Things that have improved

People forgot how good Mainoo was? How he own everyone and beat Man City.

I am not arguing, even Sir Alex, Evra and Vidic have all admitted that they didn't hit the ground running and it took them a lot of hard work to get to the desired level.

Agreed, it takes time on training ground sometimes to get up to speed.
But the difference between that time and now is that then the players in the team pushed you hard and one had to really work hard to get into the team. (Both of Vidic and Evra have said so).

This team, who sets the benchmark and who pulls up players who are floundering?

Honestly, the biggest thing that's improved for me is that I now have more free time on the weekends because I can't bring myself to watch this garbage anymore

This I actually used to wake up at 6am sometimes to watch us since I live in the States. Definitely ain’t doing that anymore. If it’s 9:30am game I watch during breakfast for a little while to confirm we are still shit and move on with my day.

You stick through hard times. I went over to the Spurs game (from Ireland). Got a tour package with coach and ferry, it's handier for me with my schedule to do this. We left 4am Sunday morning and didn't get back until 9:45am Monday morning. Pretty much 30 hours of travel for that pathetic attempt of football.

My point being, as a fan and love for the club, that experience is part of it. There's ups and downs.

The best game I was at (not quality or football wise), for the experience aspect, was Ronaldo's return against Newcastle. I paid over the odds for tickets but to me, that trip was worth it. The money didn't matter, the experience of being there at Old Trafford that day. I was talking to a fan that has been everywhere following United and he told me the atmosphere that day was like the Champions League final. You can't explain that buzz.

Don't get me wrong, last week I was quite annoyed over the Spurs game. But now, it's like - there's good times and there's bad times and in a way, I'm happy I witnessed that. I can say I was there at amazing times and awful times and that's part of the experience.

Oh of course if I was living in England I would have been to loads of games even when we have been shit in the last decade.

The only thing that has improved is my concern that this summer transfers was as bad as the rest of Erics transfer windows. We spend 200m+ and somehow looks worse. It´s amazing...

My friend, you might be a 'glass half full' kind of guy. I get it.
But ETH is breaking negative records which our previous managers broke (and got fired for).
Last year was the worst start to an EPL season.
This season, ETH broke that negative record and this season is now our worst start to an EPL season.
We are in 14th.
We struggle to score goals in the EPL.
We have one of the most expensive teams ever assembled.

I'm sorry, but there are no positives. None.

What we are seeing now, is ETH's true level.
The EPL simply isn't for ETH and he should be replaced.

I think the board should announce that this season will be ETH's last season.
Then find a new manager NOW (not next year) and announce when the time comes, who will be managing us next season.
ETH should be allowed to finish this season off, as I don't think a caretaker manager would be any better.
Eric is a dead man walking, and the sooner he goes away the more chance of us catching up with the other top teams.

Surely you have realised by now that the transfers are not the problem, the problem is the manager. A top manager gets the best out of the players available and improves them regardless of who is signed.

Not even close, sorry. What you consider "negativity" is reality nothing else. "There are definitely improvements from last season and we do have hope going forward like a few have mentioned". Of course, this is just self-deception. Numbers never lie, and we're worse than ever. Did you actually know that in the last 19 league matches we got only ridiculous 23 points? So we're just as bad as we were last season. 23 points in 19 matches make 46 for a whole season. That usualy enough for the 15th position. Pathetic, and we have a 870 million euro squad. Searching for improvements while we are one of the worst teams in the league is absolut nonsense, sorry.
The stat that you have pointed out is ridiculous! If you were to ask a City fan at the start of the season how they would realistically like our season to pan out, I doubt even they would think our start imaginable.. I respect your opinion and I do agree for the most part, although I will continue to try and see some good in the bad or I feel I'll just give up the want to keep watching.. For the most part, like you say, it has been pathetic but I'm hoping we'll turn a corner soon. (With or without ETH, whatever that decision will be).

I don't bother with official metrics such as xG but I do go by the eyeball test and the eyeball test tells me that we've only put in two highly credible performances in the PL and EL so far this season -- the victories over Southampton and Barnsley. That's nowhere near good enough for a club of United's stature. Things are not "improving".

:+1:
We think alike

I agree to an extent. I think only the Barnsley performance was credible. The Southampton performance should've been much more dominating. Could've gone completely to s**t had that penalty been scored.

Thanks Damon good post.

I do think the next 6 league games will decide and tell a huge amount. Poor results between now and December 3rd across all competitions and I think ten hag will be gone for real this time. If by some chance we get some good points on the board while not conceding many, people might look to some early season signs that there were some aspects improving
Hopefully

You would think that come December there would definitely have to be some sort of huge change if our results hadn't picked up and ETH was still in charge.. At that point I feel I would have to start questioning the clubs ambitions as well! Hopefully us fans can start to enjoy the team ASAP, regardless of what changes are to come though. We could all do with it now..

Based on the way the team is playing, it's hard to get a reasonable good run.

Time to bring back Fred, McTominay and Martial for a slight improvement.

25 years of setting alarm at 2am till 4am to watch United and sleep 3 hours to get to work by 8am are behind me now. I am getting results by redcafe mostly now.

Shoring up defence is piss easy. Any championship level manager can make a good defence. Breaking down teams is the hard part.

If it took him 600M and 2 years to at least make an improvement on defence lord help us all

Christ. I wouldn’t do that even if we still had a young Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez and were destroying every team in Europe again

Bull Crap back.

All of the players you quoted had one thing in common, they all played under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ugarte and De Ligt have come in playing under Eric Ten Hag.

I rest my case.
Bruno came in mid season, playing under Ole.
He made an immediate impact.

The issue is that ETH has had a terrible record with his transfers. I can't think of a single outstanding transfer, during his reign.

True, they could have, but Onana made the save and even though it was a shitty pen take our keeper made the save. But your point is well taken that we weren't far off from dropping points to Southampton and had that been the case I seriously doubt ETH would still be on the job today. It's been one appalling performance after another and it's hard to believe that INEOS, at least to date, find that ETH's work so far this season merits their support.

Is anyone actually convinced we've done that though? Yes we've had a few clean sheets, but we've been battered to Liverpool and Tottenham for 3-0s that could have been double.
And had to drop Martinez and De Ligt because of shockers in that latter game, with Evans being the star man in the last game!

We've also not had a proper left back for 15months and if Mazarouri isn't quickly back we'll have Lindelof there

"Dejan Kulusevski made Premier League history with a decisive display for Tottenham Hotspur during the club's 3-0 thrashing of Manchester United in September. The Sweden international created nine chances for his teammates, the most of any opposition Premier League player at Old Trafford since Opta began recording this detailed data in 2003.".

Ohh. Our defense improved a LOT. Or? As i said before, we are one of the worst teams in the league, and in squad value per performance ratio we are definitely the worst. Searching for improvements is just nonsense, nothing else.

Yeah I think who we've played as helped. Barnsley obviously.

But also Southampton and Palace. They're not scoring goals against anyone.
