Thiago Alcântara | 2016/17 Performances

Probably my favorite player to watch right now

I mean who pulls a fecking first touch elastico between two opponents:drool:

I mean, it's lovely but he should've flicked it to his teammate there who would've ran through on goal.

For the first time he has a injury free season and immediately shows what he is capable of. For me he is like Kroos, controls and dominates the game, can assist, can score, amazing build up play, technique is outstanding. Like someone mentioned before, his workrate and influence in Bayern's defence is immense as well. So many interceptions and clean tackles. Like all the spanish players in Bayern hes got a great personality and positive appearance. Next to Modric my favorite player to watch.

His stats this season are simply unreal. 8.33 interceptions per game, over 2 successful dribbles and 90% pass accuracy. I only watched Bayern like 5-7 times this season but Thiago was always world class. Wonderful player, I bet Barca regrets letting him go.

8.33 interceptions just sounds absurd. What is the record?

That map says it's 3.7 interceptions per game and whoscored is saying the same. 8.33 is probably a mistake. 3.7 interceptions per game is nonetheless very good though.

Giggs said he "was not a Man Utd player". We are very lucky he's not our manager.

After Modric he's probably the best midfielder around, when fit and at his best. Just a ridiculously talented player and stands out in almost every game. Such a shame we never got him.

Eh? Thiago is not a Man Utd player. Why wouldn't you want your manager to be able to discern simple facts of reality?

Thiago Alcantara is brazilian but decided to play for spain for no reason like Costa LOL

In fact there could be a WC team with just brazilian traitors that could make some splash .. look

Pepe at CB

Thiago Motta and Thiago Alcantara at CM

That Jorginho dude from Napoli and Eder.

Diego costa and Rodrigo from valencia

LOL

HahAHAHaHHAhaHA

If that's the reason we didn't sign him then that's devastating. I don't mean to Fellaini-bash but what did he see from him that screams out Man United more than a world class talent like Thiago?

Thiago spent a large portion of his childhood in Spain so he is a little different from the others.

I'd love to know if there is any proof to such a statement.

His quotes here don't seem to suggest he didn't rate him:
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...ryan-giggs-impressed-thiago-alcantara-4703873

Yet these "alleged quotes" (written after Moyes was sacked) seem to be taken as fact:
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/manchester...thiago-alcantara-vetoed-by-ryan-giggs-1449552

David Moyes has blamed all around him for the mess he made with a Championship winning squad, refused to accept any personal responsibility, and failed to really impress in any job he's taken since. His PR team was out in force, and they took a shot at a Manchester United legend, there's nothing more to see here.

Giggs had the role of player/coach for 10 days when Thiago signed for BM. Frankly, even if he was of that opinion (which I very much doubt), if David Moyes believed in him, and he was ready to choose us over BM, then Moyes should have shown a little character and made the kind of decision he was being paid to make.

Disagree that passing lane was blocked. What he did was the most effective way of keeping the all there just happens to also be a moment of downright genius.

Awh

I try to pretend he doesn't exist now because it still hurts. Pretty glad he's at Bayern tbh as I never watch German football.

We could've signed this guy but ended up with Fellaini, feck my fecking life Moyes you absolute twat.

I believe he's intimated that he might've considered playing for Brasil but was never contacted - but in the end the brothers have been pretty clear about their allegiances for the NT

Mazinho his dad apparently offered his children services to the CBF but wanted a guarantee from them and he got turned down. Thiago also grew up in Spain so I can understand him picking Spain. Really isn't a traitor in my books but a big lost.

Honestly, the CBF needs to monitor situations like that better but with such a huge population and players scattered all over the globe, a few talents will slip through the ranks.

True, but that's not thiago's case. Thiago was a highly visible profile since he was a kid considering his father

1-7 ffs. Sometimes I need to remind myself of how crazy that was. Hosting the world cup as Brazil and getting thrashed seven one in the semis
At HOME. In the SEMI final. SEVEN goals.
Unbelievable, absolutely unreal

Players crying after the game like that little kid in the stands
Klose besting Ronaldo's goal record as the cherry on top
Not sure how you can come back from something like this.

If only Brazil hadn't avenged it with their olympic Gold. Total redemption is what that was.

Klostermann destroying the much-hyped Gabigol in a sprint duel over 15 yards with Gabigol having 5 yards head start
Priceless.

Sadly he tore his ACL

That's apparently the reason why gabigol can't get a game at inter

Rumors that back in october, while players did sprints in training, he could only complete one set(10) while the rest did 3 or 4...just physically unfit for european football yet

His case is different from someone like Pepe or Deco. His dad and the CBF have a sour relationship since after the 94 World Cup and he also wanted assurances for his kids. The CBF would of never given in.

As an aside, Rafinha chose Brazil and Thiago is born in Italy.

Thiago only lived in Brasil from 1992 to 1994 and later from 2001 to 2004. The rest of his live he lived in Spain.

His cousin Rodrigo Moreno who plays for Valencia opted for Spain, too.
