Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Cool, Fallout being my favourite type of games means I should absolutely love this according to this thread

My only confusions before I start is, should I have this conversation that affects the game (a conversation I know nothing about) or just leave it
Say that you let Lethos live.

Just a quick question.
Gwent cards, should I buy them whenever somebody has them for sale or should I wait until I have more money?
Buy special cards-scorch, decoy, leaders whenever you see them. You can win a lot of the regular ones off innkeepers and the like to build up your deck. One exception is you should buy what you can off the innkeeper in White Orchard as soon as you can afford it.

Just finished hearts of stone. Incredible stuff. It's pretty much better than most full games you'll play. Everything is going to feel like such a big step down after I force myself to stop player the witcher.

On to Blood & Wine.

Been playing the main game for a number of weeks now and it's just incredible - fast becoming one of the best games I've ever played. Deus Ex is in the post but not sure it'll get played that much for a while.

Finally started a NG+ after sorting out all the mods and script conflicts. Promptly got my ass handed to me by the first pack of wolves I ran into...

This game is just too huge. I played quite a bit (Skelige) and was enjoying it but then I went on a vacation and now I've lost all urge to play it again.

Play a decoction build and use Euphoria mutation. Even death march ng+ becomes laughably easy, you can kill monsters 20 levels above you with little trouble.

You need to max out the skill that increases health when you are above toxicity threshold and run 3 decoctions: troll, ekidhna, archgriffin. The combo is basically broken.

This was where you went wrong.

I fecked it too. Didn't have time to play for a few months and now I'm scared to switch it on because I won't know what I'm doing.

I'm doing much better now. I'm building towards a alchemy/sign hybrid focused on crits since I went full melee last time around. It's a lot of fun because you have to use all the resources at your disposal and actually plan ahead, instead of storming in like a bull in a china shop.

Large monsters have been quite easy. It's groups that give me more trouble, especially if they have those damned archers.

You finish Blood and Wine yet?

I've gone for a combat + alchemy build in my second play through. Ekimmara decoction is brutally effective.

I'm jealous. The main quest-arc isn't near as good as Hearts of Stone, but the location and the sidequests are bloody excellent.
Which is all that we could have asked for from two DLCs. Would have been bloody hard to match HoS's story as well given it trumped most of the full game's story lines, if not all of them.

Btw, I've now played two main game playthroughs, HoS and B&W (on going), all in succession. So, basically I've been addicted to this game for awhile and simply seem unable to put it down. Can't remember the last game I played two playthroughs of, consecutively (if ever).

Might buy this tomorrow (the original). Should I buy the expansions straight away as well? Or is it better to wait until I've played the main one for a while?

Or should I just buy Fallout 4 instead?

Wait for the GOTY edition, it's out on the 30th (includes both expansions which are 10 and 20 hours + respectively). Definitely get this over Fallout 4. It's much, much better.

The first DLC is one of my favorite ever expansions. So, wait for the GotY edition as mentioned above.

And play FO3:NV to bide your time instead of 4.

You just have to go for it. It won't take you long at all to get back on track, just go into the character menu and read up on a few and the quests too.

This is exactly the kind of motivational post I wanted when I posted that.

Oh didn't know that, thanks guys. I'll probably buy Metro 2033 in the meantime just to have something to do.

Treat it like when you put down that really highly rated show because it was too overwhelming to begin with - take your pick; The Wire, Mad Men, The Sopranos etc. - then you finally come back to it because the hype from your mates is unbearable, and you finally plough through and realise it's the best decision you made; that is what the Witcher 3 is like in game form.

I stopped watching The Wire and Game of Thrones because I lost where I was up to though.

Well pick up The Wire after you finish The Witcher 3. And then come back and thank me.

Started playing Witcher 3 today again, last played on Xbox now playing it on my gaming rig, any mods anyone can suggest? I know there aren't really many on Witcher but are the ENBs or Texture mods / overhauls worth it for Witcher on PC?

There is a texture mod that will show up as one of the most endorsed. There are several graphics mods. Some just change the colors, others are a complete overhaul. I use the one with the 'gritty' settings. You can use one that just tones down the yellow for a less flashy pallet, or a Fantasy look, and others.

I have about 30-35 mods running now. Though I'm turning off auto apply oils and realistic potions because they get on my nerves. There is a complete overhaul called Witcher Enhanced, but they still improving it, so I just used The Enhancement System. It overhauls battle mechanics, spells, Gwent, etc. I recommend these:
  • Signs overhaul
  • More Horses
  • Leave Roach Alone
  • Gear Improvements Last Longer
  • No item level requirements
  • Better Icons
  • Lore-Friendly Witchers (makes Geralt paler with brighter eyes, as he should look)
  • Always Full Exp
  • Auto-Loot
  • High-Quality Faces
  • More Shadows
  • Fast Travel from anywhere
  • All quest objectives on map
  • Over 9000 weight limit
  • The Witcher 3D Reworked Project
  • Better Trophies
  • Script Merger
  • E3FX graphics overhaul
  • The texture one...forgot the name
The ones in bold I'd consider essential for immersion, or, like in auto loot's case, convenience. There's others like the texture one that don't show up in mod manager because I did them manually, so I'm forgetting a few of them.

Cheers I'll hop on Nexus tonight and install those, the fast travel from anywhere is needed for me after a few hours playtime already!

Just taking another glance...
  • No fall damage!
  • Enhanced wind and weather
  • Improved Wind
  • Hair works on everyone but Geralt
  • Volumetric clouds in Skellige
  • Debug console enabler
  • All NPC scabbards
Qalso, 8 scripts between Always Full Exp conflict with Auto Loot and I can't merge them. So I guess it's one or the other...

Cheers, I wish all developers paid this much attention to their games, I still can't believe the clothing textures on Witcher just how good they look, it was the same with Witcher 2. Managing to hit 45 fps at 2k resolution with all the mods such a beautiful game, although it took me 4 hours to get out of White Orchard and clear all the content.

Thought the creator of Hair works on everything bar Geralt abandoned the mod? I can't get it to work.

Just wait until you get to Novigrad! You'll see a 15-20fps dip. I get a regular 60 @ 1080p everywhere but Noivgrad. When it's night time + raining, oh boy. :(

Also, another mod that's a must have.
