Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Playing this makes me realise, in my opinion, how hollow Skyrim was.

Quests like collect "Collect 5 Bear hides" or "Collect 10 Nirnroot" and all the copy paste dungeons look fairly crap now.

Come on now, you're doing Skyrim a disservice there. It was a brilliant game, and had some brilliant quests. Not to mention it included the ability to stealth your way through missions - Witcher is slash n' hack.

Don't get me wrong, the Witcher is brilliant, but it doesn't detract from how good Skyrim was either.

What were these brilliant Skyrim quests? I thought it took a step backwards from Oblivion in quest design personally.

Bethesda have shitty gameplay and quest design imo. I haven't played Witcher 3 yet but I would imagine its far superior than the shallow experience of Skyrim...from what I've heard anyway.

Johnny is the best character in the game, to be honest.

@DatIrishFella

That's true, but it also gives you a renewed Tameria, which is what I wanted. Also, pretty sure Roach can turn down your plea for help in Kaer Morhen if you don't do his quest, thus justifying his death, not sure if it's possible to get Djikstra to help as I never found his gold.

And I have been moaning about the the fps on Xbox

Never knew it was that bad on the Playstation.

It's just the swamp area, for some reason it locks to 20fps for long periods. Although it's certainly not perfect outside the swamp, it's supposedly a bit better frame rate wise on the PS4.

Right, with that said, I've just completed the greatest game of all time. What a fcuking awesome ending, for me, anyway. It's the perfect videogame, with fantastic story telling, probably the best ever in fact.

Note, I've never played Planescape Torment, which the hipsters proclaim has the best story! :p

I had no problems with the swamp area on PS4. Have had some issues in Novigrad though.

See that's the thing, it's not a set problem, some people have problems in different areas, so it's kind of a mystery. Example, following Johnny through the swap, frame rate took a nose dive for me, go back a few hours later, fighting 5-6 enemies, game runs fine, which shouldn't be the case as it's a lot more demanding that just following someone.

Got it today on ps4. YEEEEEEEEESS! fecking brilliant so far, everything i wanted. could anyone tell me at what point they do the backstory choice segment? as im worried i accidentally did the "no" option.

There was a some. I remember a sidequest where I got drunk, woke up on the other side of the map and was thrown in jail - probably not all the same quest! What I disliked most about Skyrim was the fact that your choices meant feck all. Joined the thieves guild? Well, we'd love to have your among the mages as well! The Witcher series has always done incredibly well in that regard.

There's a lack of moaning on here about the controls, feels worse than dragon age. Any way to improve things on pc?

Feels about the same as Dragon Age as far as I'm concerned. I also think it plays pretty similar whether you use keyboard and mouse or a controller. I don't have a big issue with the controls really. It suffers from the same issues that most other games do newer games do - they want to make the movement realistic by giving the character momentum when he moves, and because of that it feels less precise and unresponsive. It's a shame IMO because it adds very little to the actual gameplay, but can be hugely annoying (like when you're trying to get to a chest in a corner and you keep taking a step or two too many).

Djikstra doesn't help no matter what. So I broke his other leg when I saved Phillipa. I really liked his character though. Which ending(s) did you get? Did you manage to save Lambert at the battle of Kaer Morhen?

Just went into a room that had a few women in it, but their clothes hadn't loaded before the cutscene started so I was like "Why are they all naked?" then the cutscene loaded and they all had clothes

One of Ciri's stories just bugged out massively for me.

The one where she's running from all of Whoreson's guards. They were all running around as if I was invisible. Looking for something to fight but never actually attacking me. Whe the quest first loaded up it was telling me to find a boat to Skellige which is Geralt's quest. It quickly changed and then everything was coming up so delayed, like the quest updated thing. Very buggy.

There's also no Dandelion with me but I can hear him talking.

Same thing happened with me. Everyone was moving in a weird slow motion walk.

Saved Lambert, yes, my ending Geralt had a sword made for someone, and that someone was Ciri, met her at an Inn, we both went on to be Witchers. Awesome ending as I thought she was dead.

Anyone else notice that the most recent patch hasn't helped that much? In fact it seems to have made the game worse when it comes to pop in. I was standing on the bridge near crippled kates and it took about 20 seconds for the bridge texture to load in.

Just managed to get both Ciri and Geralt cards while trying to complete the Gwent Quests that I had. Pretty happy about it tbh!

Yeah I got the Ciri one. That's beastly.

So, so good. Glad I bought a GTX 970, it looks incredible on Ultra.

I love how long the side quests are, they're stories in themselves. Just doing Keira's ones right now which are excellent.

A million times better than The Witcher 2 was, which I always felt was a bit of a let down.

You lot were not lying when you said Gwent was addicting. Completely hooked on it.

Some of them also influence the main story, I believe!

I'd love to experience it in all it's glory, sadly I've no room for a desktop. One of those steambox would suffice but they're charging €1200 with GTX 970 in it. I know pre-built PC's are robbery, but surely if they're Nvidia, Valve, Alieware etc etc are trying to break into the console market they'd price them a bit more competitively.

Link to this 1200 thingy?

I have died for the millionth time on Blood and Broken bones difficulty.

How people can do it on Death March is beyond me.

Yeah, I've basically been keeping main quests for future so far as I want to approach them at a much higher level (only 7 now, leveling up seems really slow in it) and frankly some of the side quests intrigue me more than the main story  There's one about a series of murders that I want to take but it probably requires higher level from what I remember. I'm about to start the one with missing wife right now.

The world is beautiful in this and I've seen people praise its design it a lot - makes me even more proud that it's basically Poland a few hundred years back. You will still see similar sights here outside big cities too.

I'm visiting Krakow in 2 months :)

So I whistled and 3 Roaches turned up

Wild at Heart is a great side quest and the moral choice presented at the end of it was actually quite difficult for me.

Where do you get the the Ciri and Geralt gwent cards?

I tried to sign up to the tournament in Novigrad but they said I couldn't join because I had a crap deck :(

Also is it me, or is the Northern Realm deck more ridiculously OP than the other decks. I try playing with my Nilgardiaan deck but its so much more underwhelming, despite the numerous heroes I have for it.

I haven't played Gwent at all. Probably a good thing there's too much stuff to do as it is. Sounds like they should make it a mobile game.

Northern Realms is probably the best because of the card advantage instilled into its class power. Monsters power is actually even better card advantage wise and the toughest opponents I've faced have generally been monster decks however I've not got the cards to build a decent deck for it yet.

I try not to play Northern Realms anymore as I've already played so many games with it. You'll gradually get a stronger Nilfgaard deck after a while. The key is having a decent number of good (low attack) spies.

Monster decks seems to live and die by the close units. It just takes one well-timed freeze card to deem it obsolete. Nilfgaard units' attack ratings are too low, haven't really seen enough of the Scio'atel decks to judge.

I'd recommend you start asap since it progresses nicely along with the story, allowing you to play key characters and merchants you come across to win some rare cards.

Northern Realms is the most balanced deck therefore the easiest way to win, once you get some spy cards your well away. Win the first round at all costs to get the extra card draw, then use the 2nd round to either run down the opponents card count or place spys then walk the third round. If you run into an annoying opponent (usually with a monster deck) re-adjust your special cards to match up better, blizzard cards kill monster decks for example.

I've had the Gwent theme stuck in my had all morning.

Replaying on Blood and Broken Bones using a signs build. Combat is so much easier second playthrough.
