Thiago Alcantara | Signed for Bayern Munich

Not really, because "which is what he wants" is a very woolly premise. If playing time is his number one concern and demands to be a regular next season, then yes they can't convince him to stay. If he'd just like that, but is willing to carry on his reserve status if he can get to that position in a couple of years, then it'll be easier to convince him. Since we don't really have an inside track on it, we can't be certain, hence all the fretting.

Yeah, that was my initial point. That Barcelona will convince him to stay.

I don't think Thiago is stupid. What can Barca say to him to disguise the fact that the senior midfielders are clearly still better than him, and that there are few signs of any of them going over the hill just yet, and certainly not next season? They can promise him loads of playing time if they like, but he'll know it's a lie.

In general, I'm still holding to the same position. We've got a good chance here, but nothing is going to happen until he's back from his holiday. Once he is, I expect things to move very quickly.

Good post!

A good way to understand someone's mind is to look at previous history. We know his father, a world champion player who had a carrier in several clubs in Brazil, Italy and Spain, that tells us that the family isn't afraid of changing environments and that they have ambitions. It's also reported that his father is a strong minded character who don't mess around, I have read somewhere that Thiago himself is a free spirit but also a level headed young man with lot's of common sense. That tells me that in the end he will make his own decision without being fooled by promises and sweat words. He's captain for his national U-21 team, that gives us an indication that people around him trust in him and that he got leadership abilities. Doesn't sound like a person who change his mind in the first place.

We also know what DDG wrote on that famous picture. We also know what his former team mate said about learning English and that he signed a United replica. All this tells me that he don't hide away from what's going on around him. On top of that we have reports in Spanish newspapers about the situation.

All in all this looks like a person who knows his onions and know what he want's. No way he would sign that shirt without any knowledge about his future. No way he would let the pics with de Geas message flying around without a explanation to local media. He's no fool.

The stumbling block is probably Barcelona and the clausal. As soon as this is sorted out he will join us, any other option seems unlikely after all this. If Barca block the transfer or he change his mind then I think no Catalans will blame him, only United will look like fools. But to be honest I don't think this will happened. This story had gone to far. I'm very positive.

In fairness, the original post (unless I'm missing an earlier one, apologies if so) was a fair bit stronger than that:

Won't happen IMO, Barclona would be mad not to give him what he wants.

Which is where the "what he wants" part comes into play. Some things, Barca really can't promise.

Why are people still believing shit like indykalla after all the warnings on here? Is it just that the need to believe is so great? Makes it easy for these bullshit artists to get the clicks they crave.

There's a midfielder shaped hole in most of our lives and we'll believe anything and anyone who tells us what we want to believe.

To be fair is not that people believe them, but some follow some shitty ITK for amusement and then post stuff from there. Someone else could then just read the news without the source of information and think that this is true. Anyway, I think that surely his agent and his dad have meetings with both United and Barca in these days.

Giggs: "Spain's dominance will continue for a long time"

As Ryan Giggs, one of the greatest living legends in world football, was relaxing at the Ali Sami Yen stadium - he is currently in Istanbul doing an intensive football coaching course - he agreed to talk to MARCA.com.

After 22 years at the top and at almost 40 years of age, what is your secret?
A mixture of things. Firstly hard work, then being managed by a great manager for such a long time and then being surrounded by good players. You also have to look after your body and be mentally strong. You have to be motivated. All these things can help prolong your career.

Are you close to the end of your career?
Yes, it's very close. Most players' careers usually finish at around 34 or 35.

Will you become a coach soon?
I still haven't decided what I want to do when I retire. Coach, manage the youngsters, become a manager - who knows. I want to be better prepared. I will decide in two or three years, when I'm ready.

What is your opinion on the Spain team?
The Spain team is full of great players like Fàbregas, Iniesta and Xavi. They're great when they have the ball at their feet. They've been a top team for the last six or seven years. Then the under-21s are the ones who will come next. There is quality at every level and I think the success will continue for a long time.

One of those players, Thiago, could become a teammate of yours. Do you think he will be a good addition?
I've seen him in several games. He's a good player. But there's always a lot of speculation with United and good players. We'll see if it happens in the end, but he's a big talent.

Giggsy is a fan. He's probably sat refreshing this thread.

Who could possibly follow such a stream of lies for amusement?
No doubt there are meetings with Barcelona. He's their player after all. But nothing to say there has been United contact.

I think that is certain that we are heavy interested on him. Take aside Twitter, there is every media both in England and Spain who are saying that we are going to sign him, a lot of journos saying that, the De Gea things, Rosell confirming the clause, Xavi and Pique saying that he should be patient etc.

I am certain that it isn't just twitter this time. Will we get him or not is difficult to know, but I think there is a big chance for doing so.

That Graham Hunter chap seems to think there were terms being agreed between United and Thiago's men. I thought he was considered one of the more reputable sources at the moment?

Was it G. Hunter who also said live on TalkSport that Man Utd contacted him for help in getting in touch with Thiago?

It's never "just twitter" though. The press always run with the same shite that they read elsewhere. How many times have transfer stories reported by lots of papers over different countries ended up having a source like Caughtoffside, Goal, or Footylatest? There's a site on Newsnow that looks at transfer rumours reported in the home country of the transfer target, and the amount of times the source is linked from the home country, say Portugal, back through the British press and eventually to a bullshit online source and/or Twitter is unreal.

