothing with Emma so it would be weird after building Asuka up as an undefeated badass who kills people to then struggle against the woman who barely does anything.
 
subscriber numbers are down, ratings are down. This is the result. Apparently the entire nation of India didn't sign up because some jobber from Canada is WWE Champion.

Don't think they want it to be built as a competitive match. Emma is a jobber who fluked a win so she could be fed to Asuka. It'll be a quick-ish match.

Hope Fox beats Sasha. She is 100x times more entertaining character-wise than "The Boss".

Oh yeah, all they really need from the match is Asuka's entrance, that creepy sexy smile thing she does then follow it up with stiffing the shit out of Emma. I just think it's such a waste of someone with Emma's talent. They would have been better off using Dana Brooke who offers feck all.

Emma isn't being pushed because she couldn't even do that gimmick from last year. She was terrible at rehearsals and wasn't committed to it. So not surprised they are not investing in her.
 
I think tonight may well be like No Mercy 2007, where the WWE will pull out the stops to have an epic show in isolation, but will really not have much legacy afterwards. I expect AJ and Balor to perhaps get +30 minutes of in-ring time alone, and the Angle return will be hyped throughout the evening to feel like a really big deal.

The one where HHH had 3 matches? 2 against Orton and 1 against Umaga? If I remember correctly, they started off with handing Orton the title due to Cena's injury with the whole crowd chanting for Jericho as there were rumours about his return at that time.
 
Yes, I've never gone back to rewatch the show, so memories may not be true, but I remember it as a cool standalone, unique show. The rest of the card was pretty poor, so they had to do something.

You mean the gimmick that they kept running promos for about 15 weeks that it was a running joke to keep it going with no debut. The gimmick they didn't even bother to do rehearsals before running those promos and was a shit gimmick in the first place. And all this when she had a good thing going with the whole Evil Emma gimmick.

No doubt that most of the blame is likely placed on Emma despite the utter idiocy of creative during that whole thing, so yeah it isn't surprising that they don't push her more but that doesn't stop me lamenting them under utilising her just like they under utilise a lot of the roster.

Well what you expect?

If you can't do the gimmick they present you with then you simply will not get pushed. That's how things have worked in WWE.

They had to keep pushing the gimmick back because she wasn't good at it. If they were vindictive they could have gone with a thief gimmick.

Not come up with the gimmick change in the first place that wasn't necessary. I know they say you have to 'turn chicken shit into chicken salad', but how about not giving people chicken shit in the first place. And they didn't push the gimmick back, they just never had debut date planned so just kept running with it because they thought it was funny. It wasn't until close before she actually re-debuted that they actually figured out she couldn't do the gimmick how they intended further highlighting their gross incompetence.
 
That card really is light, especially as the third big match will be a complete squash from Asuka. They could let AJ and Finn do a Cena vs HBK and let them go an hour.
