Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

There was a patch for a alternative control scheme so you might want to change to that in the settings (Well there is on PS4). It's better but it's still clunky and not great
Don't think there is for pc, I'll have another look later though, thanks.

There is. It's not an alternative control scheme per se, it's an alternative movement mode for Geralt which makes using ladders, going through doors etc. far more bearable, though perhaps his movement becomes less realistic.

Nice, I'll check it out later.

I stopped playing this because i was to busy at the time and felt like it was a game that required long periods of play so you got engrossed into it. When i did play it, it was a unbelievable game in every aspect but now if have left it to long to pick it back up again and i think i have forgotten most of the stuff about the game and this makes me keep putting it off . :(

finished the expansion, and it's definitely worth the money.

now to wait at least 3 months for blood and wine...

Playing this again. The story has picked up now that I've found dandelion and I'm really enjoying it again.

The 1.10 patch seems to have completely fixed the frame rate now

Just completed the expansion. Absolutely thrilled with it. The three main trials were excellent missions and the stories behind them were equally engrossing. During my quests I found all the pieces to the new viper armour set (except crossbow) and was wondering if anyone has tested it out. I'm currently using the Master crafted feline armour set which is light gear based compared to the viper's medium tendency but the increased armour/damage and the amount of resistances is attractive even if at the expense of % damage boost on the feline set.

Use the codex to get caught up on characters, that should fill in most of the blanks. The gameplay isn't complicated enough to worry about forgetting stuff. The only issue is that most of the story especially in act 1 is really best enjoyed while it's all fresh and you can see everything tying together.

The expansion was very good but I didn't much like the final mission.

I liked the idea of not having a proper traditional boss fight (especially as Nightmare Olgierd was tough enough, definitely harder than Eredin was) but the time limit made it less fun and more like a big rush. They could have created a bigger map, with several different 'solutions' for the riddle at different places - you choose the wrong one, you're dead, you start over.

Also, the whole runewright thing is a bit pointless. Way too expensive to be worth it.

I'm around the same stage you are. Really has picked up in the last few quests, after initially finding it difficult to get into.

Went to Skellige today and wow it's pretty amazing. This game is crazy in terms of quality and content.

My only problem is that I can't check how many hours I've spent playing it. Would really like to know as it's probably near 100 hours and I've got so much left.

Had my ps4 on the last couple days, and my theme is a witcher theme, jesus, the background music makes me want to play it again so bad. Must beat Eredin first and then complete the DLC first before I replay, going to wait till my projector is here before I replay it though

Playing it on a 48" 4k TV is beautiful. Can only imagine what it looks like in native 4k on PC though.

I feel like I'm nearing the end and its quite upsetting because the game is too good.

How much main story stuff do I have left?

Just finished the battle of Kaer Morhen and had the funeral.

Also should I take Ciri to see her dad or not? Hard decision

You're about 75-80% of the way through the main story. Still a good few hours left in the main plot.

Jaysus, the first boss fight is very tough on 2nd highest difficulty on Blood & Stone, especially as my Geralt is a mostly melee build. Took me well over an hour, and a lot of patience, to get him (ribbet) down!

I'm liking the expansion so far although I'm definitely not invested in the plot as much as I was for the main game, and the rune crafting is a bit meh, but it's definitely more challenging which is good.

Depends, did you accept the coin? If so, don't. If not, do.

pics or it didn't happen

Its just the Monster and Scoia'tael decks, but each one has over 100 cards.

Finished this like 2 days ago.

I got the empress ending. It was nice but I would have preferred to get the witcher ending as I feel like it fits Ciri's character and journey more. I also would have really liked it if there was an additional hour or two post game where you get a little more closure but it's fine I guess.

I stopped playing this around 3 months ago because I thought it was a bit overrated (I was so wrong ). The last patch I played was 1.03 so there were some pretty nice updates to the game (the old inventory used to piss me off so much but this one's fine). The graphics are absolutely beautiful, facial expressions are probably the best I've seen in any video game, characters are really interesting, and a lot of the quests are enjoyable. Overall, I'd say this was one of the better gaming experiences I've had in a long time.

Finished it. Great game. I think i am going to take a break and get stuck into Fallout 4 until the next DLC is out for the Witcher and then do both at the same time!

I liked Hearts of Stone, for a DLC it was unreal value, got 12 hours out of it I think, but I did find the plot to it far less engaging than the main game. Was nice to have more challenging bosses, though. The Toad Prince was a total bitch!

Yeah, the overall plot was solid but still a little lacking. Gaunter pisses on Eredin as a villain, though.
The Toad Prince was tough, but feck me, the Caretaker on Death March is just no fun at all.

I am stuck at Level 4 battling the botchling and failing miserably every time. I am still using the starting silver sword. Do I need to upgrade first?

Yes and no. You could simply choose to turn the botchling into a lubberkin, in which case you don't have to fight him (but some other monsters). If you want to fight him, get better equipment and level some more. If you're only level 4 and still have starting equipment at that point you've probably not done much outside of the critical path. Explore some more, get some contracts and map markers from the notice boards and use the recommended level of quests in your journal as guidance.

Thanks, that makes sense. I am currently back to the first region to complete all the question marks. Also, any idea if rolling is more effective against monsters or dodging? I am able to roll out of his way but then ending up too far to attack him.

there's 2 ways of dodging enemies: sidestepping and rolling. looks like you're doing the latter, which is usually for getting out of the battle in bad situations or dodging against big enemies (e.g. elementals). for smaller enemies you have to learn to sidestep to avoid attacks and place you in a good counter attacking position.

Rolling is not meant to be followed up by an attack because as you said you end up too far away. Most attacks should be evaded by dodging, preferably to the side as this leaves you with a good opportunity to inflict critical hits. If you're playing on pc, you might find dodging awkward on its default key binding, but know that you can also dodge by double tapping a direction. This helped me a lot.

It's on a pretty huge 60% sale or something on GOG for PC, and I think it's on discount on the PSN store. Anybody who hasn't already, go buy it. You won't regret it. :smirk:

On Steam sale. Seriously debating getting this seeing as it made almost every GOTY list, but I haven't played 1 or 2. Will I miss out on story details? How's the combat in this one? I couldn't get into the combat of 1 at all.

Most people here would recommend getting the game, especially if it is on sale. I wouldn't worry too much about not playing the others. Of course being a sequel, there are going to be references you won't get regarding story and characters but the developers do a good job at reducing this problem. Otherwise, there are plenty of youtube videos explaining the story (I think ign do a good 5 minute one).

When it comes to combat, it's fine. It's not the best aspect of the game and certainly not as crisp as say Bloodborne's but is a million miles ahead of something like Skyrim. It takes a bit of time to get used to as at first it feels sort of clunky and repetitive, but as you get into the game, it starts to feel more fluid and more tactical.

Admittedly, it's not going to be for everyone. It's a bit of a slow starter, mixed in with initial awkward controls and potentially confusing story, can be a turn off. But if you can break through that, it's certainly best game of the generation by a long distance. For me, it's the best game I have ever played because of it's beautiful design, great graphics, brilliantly depicted characters (no game emits such a wit and dark humour as W3, it puts games like DA:I and ES to shame) and awesome amount of quests and content but without getting overwhelmed.

Besides, if it's cheap then you might as well go for it.
