This has been overlooked because of the bickering in here:

Moyes told Mazinho he wants Thiago to be his new Arteta at Manchester United and that has swung it

There are many articles in both England and Spain today the possibility of Thiago moving to Manchester United, in Spain they mainly cover the wages the player would be getting if he moved and there are some claims he's been offered just over €4m a year and others that it's more like €6m, which the player is stated as wanting. If Thiago does eventually leave then the Barcelona press will no doubt label him as greedy, because those kind of figures aren't thrown around for young La Masia products at the Camp Nou.
However, Sport have a big article on how Moyes sees Thiago at his new Manchester United and reckon they know what was said between the new
man
in charge at Old Trafford and Mazinho, Thiago's father. They say, at least in this article, that it wasn't money which convinced Mazinho or a guarantee of first team football, or any specific explanation of him leading the team forward, it was simply a conversation about Mikel Arteta.

Moyes is said to have told Mazinho 'I want him to be like the Arteta I had at Everton', obviously that doesn't mean winning nothing and getting no international recognition before a cut-price move to Arsenal, but more of an explanation of the role Moyes sees Thiago taking.
Mazinho was by all accounts impressed by this and sees how Moyes helped the career of Arteta and mould him into the protagonist of Everton's
midfield
. Being that at Manchester Untied would be on a higher level completely and that's where the attraction lies for Mazinho and his son. They know Moyes understands the player and his role, and the Arteta situation has given them extra confidence that the new Manchester United manager knows what he's doing when it comes to Spanish players of that type,
Sport
say that Moyes has played a huge role in the effort to convince Mazinho and Thiago, and will be a big part of the reason he joins, if the deal is completed. The newspaper concede, in this one article (they'll probably change their minds if the move happens), that Thiago isn't moving for money, although Manchester United are offering more than Barcelona would. They say it's the promise of a prominent role and the explanation Moyes has put across about Thiago being his new Arteta. They label the chance to be the protagonist of Manchester United's midfield 'priceless'.

I'm choosing to go with this :D

Well, hopefully I'm wrong about all this and he ends up coming here. I'll leave you all to Muppet in peace.

Wonder what's happening in the Strootman thread?

'Spotted in Manchester airport.' It was inevitable.

The difference, TN, is that the muppets just say 'it's on', or whatever. You, on the other hand, reply to those posts, normally saying something along the lines of 'you're stupid for thinking it's on.' No-one minds you stating your opinion over and over again - that's what the muppets do, as you say. But the way you express that opinion, by quoting someone who thinks it's on and telling them they're wrong, is argumentative and attention-seeking. You know you're going to get a rise because people don't like to be told they're idiots and just let it lie.

Try just reacting to the news with your opinions, rather than constantly, aggressively challenging the opinions of others. Also, as Adzzs has pointed out, you don't have to make every disagreement so personal. Calling everyone who has asked you to stop 'childish' and 'sensitive' (along with prick and spaz etc) doesn't really help your cause.

EDIT: Sorry, seems I missed a few posts and others have said as much already and it's worked out. Ignore all the above.

your post was basically like mine. this has been going on for two weeks now. what is going on?

Seems like we are pretty much on the cusp of bringing him to OT, only Barca stand in our way. He still wouldn't get all the first team football he wants right now if he stayed. Barca can only guarantee the future for Thigao. That just may be enough for him to sign for us.

Only Barca. Also known as the Transfer Market's Megaton Twat Bastards. They look hellbent on making this difficult for us. Would be a grand slab of karma after all the begging and pleading they did for Fabregas.

I copy and paste all your posts, obviously. :D

Nah, to be fair in this instance we weren't really saying the same thing. You were disagreeing with his objections, whereas I was just suggesting that everyone's problem might be that his opinions are always expressed as arguments.

That's precisely my point. The tone comes across as condescending. That's what I said. If he tones it down, no one will care. I disagreed with his objections and questioned his tone. So the latter part of what I said aligns with your argument

Being serious, this is very interesting. But I like that you can deliberately misread Moyes' alleged statements (definitely alleged, since that doesn't sound like the sort of conversation one has over the phone, and they're both still on holiday) and they become hilarious. 'Come to us, Thiago, you can be the new Arteta!'. Good as Arteta is, that's like trying to get Neymar by promising to make him the new Malouda.

Ah, in that case once again we're just both too clever not to think the same things. Mazel tov!

Yes Moyes! If true, then it should be good.

Anybody know if Moyes is one to discuss transfer targets when asked? Obviously I don't mean "YES WE ARE AFTER (PLAYER X)", but is he one to make a comment like "Well we're trying to him here, that's all I can say for now". Silent Witness? Or is the same as Fergie to which he not only denies the rumours, but absolutely dismisses them like a pair of old socks.

I've yet to say anyone is stupid for thinking it's on. Not once have I posted that. But ho hum, if that's the way posts are read, twisted and misrepresented then fair enough. Most of my posts have been stating my opinion, on the sources and what they say.

As I say, I'll leave you to it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't Liverpool and Chelsea doing the actual business now, I'm mean they've signed a few players already? People are saying wait until July 1st, but not quite sure why we have to. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be shouted down on that one..

I suppose the only thing that surprises me a bit, is that the club have been pretty quiet sound bite wise. I know Moyes is on holiday, but I'm presuming all this silence kind of affects the stock market, which is Glazier nightmare territory...

I guess it depends on how it is interpreted. He could easily say "You could be the next Paul Scholes" but the difference being, Moyes has never managed Scholes. He has managed Arteta, and whilst Thiago is on a different planet to Arteta, Arteta was Moyes' focal point, the centre of everything. If that conversation was real, which it may well have been considering we've apparently been meeting with Barca/Thiago's men for a few days, then it shows more how he's going to use Thiago, rather than what he considers the skill level of Thiago to be. I think Thiago has what it takes to be our main man in the middle.

I'm unsure on what involvement Moyes has had up until now. Sure, he's on his jollys, allegedly, but Im sure he's always by a phone for his consultation.

Agree 100%, I was just being deliberately contrary for the laugh. ;)

Can't suppress muppetry any longer, I'm in for this one!!

Wait.. Use Thiago like he did Arteta?!

Unless I am mistaken, didn't Arteta play out wide a lot of the time?

bit strange for Moyes to compare Thiago with Arteta, though I'm not sure how true it is. Thiago is going to be ten times the player in the future.

Arteta was the heartbeat of that Everton team and pretty much dictated all of their play from the middle of the park. I'm guessing Moyes wants to use Thiago similarly for us and that's what he was trying to convey with this comparison. It has nothing to do with their abilities, just the way the team is set up.

Hes clearly not talking about the type of player just making him an important part of the team.

Ultimately people were getting excited about a bit of writing on a football. Writing that wasnt even his. It would be no surprise at all if it was all about getting a new contract at Barcelona and if it turns out we havent even got half way to signing him.

Graham Hunter, Sport, Mundo, Daily Mail, The Telegraph, ESPN are all convinced he will sign for us... A bit of writing on a football is irrelevant.

Depends on who it is really. I can remember him discussing some transfers, and i can remember him dismissing them. I can also remember a large number of times when a player has left out of the blue or has came in out of the blue. So he's a bit of both from memory.

They were the ones getting over-excited about it
The rumours were there before De Gea's writing remember.

Mark Ogden broke Ferguson's retirement, I doubt he needs random written messages to dictate his major stories.

It's one of the things about being a United fan. They tease with the United angle then save it to the last bit to keep us listening. Hampering my pub time.