I actually didn't know about that, but I've heard numerous times that Hunter is close with Thiago's father, so I suppose it would make sense. He's the one who has said that the player terms have been met and agreed, but the club to club deal needs work.

The doom and gloom always sets in when people start to become impatient for more news and as a result, over speculate. The reality is that negotiations probably won't start moving quickly until we go into July and Moyes officially takes charge.

Patience Caftards!

We got your point TN, you made it in each of your posts here.

Good response. Christ, you're a sensitive little spasmochild, aren't you? Is this the way this thread is going to go? People can't discuss transfers and the possibly of them happening because childish, sensitive little pricks can't take the thought that we might not sign him and that press rumours might well just be press rumours?

Wait until will go into July?? And what if Chelsea who already have their new manager working for them goes and signs him? You dont waste time with hot targets like this you get it done fast.

We can't discuss the transfers because the senile old people like you are making the same point over and over again.

It's not a done deal, likely it's not even near and we don't know if we'll get him or not. But to suggest that this is just another transfer rumor is moronic. If Thiago wasn't considering leaving Barca to come to us, surely Barca senior players wouldn't come with those pleas to stay, Rosell wouldn't say that the clause is real and he would likely given an explanation why he signed the shirt and say that De Gea joked about the ball thing. I am repeating that likely is far from having an agreement and there is a big chance that he will stay there, but to suggest that there is only twitter and medias who don't have a clue is stupid.

And you are not discussing at all, you are only saying how wrong are we. And you're the sixth leading poster in this thread.

Buuurn!

Let's move away from the name-calling and arguing and focus on what's happening, or lack of what's happening.

Posting 4 times in a 170-pages thread to ask for a bit of peace doesn't strike me as unadulterated muppetry.

I have no issue with how much anyone does or doesn't post in this thread. But don't come in here with a top red rant about people being in here who are never in the youth/reserve threads when you yourself almost never post there. It's shameless hypocrisy, and it's irritating as hell.

Christ, Goggs is going all muppet on us now. Nothing has been more on than this, ever.

Read on Barca forums that Thiago has agreed terms with United, source espn. Dunno if that's real.

I'm not senile, I'm just cynical because I've seen all this shit before. It was real with Ozil, real with Sneijder, real with Sanchez, real with Hazard, real with Lucas Moura. We were signing these players, it wasn't just Twitter, it was genuine press, proper ITK's people on talksport and elsewhere with links to the countries the players played in/came from. Genuine interest reported everywhere, deals imminent, terms agreed with players, fees agreed with clubs. All these deals were on, like donkey kong, and cocks were out.

How many of the above players play for us?

You moan about me posting an opinion because I've already said what I think. How is that different from you saying on multiple occasions that you think it'll happen? In a discussion there are two sides, every update will have people believing and people being cynical and not buying it. Allow me the same right to an opinion that I allow you, and the right to post it in the Thiago transfer discussion thread, and stop being such a child about it.

But hasnt that been the news for the past 48 hours now? I think Hunter was the first who posted that on Twitter.

talkSPORT's Spanish football expert, Graham Hunter, claims Manchester United are in pole position to land Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara and believes they would be getting a 'bargain'.
“Thiago Alcantara's been breaking through the ranks at Barcleona for a few years,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “Man United have had a tickle at him twice already, and at one stage they asked me to put them in touch with his father, who I know. They tried to sign him once and he wasn't ready to go.
“Man United thought Cesc Fabregas' arrival would diminish the amount of game time that Thiago would get and that has been true.
“His development needs more game time whether that's in the Camp Nou or at Old Trafford.
“Man United are so well informed, given the number of times that they have watched him.
“There is definitely a big decision to come for Barcelona and Thiago because they need the money to restock generally and he needs to play.
“He’s seen as a two footed creative midfielder and on a number of occasion he's played in the pivot role.
“Although he is a young man who does more showy things than he should, he can play two or three positions at Man United. The price would be around £15million, which would be a bargain.”

Seems he's a bit more ITK than most people think.

Theres also a link to listen on the page. Quite interesting from 4:20.

We were on Hazard and Lucas, if I am remembering correct we had bids accepted from clubs on both of them. Of course Chelsea offered much more money, and in Lucas case PSG came in the last moment and offered much more money and got him, but we definitely were on for both of them. Dunno about Sneijder, but I think that we were for him too, though I am not sure.

Are we saying here seriously that he's our player? No. But we are saying that we are heavily for him, which I think is almost certain. Of course we don't know if we'll get him and personally I think that neither Thiago does know where he'll play next season, but for sure we are trying to get him. Why Xavi and Pique said that he should stay there, why Rosell confirmed the clause if Thiago said that he's not leaving? It doesn't make sense that all of this are just rumors. Of course there can be a lot of options like Thiago really agreed to come to us, Thiago considering his options and Thiago wanting to get a better deal there. Add to that the willingness or unwillingness of Barca to corporate. A lot of options, but we are definitely trying. Will we get him, I doubt that anyone know with certainty.
