Thiago Alc*ntara | Retires

Just to think of the amount of smoke blown up his arse after a few sideways passes when he first arrived. It's amusing when some are so determined to force a narrative that is a figment of their imagination.
What are you trying to say. Did you even watch him play at all. He was our best midfielder when healthy. He was also Bayerns playmaker for 7 years. Christ, that’s like me saying Giggs was just an average player.

I'm not talking about what he did at Bayern. Comparing Thiago to Premier League royalty. The cheek of it!

 bold move to compare a 13 time title winner who has the all time highest number of PL assists with a bloke who made 68 PL appearances and has a total of 2 goals and 4 assists. Schweinsteiger would be a more apt comparison.

He's not even a Bayern legend, just another playmaker they easily replaced.

Unfortunately, not. The current Bayern team has no playmaker in the "Thiago-mold". They haven't had one in years (well, since Thiago left) and that is why their creativity in attack is lacking.

They haven’t got to a CL final since he left, after he was superb in that run. I wouldn’t say they easily replaced him.

I don't think he was brilliant at all. I'll remember him as a fouling machine. One of those who always managed to avoid being booked.

He played one season where all their defenders were injured as a CDM and looked lost there without someone to do the tackling for him, that was as lightweight a midfield as Klopp ever had. The next season with Van Dijk back and Fabinho in CDM and him further up he was brilliant as they got 92 points in the league and the CL final. Got injured in the warm-up of the final, which summed up his health record at Liverpool. He was PFA Team of the Year for that season. But ultimately it wasn’t a good signing when someone is injured that often on a big wage.

Good decision for him. His body unfortunately kept breaking down. In hindsight moving to a more intense league as he got older was probably not the wisest move but I respect his dedication to try a new challenge. Could have easily taken the Saudi route too. Top player and top man.

Intrigued to see how his coaching career goes.

It's a real shame and a big loss. He was a world class midfielder and insanely gifted. What I admired the most was the way he worked the ball through tight spaces.

I think it's underestimated how much importance he had at Liverpool and what they could have achieved with him fully fit.

I know that we were after him before he moved to Bayern (obviously for Pep) and was gutted that we missed out.

Imagine the alternate reality where we closed out the deals and got a 22 year old Thiago and 23 year old Kroos in back to back summers.

Even if we had opted to bring him here I'm not convinced that we would have been able to prevent all the injuries that have shortened his career.

Overrated.

I somehow feel Thaigo is a player who is both overrated and underrated at the same time.

Opinions are either he's the greatest midfielder of the last decade, robbed by injuries, or a hack who makes sideways passes in a stylish way.

He was a really good midfielder, definitely amongst the best in the world, and had a couple of world class ones where he was a monster offensively and defensively.

I think the most impressive thing about him during his PL days was how many fouls he could commit without getting booked. He had a lot of talent but an underwhelming impact on the game.

Sad. One of the finest midfielders of his generation when fit. I was so happy when he joined Liverpool and I could finally enjoy his performances but it was a very disappointing tenure due to the recurring injuries.
