Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Should I at least play The Witcher 2 before I play this for the lore? Or is it ok to just jump into?
I'm playing through Witcher 2 right now. It's really good I would play it before Witcher 3.

There's nothing to be gained by just jumping into W3 and skipping 2.

Thanks for the tips lads. I have 2 weeks off work from next week so I'll have plenty of time to game. If I was to play 2 first, how many hours is the main story? Not going to piss about with side quests and stuff.

I think you would be able to finish the 2nd in around 20 hours by skipping all side quests. I would probably play the second on easy as well (it can still be pretty challenging on easy) so you don't need to mess around making potions and all traps.

Yup loaded multiple saves, chosen different dialogs and the game crashes at exactly the same spot. I've googled it and loads of others are having the same problem, the quest is 'Kings Gambit' in Skellige.

Maybe you could try saving your game to the cloud thing and then deleting and reinstalling the game?

It's a known issue, just looking on two separate sites there are about 70 people with the same problem in exactly the same spot. There's a work around but it affects the story which sucks.

Edit: the work around...doesn't work

CDPR have responded to the problem on their official forums and say a fix is on the way.....until then I can't play the game.

That's incredibly shitty. I had something similar for Dragon Age where the last quest in the game just constantly froze half way through so I had to skip the dialogue.

At least its affected quite a few people so they should fix it soon.

Good stuff. Thing I'll give it a go first so.

Finally got out of this stupid dungeon and out in the fresh air.

A hint popped up when I entered the inventory but I closed it accidentally and it's not coming back - something about clicking something to improve, I think, my weapon. What's that about? I can only improve weapon by crafting in places designed for it, right?

I'm supposed to follow the witches at some swamps now. Sounds fun.

It probably meant one of two things:

1) Oils - If you didn't know already you can add oil to your weapons to temporarily increase their effectiveness. Each oil is for a different enemy type - e.g beast oil is for normal wolves, bears and so on, whereas necrophage oil is for drowners, water hags and ghouls. Check your bestiary to know which oil is effective against which creature. Oh, and if you haven't already, craft every oil possible so you're prepared for every fight.

2) It could also be referring to runestones. These are just ugprades you can add to weapons that have an open runestone slot or two (or 3).

The swamp quest is pretty awesome stuff, hella creepy too.

Thanks! I will roam around for a while now and level up (only level 5 now), probably 2-3 hours of exploring the world before I go there. Sailing is brilliant fun. I intend to go over to the big ass city at the east end of the Velen map, no idea what it is but it looks huge. I also want to visit the city on the island which name I don't remember either but I need some sort of permission I can buy from a guy I met around one of the bandit camps I think but I don't remember where he was.

You can find him by looking in your secondary quests I think.

That big city to he east is Oxenfurt, whereas the huge city to the North of the map is Novigrad itself (didn't realise they were both on Velen's map initially).

I didn't bother with the city permits, the border control is atrocious, so I just Dora the Explora'd my way in by swimming into the harbour.

I think they weren't on Velen's map at the beginning, only after I'd left dungeon. Or perhaps they've been added with the latest update, but definitely I don't remember it being there when I first entered Velen.

Yes, I meant Oxenfurt. I probably won't bother going there right now because it's too far from where I am and there are lots of places for me to go to around where I am. I will try to do some side quests but going by the map there are probably around 40 of them in Velen and some will be time consuming (especially searching for people/stuff).

I went back and beat Yoana third time lucky, got some biting frosts and a scorch which did the trick...then my game froze. That bitch is evil I tell you.

Those are some fantastic screens DF.

Does anyone have a clue what's the max level you can get in this game? I'd like to know how I should allocate my ability points (currently going for a fast attack/igni/quen build).

So time to fess up, how much of your life have you already given away to this game? I've put 31 hours in the 7 days since I got it. I feel like it's taken over my life, yet I'm still way behind some of you in here and haven't even been to Novigrad yet

I've completed the main quest and the major side quests. I've been off Uni since it came out and as a result have shamelessly been cranking in solid 10 hour plus sessions almost every day. :nervous:

I got a really good final ending, thankfully. There's one real rotten one, and there's so many mini 'character endings' that are to be completed to. For instance, The Baron as one.

Without spoiling it or going into too much detail ;

How long is left once you take Uma to Kaer Morhen?

