I just hope we have a plan b, c and d

Thiago was in my opinion a perfect fit for me

if he isn't coming we need to be prepared to pay the big fee for a player we need

Someone like Fellaini can Piss off

Would you say you and he were made for each other?

We do have a plan b but the other 2 are plan f and plan o.

Common sense dictates that until he announces his intention to stay or signs with United everyone should hold off on muppet suicide.
Clutching for straws isn't common sense. Yes, there has been no official announcement yet but there's no point in pinning our hopes on that.

Not really.

You're relying on one interpretation of a tweet as being gospel.

No one knows what Thiago meant or was implying and the fact that no media outlet is giving it any serious attention should be enough to tell you that they don't think it's the end of the saga.

Until we get clarification over what he meant through subsequent developments one way or another there's no point speculating. Is it unreasonable to assume that a 22 year old footballer posting a picture of himself and his brother enjoying themselves in a rooftop pool on a sunny day in one of the worlds most beautiful City's was merely commenting on that? Maybe he didn't mean it to have any link to his transfer saga? That is more plausible, imo, than this being his way of saying that he was staying. Unless you think that he should have some PR guy standing over his twitter saying 'careful now, some spastics at redcafe are going to be very unhappy that you're having fun'.?

The fact that there is absolutely nothing to link the picture to Barcelona football club, has been lost on many people.

So if he stays, you're going to state we were never interested? Clubs rarely establish their interest in public so good luck finding out that way. I think James Ducker from the Times is a reliable chap. He got the details of tevez's transfer to Juve from MCFC. Ducker has said we will try to sign him before we leave for pre-season but that the decision is in the player's hands. However, if he stays with Barca, we were never interested and everything a reliable journo has said is void?

Whether or not everything the media has said is true, their is too much smoke for their not be fire. At the very least we would have enquired about Thiago. Much like our previous sagas, these are players the club is obviously asking about at the very least if not making formal bids.
I don't know if Thiago is coming here but United are clearly seeing if they can bring him here.

Who is it that loves to play with thread titles?

Probably me (but only this thread). I did "The writing is on the ball, a shirt... and the contract?" and "The writing is on the Instagram."

Don't know who did the latest edit, "Thiago: I love Barcelona" or the change of the Rooney thread to Rodney.

It's not just a tweet and a picture, obviously. But the longer it goes on, the more likely it becomes that we're just a bargaining tool for Thiago. He's got the Barcelona fans on his side now, they are angry at Rosell and it's reasonable to expect the club will cave in to offer him the guarantees he wants or a new deal. If he was dead set on leaving, he could have made up his mind by now.

The tweet merely shows that he'd probably be very reluctant to swap Barcelona for Manchester. If in the end he decides to leave - which I don't think he will - Bayern have a better chance of getting him, thanks to Guardiola. Even though I maintain that it'd make zero sense for him to go there.

That tweet changes nothing imo. Off the cuff remarks are taken much to seriously here. Let's wait and see what tomorrow brings before we all sucks the exhaust fumes. I know we all wanted an announcement last week, but July 1st was always a more realistic expectation. If we get him then fantastic, if we don't then big feck him in the face.

Hardly, I cannot be arsed to get into reasons why he would leave again; they've been discussed a million times. It is entirely possible, however, that he understands that despite his personal preference for Barcelona over Manchester as cities (seriously, you're off your rocker if you think anyone would prefer to live in Manchester, imo) the professional necessity is to move away.

Imo, I think the Bayern links are just lazy journalism.

If next week he does come out and say he wants to stay, then obviously the retroactive interpretation of what he's said is obvious. I just don't think given what we know it makes sense to make that link.

Also, just had a look at the Spanish news sites and articles from this morning still seem to be more resigned to the fact he's leaving Barcelona. I know that the sources for these stories are debatable but the vibe is still the same. It's ThiagMaybe atm.

Or, the deal is slightly more complicated because of the release clause, and getting his club to play nice over it. The feeling that this is 'taking long' is entirely subjective and embellished by how crazed and anxious to sign him people on here are, rather than anything realistic in comparison to other transfers. It also doesn't help that we caught wind of it early, as opposed to learning about it now, which could have happened just as easily.

For a good reference point, you should just check the Phil Jones thread. Everyone was on pins and needles until it was official, and cursing the chicken people for not understanding what a release clause is. If only I had a penny for every time someone mentioned how 'long' that one was taking.

Every year it amazes me how much more people are interested in transfer gossip than the actual football. Why do people choose to analyse his every move instead of simply waiting until he signs a new contract or makes his move? Why do you spend so much time getting emotionally invested in twitter and paper talk when you know 95% of it is fabricated in a matter of minutes?

Ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat. Always.

What else are we gonna be doing? Everyone gets excited, during transfer windows, about who their team might sign and the better the player, the more intense the excitement and speculation will be.

Also, people have a right to be anxious, this is one of the single most, nay, the single most uncertain season in the clubs history. We've just lost the best manager in the history of football, and the man who'd been running the ship for as long as all of us have been supporting the club. Now we're in very new territory, with a manager, unproven, in terms of signing big players, for big clubs. So there is a lot of worry, mixed with excitement about what will transpire and everyone knows we seriously need to strengthen the team, especially with the possible departures of key players. So, yeah, I personally think it might be worth discussing.

Well said. I'm just not entirely sure why this can't be discussed when something concrete transpires. Like when we bid for Lucas last summer. The majority of this isn't discussion, it's just gossip and a load of people making jokes that stopped being funny before I'd even signed up here. Why does gossip interest people so much to the extent that it deserves 10,000+ replies which probably dwarfs the combined total of those post-match discussion threads for an entire season?

Good point well made.

Because it's fun.

No, I totally get your point. It's just that with no other United related news, during the early summer, there really is nothing else to discuss.

In what sense? Surely there's better, more fun things to do than this?

Why not use that as an incentive to take a break from football for a couple of months and engross yourself in something else?

I believe it's the thrill of the hunt that keep us attached with a mix of what TD mentioned (recovering from the aftermath of Sir Alex' retirement). I don't think there are many here who are truly emotionally attached to these transfer sagas, but rather agree on the charade and spur on this bizarre transfer muppet notion, just for fun.

They really didnt have a clue how a release clause worked eh?!:nervous:

Hey, I've 3 crazy bastard kids, who've just finished school for the summer and a missus hell bent on redecorationg and spending money on shit we dont need for the house . I've plenty of distractions, believe me. Football, during the summer especially, is an escape for me.

Might be an idea for those irritated by the muppets.
