Not sure why some are discounting our chances in getting Thiago over the scousers. We can offer champions league football and the chance to play with Pogba and Bruno. We’re still a big draw for players despite our current position.

Because there's a huge likelihood we're being thrown into the speculation in a bid to hassle Liverpool into paying up.

We won't be signing 2 centre mids, when we already have 5 unless someone is off.
But McTom won't be, as he's recently signed on for years, and Fred is 50m worth

Would be very surprised if Ole goes for him. He strikes me as someone who is stringently following a plan (rejuvenating our squad with a long term mindset).

As much as I love Thiago, I reckon you're right, and I think this is good. Previously, past managers have signed players who are past it (Thiago is far from past it) and it left us in a right state. Ole is slowly starting to sort out the balance of the squad regards age, which should put us in good stead even going forward.

Thiago is a no brainer. All those questioning us going for him, I just don't get where you're coming from.

Great technical ability, masses of experience, winning mentality.

The fact that he is 29 is a good thing not a bad thing. You can't have a squad of youngsters, you need a good mix and blend.

We are obviously being name dropped to get Liverpool to pay up, but if it were up to me, I would pay the money in a heartbeat.

I’d be happy to get rid of Fred and Pereira for Thiago and VDB. That’s clearly an upgrade and a deal when both would cost us in the €70 million. We’ll likely generate a decent return on selling Fred and Pereira as well.

I hope this isnt the reason. Theres nothing wrong with signing a 29 year old and then getting an under study.

The way Thiago plays, he has at-least 3 seasons of top quality in him.

It may not be the case. Just going off the four signings Ole has made to date, but could be wrong. That said, I think Ole is satisfied with Matic and Fred to share the number 6 role. With Bruno, Pogba, McTominay and potentially VdB, we're pretty stocked in that area.

And all of them don't offer what Thiago does - press resistance/ball retention from deep. Thats the one type of player our midfield will still lack.

I think at this stage of his career he not that interested in joining a team building phase and is looking to add titles now to his CV , with Liverpool he walks in a team that is ready now to win titles and CL , I think working with Klopp is also a big draw for him,
I agree that’s likely, but also for a LOT of players that last big contract needs to be a big paying one.

It’s a short career after all so if somebody is doubling your money (as an example) it will grab your attention.

Generally opposed to us buying 29-30 year olds - but for players of his quality, and when they could arrive at a price like the one mentioned for him - agree with you!

Very fair point but you get the distinct impression that he wants a team that are the finished article rather than a project

I like Scott but those are the challenges when playing for United. It will force him to become better. Same for Greenwood if we get Sancho. They grew up in the academy when we were winning titles. They'll know what t takes.

Agree. Don't think it's a problem at all. Competition for places makes everyone better. Training also gets more intense.

With the congested nature of the upcoming season, Scott will get plenty of game time to make a claim to be a starter if he can perform in those games.

I like Scott as well - so if he can up his game to compete with Matic and Thiago - that would be great to watch!

I'd replace Lingard and Periera - and keep Fred ;)

Thiago, VDB and Sancho would make for an acceptable summer.
That’ll be magnifique.
I originally wanted Grealish, but since I’m convinced we jumped from Grealish to VdB to afford Sancho I couldn’t be happier.

No way we’re signing both DvdB and Thiago but I’m just happy with the former. Thiago is 29 now and it’s always much more exciting signing young players.

He is going to cost us 27m pounds. How is that not squad building? This is how in my opinion you build squads.

Also if he is fit enough 30-40 games, that should be good enough. Because whenever he is fit, he will be our best player
I said build a squad for the next 4 years.

Not impossible but I dont know if a 33 year old Thiago is going to be our best option when the time comes.

Agreed again. We need to stop seeing quality on top of quality in the squad as a problem, and start seeing it as a good thing. I mean look at the CL final. Bayern started with Thiago and Goretzka in midfield, and were able to bring on players like Tolisso and Coutinho. Similarly PSG were able to bring a player like Veratti off the bench. We need to be aiming for quality throughout the squad.

I think 4 years is way too long in football. I would prefer a refresh every 2 years and for next 2 years I am certain Thiago will be awesome option to have. Never going to happen but one can dream

If we are really after Thiago after DVB, I think that will be the end of Fred. Hope someone comes up with a 30M offer for Fred.

Even Reguilon/DVB/Grealish could be a great summer but if we can add Sancho/Upamecno on top of this it would be the best summer for ages and we can ignore spending for 2 more summers.

If Fred’s fee can cover Thiago it’s a no brainer. 3 man midfield with the options of Bruno, Pogba, Thiago, VdB, Matic and McTominay is excellent.

Is he a known Liverpool fan or is it just a new challenge/league while he can?

The way the media has been reporting on Thiago in the last few weeks it's been a come and get plea from him to Liverpool.

Class player so would be good if United can get this done as well, Start of an imposing squad.

He or his father were pictured in United gear before his transfer to us fell through in 2013. He's not a Liverpool fan.

29 years old is the peak of someone's career. It would be an honor for any club to get someone with the skills of Thiago in their prime.

Stefan Effenberg and Zinedine Zidane both joined respectively Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at age 30 and led them to Champions League glory.

Some are acting like 29 is half retired. Thiago will be world class for 4+ more years, easily.
Sporting wise this makes much more sense than getting a 33 year old Messi.

Thiago would be an unbelievable Next signing . If we could Some how Box off VdB , Thiago and Sancho I honestly think we have a title chance next year.