You're quite far in the game at this point, but there's easily 10-20 hours of main quest stuff. There will be about 3-5 hours worth of main plot where you can't fast travel and do other things, and later, you'll soon reach a mission where, you'll have to boat somewhere and it'll tell you once you go past this point some side quests will no longer be available*. It'll be obvious when you reach it so don't fret, most - if not all - of the main side quests you'd have done by then. The only one I didn't do was the assassination attempt on Radovid, which I chose not to as it has implications on the end in someway. Double check yourself before doing so, though. All the mini side quests/contracts etc. will all be there, but I'd advise sorting all your gear and potions beforehand.

edit:* It'll probably include stuff like choosing the new ruler of Skellige, but again as those plots are so big and fun you've probably already done them.

Currently rocking superior feline gear and it's pretty crazy. The silver sword mangles everyone.

I was actually looking for my playtime. Is there any screen for this that I'm completely missing?

Go to inventory then press R2/equivalent on Xbox. If you're on PC it should say in the bottom right what button to press once you're in the inventory screen.

Huh, never saw that before cheers. I'll have a look on my PS4 later after I've finished studying. I'm kind of afraid to look now.

Got a problem guys. Says I need to read a letter for the next part of a side quest but I don't have the letter. To be honest I am not sure if I had it and have dropped it or not.

Sweet! Yeah, I've done the Skellige side plot you're referring too,
I chose to help Cerys so I assume that's why she was picked as Queen
. I know you weren't too fond on the place but I absolutely adore it. After I do what I have to do in the place I mentioned I'm in now I'll jump back into adventuring/side questing/gwenting etc.

As for the ungradable armour, I have the Enhanced Griffin, Enhanced Feline & Enhanced Ursine armour all made, have the schematics for the Superior Ursine, still need to find the other two superior schematics.

Really don't want it to end but I can't wait to go through it again on Death March, recently bumped the difficulty up to Blood and Broken Bones and it's much more challenging and rewarding. Gutted I started on Story and Sword as it got way too easy as I unlocked more stuff.

Yup, that's the one. I did the same thing.
It sort of grew on me, some of the quests are great but it was really the navigation that fecked me off. Novigrad, on the other hand, is the best region I've ever seen in an RPG game ever.

How does bear look? Because Griffin is pretty ugly for a witcher armour. I'm more of a light armour man anyway, dodge and weave, runes with burn/poison damage and a cheeky bit of quen to keep me strong. :)

Do you have that quest in as your current quest? Try clicking on everything you own, if not, you've probably sold/dropped or not even picked it up. From what I've heard, wherever you do sell or drop something it'll be in that exact place. If that's the case...

Might sound obvious but if it's relevant to a quest then it should be in the quest items slot rather than the usable items slot and I don't think you'd be able to sell it or drop it. So check you're not overlooking that, because I did it once and it took me about 10 minutes to figure out, scouring through the hundreds of letters I had in my inventory.

Thanks guys. Had to turn if off so can't solve it for now. I don't have anything in the quest items I can read so I am hoping I haven't dropped it because I am never going to find it.

The enhanced Griffin armour I like, has nice green and gold stud design on the back with spikes on the shoulder but it's the weakest armour of the lot, the ursine armour is gorgeous, the enhanced version has this padding on it that kinda ruins how the base version looked tbh. Was kinda disappointed to see the enhanced version of the feline armour covered up the arms.

Yeah, that was a bit of a bummer for me too. How awesome do the swords look with the runes in them, though? A bit LOTR-like with the elven blades.

@BigDunc9 - have you got a manual save that was before the quest? It may help going back. You can also load some earlier check points I think, but there isn't normally many of those.

This werewolf quest is seriously pissing me off. It's not that they are a tough boss that annoys me it's that the suggested level of the quest is so blatantly a lie. I've done level 12 quests that were much easier than this level 8 one where you have to beat a werewolf twice. It's the only thing so far that has required more than 5 attempts for me.

Edit: Got the fecker on my next attempt. It always helps to vent.

Are you having issues completing it or simply beating it in combat? If it's the former
you are meant to feed it werewolf meat when you defeat it.

I have, it is a good bit back though. The quest is in White Orchard and I'm now in Velen. I forget the quest name , ill let yous know tomorrow what its called when I'm back on it.

Cheers no it was the actual combat bit, I think I found it hard because I'm usually quite defensive but you can't afford to be with their life regen. Have to be a lot more aggressive against them.

Ah, I'm the reverse. It's why I really dislike the Griffin/other flying monsters and wraiths. I mean, I can play on the back foot, but I'd much prefer to strike first, and quickly at that.

What is everybody putting points into? I have several points fast attack and Quen, and one in Axii to open up some dialogue options.

I am tempted to level up the fire one to see what it can do...
