Television The Wire

It was good, quite entertaining and insightful. It is called Generation Kill but is was only a 7 episode miniseries about the Invasion of Iraq

feck yeah it is good, sets up the whole series imo. The only season that is somewhat weak is 2, but then when you watch Season 5 you realize how important it was.

As a whole it is amazing how everything in that complex shows fits together like a piece of a puzzle

Seen the first season and started on the second. Love it so far.

The characters are extremely complex, and you find yourself liking the bad guys more than the "good ones" at times. Loads of good comments, and "cool" slang too.

I know what you are saying about liking the bad characters seems, good and bad traits are given to every character on the show. It portrays a real city, no one is perfect, especially good guys hahha

Hey, also the 2nd season is my least favorite but stick with it(it sets up the fifth season quite nicely, Yes they are thinking that far down the road), the third is fecking awesome, and the fourth sets up the finale. For me it is between the 5th and the 3rd for the best seasons of The Wire and although I am leaning to the 3rd I still can t turn my back away from this final one there is something so pure about so serene, they could have kept making ten more seasons is the thing about everything just keeps going.

Most Underrated characters of all time: Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell; B&B

Personally, i thought the second season was excellent. Season 5 for me was the weakest, where McNulty was acting like a cnut and all.

I'd say that the first thee seasons are my favorites.

McNulty was always a cnut

Season 2 was great, just a bit slow; so I was giving him the woring, if it seemed slow stay with it

As for season 3, my feck what a season

And Season 5 watch it again there is nothing weak about it, I think it is probably the most brilliant and complex in the end

I really envy anybody watching the wire for the first time.
It is the best thing ive ever seen on tv. Only thing id say is dont watch a whole season everyday like i did, i honestly couldnt help it.
Why this has never been on british tv puzzles the fuk out of me, surley HBO sell it off cheap now.

i couldnt help but like McNulty. but Omar is iconic.. making that character gay was a stroke of genius.

Omar is great, I`ve heard that his scene as a witness in court is up there with the best ever, can`t wait to see it. Love Bunk, Stringer Bell as well. I also quite liked D`Angelo and that (SPOILER ALERT) little westside kid with the dreads who got shot- Wallace or something.

Is it correct that the show never got very good ratings in the US?

The creator David Simon said that it was not popular really until it was discovered by the European audience and that the audience in the US took notice, he felt that too many in the US didn't feel that the lives of Omar, Stringer, Avon, DiAngelo, Prop Joe, Marlo, Keema, Bunk and Bubbles were relevant enough to them, not "'cos they is black" really but because it looks like an incomprehensible world at first glance if you have no prior experience of it.

Fwiw I thought McNulty's regression to a selfish fuqwit was brilliantly done in the end but I was sceptical when it began.
I like the fact that Omar Little is the next US President's favourite character as well.
The complete box set is out in the UK on Monday.

Don't mean to rehash an old thread but... feck me this really is the best bit of TV I've ever seen. I really didn't think I'd be saying that, thought it was going to be over-hyped.

The only shows that come anywhere near it are Deadwood and Oz.

I'm watching it online an episode a day. Very good telly show but I only came across it because of the hype. I still prefer the Shield but that's probably because I stumbled across that without any hype.

And that court scene with Omar was a classic - well worth a watch.

And there you kill your credibility. :nono:

But its all about opinions, right?

I recently just got round to watching this series after getting series 1 & 2 cheap, I cannot beleive this slipped by me for years, incredible stuff so far and I shall be on the lookout for the rest of the series now. This is now my second all time TV series just behind The Sopranos.

Replace The Sopranos and Oz and that's the same situation I was in. Once I finished season 5 though ... I had to rethink.

In some respects The Wire was certainly better than The Sopranos, that said I think the Sopranos just edges it for me, but what can I say "...deserve got nothin to do with it"

Also LegENd hasnt seen seasons 3 and 5 which I believe are the two best

If anything will beat The Sopranos this will do it, I'm gonna go check out the town tomorrow for the rest of the seasons.

I probably should've mentioned the Sopranos too. Brilliant show but I wasn't as much of a fan as most.

Still, The Wire, Sopranos, Oz, Deadwood... all made by HBO. Long fecking live HBO please.

I have had the final episode left to watch for a few weeks - i dont want it to end.

I was really disgusted about the way they killed off Omar. A character like him deserved better.

I have now watched all the seasons and it really is the most incredible show, I still can't work out how this one slipped by me for years.

I love the characters, the backdrop, the pacing, everything.

Yes, you should or actually we can get Chris out of Jessub to do it for you. How can you not like the show?

I don't know man,all of the shows I was advised to watch during years this is the one where I've always been bored watching it.It's too boring for me

I can sort of understand how you could feel this for series 2 which people have said can be boring at times (even though it's up there as the best with series 1 imo) but not for series 1 and 3. It's addictive viewing.

Seasons 1,3, and 5 are my favorites, 2 and 4 were a little bit slower but still excellent all and all
