We aren't going to sign a player to bench Pogba. I know that might break the hearts of many Pogba haters but it's clear that what we need is an upgrade on Matic. That's who we'll replace in our starting lineup and once we do we'll have a bloody good midfield.

Manchester United`s standard should be a quality squad with depth and adding Thiago would be a great move. Surprised some say " Pogba , Bruno, Thiago won't work", " Pogba will leave when he comes", " Pogba will be benched" etc. Yo need quality players on each position to make players to compete for their spot, to keep their motivation and competition always pushes players to improvement and better performances. With Thiago you would even add more versatility in the midfield. Even if Pogba will be benched , so what ? Maybe Thiago won´t start, so what ? He hasn´t been always a starter for Bayern too. Tolisso, Lucuas Hernandez, Coman were benched in last games at Bayern, look who sits on City´s bench.
I feel that too many worry about too much quality players resulting in their favourite players getting benched. You never can get enough quality players as a top team. Hope Ed doesn´t has this mentality , cause this won`t bring United forward at all.
That being said, I don´t expect him to end up ad United anyway, but super werid that some are so worried for quuality players potentially benching quality players

Yeah - Falk just said Bayern expect a bid soon + this from Fab suggests to me that our name is being used to drum up interest and push Liverpool into bidding soon.

Goretzka is much more disciplined than Pogba is, a lot better work rate/really good pressing and not that adventurous with his passing. A midfield of Thiago, Van de Beek and Bruno would probably be fine. A midfield or Thiago, Pogba and Bruno i don't think would work, at least not in any straightforward way without the rest of the team being set up perfectly.
Really ? Do you see how much Müller works defensively ? Goretzka is defence machine , while Thiago is one of the best in interceptions/ recoveries and one of the most pressing resistent players in the world. All 3 are amazing defensively.
How are Pogba and Bruno better than Goretzka and Müller defensively ? I also strongly believe their work rate is way better.

That's a point that has come through on the last few pages several times and most posters got wrong. Our whole team, at least now once again under Flick, has defensive duties, and especially Müller is a natural pressing machine, running at opponents tirelessly on his matchstick legs and blocking tons of passing opportunities with his positioning and spatial awareness. Having him up front helps DMs, not the other way around.
I'm guessing Liverpool are waiting for Barcelona to make an offer on Wijnaldum before making their move on Thiago.
We clearly can't rely on Matic for the whole season and Ole seems to be trying Fred as the deepest midfielder. If we can play Fred or McT with Bruno and Pogba then we can very easily play Thiago with them. He may not run about as much as those two(neither does Matic who is better) but he brings so much more quality.
I think he still goes to Liverpool and will be a great signing for them, but he's a player we should at least be looking at.

He's a phenomenal player that'll be pretty shame to play for Liverpool but why would we be interested ? We have Pogba and Bruno and he won't like being a squad option for them. Bayern probably just using our name to make Liverpool take a decision on this quickly.
Midfield sorted for 4+ years if VDB and Thiago sign, minus of course a Matic replacement, with Sancho the front 4 is sorted, and from that point all thats needed is a CB and fullbacks.
The squad rebuild would be nearly complete, so if Thiago knows Sancho and VDB are coming then it could be a level playing field in a season.
Thiago knows he's much, much better than just being a squad option for Pogba and Bruno. I can see VDB agreeing to this role but definitely not Thiago. I really can't believe we're actually interested in him. Pretty sure it's just leaks from Bayern's side that's all.
Nobody is suggesting he's behind Bruno and Pogba though, Thiago is obviously a starter when fit.
Then neither Pogba nor Bruno will also agree on becoming a bench option.

This is what’s I’d do in your position or go for a CL and let him walk for free. Liverpool, PSG and City will be your biggest CL challengers. I’d argue add Thiago to Liverpool makes them favourites, so no idea why Bayern would do that. For what just 30mil euros, even during Covid is that gonna really help you financially.
This all is to pressure Liverpool.

I thought Thiago, in the UCL final, played the role that Fred plays for us when he starts alongside Pogba and I wouldn't lie that Thiago's composure and quality was well above what Fred usually displays. The guy was looking so relaxed in a UCL final with PSG players pressing him but he always managed to find great passes and even broke up PSG attack at times. Watching the final was painful for me because I remember how heavily we were linked to him before his move to Bayern and I couldn't help but think what could potentially have been had we actually landed him back then. Quality player and would love it if he were to come to United. But like other, I too understand this just may be a play on the part of Bayern to get actual interested parties to hurry up with a bid.
There was this Bayern coach that was asked in October 2019 if Bayern could press like Liverpool.
The answer was that you cannot go 200 with a car that has a high speed of 100...

He is going to cost us 27m pounds. How is that not squad building? This is how in my opinion you build squads.
Also if he is fit enough 30-40 games, that should be good enough. Because whenever he is fit, he will be our best player
We will do it because Thiago has been a model athlete over the past 7 years and we usually don't stand in the way of players who have rendered outstanding services for an extended period of time.
We will be getting Sancho and VDB. If we are adding Thiago to those two that means Ole would want to try Matic as a LCB. Given his discipline and ball playing ability, he could be a stop gap at LCB until we go in for a defender next summer.
