Thiago Alcantara | Signed for Bayern Munich

I'd be happy even if it was just him we signed, cause he's so damn good, and the idea of us actually buying a midfielder this good, actually even a midfielder in the first place, is something that hasn't come to fruition for me in many a year now.

Judging by all the reports we are at least in for him which is good to know

Part of me wants Spain to go to the final because of De Gea.

Another part of me wants Spain to get knocked out just so the outcomes of this Thiago business will most likely conclude sooner.

I'd settle for Spain getting knocked out. Don't want Thiago to do something ridiculously good which would attract even more attention on him.

Can you possibly point me to these reports? I've personally yet to see anything to indicate that we're definitely in for him or that Barca would sell what they would naturally regard a future star.

I don't see how Bayern is remotely feasible unless they get rid of Schweinsteiger or Toni Kroos, as those are the positions he likes to operate in. Kind of like the Ronaldo issue, United really is the best option should he wish to move as there is a ready made slot available to him, whereas with other clubs he'd face abit more pressure to get into the side. City is another possible option I suppose, working with Pellegrini and the spanish contingent there could be very enticing... don't think he'd get into a Mourinho team in centre-mid and as for Arsenal, if you've got a shot at joining United and being the main man in midfield.. why would you go to the Gunners.

The reports have been posted on here almost a on a daily basis. And a lot of these are from Catalan papers.

Barcelona don't have a choice in the matter. if Thiago wants to move because of a lack of playing time, he will at his specified release clause

Why are people acting stupid in this thread. After every page there is someone who comes with the idea that Barca won't sell the player.

Should we make in the thread title that Thiago has a buyout clause and a link to the definition of the buyout clause for some people to understand that Barca cannot force him to stay there. If we agree terms with him, we only need to pay the 15m pounds (+ possibly the VAT) and he is ours, regardless if Barca think that he will become better than Pele and Maradona combined.

It's not stupid to assume that even if we are interested and he's considering a move, Barca will do everything in their power to convince him otherwise. Obviously we might not see any real movement until after the U21's, but as I've said, I've yet to see anything that instills confidence in us landing him.

I hate how defensive people are in these threads.

From the first time it was reported that Barca have put Thiago on the market, to them revealing his release clause, we have been the name at the front of the queue according to Spanish papers. That, for me, is more telling than links in the British press due to the fact that we don't speak to the press often.

It's safe to say we're in for him.

What is everything in Barca's power, if Thiago decides to leave? Threatening him with killing, kidnapping his father?

It's not the matter of Barca wanting him to leave (they obviously want him to stay), it's a matter of Thiago wanting to leave. If he wants to leave and come to us, Barca has absolutely no say on it.

Would you say that we have absolutely no say on Rooney leaving this summer, or Evra when he wanted to leave a few years back? it's absolute bollocks to assume that Barca would not have the power to convince him to stay.

If he wants to leave and come to us then Barca have no say on it due to the clause in his contract. Such clauses don't exist for Rooney or Evra.

He has a release clause. Activate that and Barca can do feckall unlike the 2 cases you've mentioned where the club can choose who not to sell to by simply rejecting the bid. They can convince him to stay, yes, but with the release clause, he holds all the cards.

I would move to within half a mile of Old Trafford if we sign this kid. Three days to go.

Which part of the buyout clause you are not understanding?

A buyout clause is a clause in a player's contract with their club which guarantees that the club will allow them to leave if another club makes an offer meeting some minimum value (specified in the clause).

If Rooney had a buyout clause in 2010 and wanted to leave, and let's say Madrid convinced him to go there and paid the release clause we would have done feck all. But because he didn't we could have forced hi to stay at the club, regardless of his wishes, like Athletic Club did with Llorente. A good example of buyout clause is Gotze, Dortmund did feck all to stop him from joining Bayern.

Chelsea are in desperate need of a new central midfielder and he fits the bill perfectly. I'd be amazed if they aren't monitoring him.

True but they have Ramires and Lamps for the more forward thinking player, not to mention you'd imagine going to play for mourinho after everything with Barca might not go down well with him. City likewise have Toure in that more forward think role. We've actually got a perfect spot in our team for him to come into and no particularly established player for him to be competing against. If he's looking to leave for first team football then of all the top teams around atm we're the most obvious choice.

Lamprad when he is not scoring is average in cm. Depends on how he feels but if they sign him they have a couple options a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. He is such a talent I would not be surprised if they are interested. It all will depend on who he wants to play for another player being in a team should not put him off he was getting playing time behind Fabregas, Iniesta and Xavi, Ramires and Yaya don't seem such a hurdle. The spot is open for him I hope we actually get involved and it is sorted quickly.

I'm not big on Lampard but that simply isn't true. He isn't as good as say Gerrard/Scholes are/were in a deeper role but he is still very good there and was always a trusted player of Mourinho's. Either way if they sign him with oscar/mata/hazard likely to continue in the team there will generally you'd expect only two deeper spots free and as I said in lampard and ramires they have the attacking spots. It's unclear what will happen with Mikel or if Luiz will stay and move to midfield or if he'll put essien back there or bring khedira etc but either way that's the role that seems more uncertain. He shouldn't be put off by competition but like I said if he's leaving for first team football especially ahead of the world cup then of the top teams we're the most obvious choice.

What is the geez in that. Is he a quality cm? He is a great goalscoring midfielder but they are always at a risk defensively when he is in midfield, he lacks mobility and players tend to get past him often. He is still good going forward but people here are discussing if Thiago may be a defensive liability Lamaprd is. He is solid in midfield but to say Lampard is the reason a club would not sign Thiago seems odd to me. He has never been a great cm more of an am and is 33 now I think it is perhaps time for them to be looking forward.

While he might be more inconsistent nowadays he's still a quality CM. His goalscoring aside, he's also a fantastic passer and is by no means a defensive liability. And while I agree with your point that having an aging Lampard is not a good enough reason for not signing Thiago you're statement on Lampard was wildly off the mark

What he did under Mourinho has nothing to do with now he was one of Europe's best midfielders then an am there also. I could name many midfielders better than him now. He is a goal scoring midfielder they are priceless but he is a liability defensively he doesn't get around as well as he used to. He is 33 and I don't think he is good enough to keep a player like Thiago out of the team. Mikel and Luiz would not keep him out either imo. We don't know what system they will use if they where interested it would not be for him to be on the bench.
