Yeah, for the positions he'd be able to play, he has Kroos, Gotze, Muller, and Schweinsteiger and Martinez for the deeper positions all ahead of him. He wouldn't be at all better with playing time there, even with Pep in charge.

Since it's really hard to imagine Barcelona selling us a potential superstar -- Thiago Alcantara -- would we even consider the idea of suggesting to Barca a loan spell for the Spaniard?
Unless, of course, we can come up with another equally outstanding central midfielder, a loan for Alcantara could serve both clubs' interests quite beautifully. Yes, there are other decent midfielders out there who are gettable, but are Fellaini or Cabaye (I really do like Cabaye, though) are nowhere near Alcanatara's quality. Fabregas is up there, but does anyone really believe we're going to land him? I don't see Gundogan going anywhere. We're not going to snatch Wilshere from Wenger. I don't see Real selling Modric to us -- but Modric would be an outstanding acquisition for us. We might pick up Strootman but if we do he wouldn't give us what Alcantara offers. There's been a lot of chatter about James McCarthy over the last week but I trust we all agree James McCarthy is no Thiago Alcantara.
Where I'm going with this if that we can't actually buy a proper midfielder, why not borrow him for a season? I'm not ready to give up on Tom Cleverley quite yet and who knows what the youth pipeline might produce. And what if Alcantara actually warms up to the idea of being a United man after a season? Maybe he'll survey the situation at Barcelona next summer and decide his long term future is at Manchester. And if he decides to go back, then how much worse off are we than where are right now?

Because doing a loan deal does not suit us in the long run since we are providing him with games, improving him as a player and then giving him back to his team. If he 17 or 18 then that's a different story but not when he is 22. You want to get something out of this deal.
