Television The Wire

He he, things are about to get really good.
Just started season 3 episode 1. Gonna get it watched before the World Cup coverage starts.

Towers just got blown up.
Lucky sod. Being a teacher, I bet season 4 is going to feck you up.
Ain’t got there yet, but I’ll probably be there sometime next week or so. Summer break gives me a bit of time to knock out some episodes :)

A few years ago I was looking for something to watch and read many great reviews of this show. Only watched the first episode because I didn't know what the feck was going on. From what I remember, there was no character introduction and for all I knew, I was watching an episode from the middle of season 2.

Here I am now reading nothing but positivity on the Caf. Perhaps I should watch a few episodes and really give it a chance.

As someone who just started watching it about 2 weeks ago....

Hell yes you should!

That's one of the great things about it, it's like you're just suddenly given a window into a world to see what's going on. It's not like everything has been created for the sole purpose of the show, it's been there before and will carry on afterwards.

Think it it almost as a docu-series, you're being shown life in Baltimore.

The first time I saw it, I was like WTF is going on for the first 2 episodes. But by the end, it the best TV I have seen.

I love the lack of exposition. It's really crazy how much of a given it is for us to see a scene start with two characters speaking together in a way that just happens to outline all the salient details to catch up people who aren't involved at all. I love that the Wire forces you to piece it all together in your own mind.

Season 4 is the greatest thing ever broadcast on TV (bar United triumphs).

Season 3 for me is the greatest single season of TV ever. But it's so close with season 4, I think most on the Cafe slightly prefer 4. Wish I was @Carolina Red right now.

That’s a great way to describe it!

Best bump thread ever.

You guys are makin me blush.

Interesting start to the season so far.

Fecking Cheese... literally talking about his damn dog.

Also, that paper bag scene at the end was deep.

Man, so much I'd like to say to you, but...nah, just enjoy it.

He’s saying that the past is always wit us. Where we come from, what we go through, how we go through it... all this shit matters. Like at the end of the book, boats and tides an all... It’s like you can change up, right, you can say you somebody new, you can give yourself a whole new story. But, what came first, is who you really are. And what happened before, is what really happened. And it don’t matter that some fool say he different cause the only thing that make you different is what you really do or what you really go through. Like, you know, like... all them books in his library. Now, he frontin wit all them books, but if we pulled one down off the shelf, ain’t none of the pages ever been open. He got all them books, and he ain’t read near one of them. Gatsby... he was who he was, and he did what he did. And cause he wasn’t ready to get real with the story... that shit caught up to him. I think, anyway......

My bike may be fecked so I'll be getting the train to work for the next month. 3 episodes of Happy! to watch )2nd time) and then this is going on the tablet. All 5 seasons 720p X265 is only 15GB. It will all fit on easily.
First time watch for me, too.

In fierce competition with The Sopranos for the best show ever. So many fantastic characters and like someone said an almost documentary feel about it. Hard to imagine it ever being beaten.

I've still got that to watch, too.

The Sopranos? I envy you. Like I said, along with The Wire, it’s the best show ever made. And there are six seasons of it!

Almost done with Season 3
- I like Colvin. Everything worked against him though. Damned unfortunate
- Herc’s really starting to piss me off
- The guy who opened the boxing gym... there was a guy on CNN Heroes that sounds just like that character.
- WTF is McNulty doing with the DC dominatrix chick?

Added a couple more thoughts in the spoiler... but... totally agree. He’s a damn idiot.

The guy who opened the gym is Cutty, full name (no joke) Dennis Wise

Yea Herc started out ok but quickly became a joke, he was a good character because obviously that kind of guy exists in the department but he was a total prat.

I watched the Wire before Sopranos, and was disappointed by the latter.
Heard so many people raving about it. Found it very repetitive with the odd high point.

A controversial view to some, but I bet, not to others.

I had this exact same experience. I don't really rate Sopranos but its a fair point that it was probably the first of the 21st century drama shows so the quality standards weren't as high when it was made. I don't think I'd have Sopranos in my Top 10 or Top 15 of all time though.
