Television The Wire

What a fecking finale, probably liked the Sopranos more but this finale was absolutely brilliant, always saw S**m to step up.

I could see a movie spawning from this. Did anyone else see the John Adams preview and the Iraq war show preview, both looked pretty promising, not really surprised HBO has delved into that genre as it is so prominent on the American landscape especially considering all the politicians talk about it every three seconds

Spoiler Warning!@#$%^&*

Loved the way it had Chris Partlow and Webie Brice walking the yard at the end

Loved how Omar caused Marloe to lose his respect on the streets

Heartbroken about what happened to Dukie

Loved how Michael seems to have turned into the new Omar

Loved how Slim, got one back for Joe

Pretty much loved everything else about the Series as well

I'm about to start watching the Wire soon, looking forward to it. I've seen the first 5 episodes of series one before but I want to start from the beginning again. It's complex and has a lot of characters so I don't want to get lost!

Amazing show, great end. Unbelievable that at one point the series had only 1 million viewers and never won an EMI. Kudos to HBO for sticking with it despite the lack of popular acclaim.

Best thing I have ever seen, either on TV or on film. A 60 hour long story, brilliant the whole way through.

I had my first post-Wire sighting today of one of the actors from the show. The guy who plays the crooked drug lawyer, Maury Levy, was in an Arby's commercial. He doesn't have a line, he's just a shlubby-looking guy walking down the street, briefcase in one hand, Arby's sandwich in another. He walks past a group of construction workers, who ogle his sandwich. It was pretty sad.

I had heard David Simon, among others, complaining that after so many black actors had performed so well in this show, he was afraid that now that it's over, they'll have trouble getting work that's as interesting, because parts for black actors in movies and films are usually one-dimensional. Instead Levy is the first to be seen slumming - wonder who will be next.

Maury Levy got the gig because his wife is a writer for the show I believe, talk about luck, that said he has done excellent.

This is a very provocative post, I reckon Marlow, Bunk, ,Omar, and Daniels will all be getting good roles now. Reckon that Michael and Dukie will too, if they work hard and pursue it.

Daniels is on Lost currently and has a Cadillac commericial he ain't doing to bad

One of the best performances of the series was by Snoop(which is actually her nickname), it was really helped by the fact that she was from the hood, all tatted up and talk like a gangsta. Love the scene were Mike figures out Marlow is gunning for him. "How my hair look Mike?" "It look good girl" BANG

I hope you're right (especially Bunk and Omar), but I'd imagine at least a few of them will find it hard to consistently get work with any substance. Of course, compared to The Wire, everything else is less substantial.

Here's the interview with David Simon, if you're interested. It's streaming audio. Among other things, he talks about how they cast Wendell Pierce as Bunk. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=87940925

This was a brilliant show. Is it definitely finished, someone from America?

Senator Clay Davis is a legend.

Yeah, i suppose that was the theme of the last few episodes. The more things change the more things stay the same. Duquon was deffo going the way of Bubbles but that character`s arc whilst painful had a relatively happy ending. Same with Omar for me, death was probably a release.

The 5th and final series starts tonight on FX for those yet to see it.

Think its at 10pm.

Saw the last episode of series 4 on Friday. Awesome stuff, the part where Wee Bay gives up his son to Colvin was very emotional too.

Two series in just about to start on the third. What a fecking great programme, i've heard series 3 and 4 are the best as well!

Oh that was the point of the whole outro imo, no matter what happens(in the near future) Baltimore, Maryland is still gonna be Bodymore, Murderland. Hell Carmelo Anthony was in a stop snitching video 2 years back

5 is my favorite after 3, although I love on the major topics they touch on: the kids/mayoral elections(4), the projects(1), the working class(2), gang wars/addicts(3), corruption in the press and police(5). Probably a better storyline than the Sopranos, but has too many characters to develop to actually surpass the Sopranos in my mind, still right up there in my mind.

I have 4 Shows on DVD:

Rome (1-2)
The Sopranos(1-7)
Entourage(1-4-)
The Wire(1-4) cant wait to watch 5 again, Michael;s turning on marlow and killing Snoop were Godfathereaque

How did the show not get nominated for an emmy, and Omar for a supporting actor nod, absurd.

Too dark and downbeat for mainstream America.

The Sopranos was just as dark imo, and got boatloads of nominations. The thing that I find shocking is that all the critics rate it, so how in hell did they not get any is beyond me

Haha Michael is on the new Beverly Hills 90210

Half the cast has popped up in Heroes, it seems. A bit of a demotion.

Fantastic show. I personally prefer The Shield, but accept The Wire is a better show, in terms of being well written and less formulaic.

Series 4 is the best in my view, but they are all good and you could make a case for all of them to be the best in their own ways. No really weak serieses.

Fabulous show so far. I've only got Series 1 & 2.

3,4, and 5 are on the xmas pressie list ;)

I can't recommend it highly enough. Even better than the Sopranos and The Shield imo, which is going some. Some of the acting is top drawer.

Omar while being my favourite, is seriously hard to believe as a character. My only real gripe with the show in fairness.

Yeah Omar is certainly the best homosexual character ever. His performance in Season 5 was absolutely brilliant, most of the cast was as well

But he's Batman. Particularly in season 5. Great character and I personally feel the fantasy elements work really well with the tone of the show.

I have serious problems with season 5 with the fake serial killer plot line but I think it has some good moments and the last few episodes pull it together and it finishes well.

Series 1,3 and 4 are something else though.

Felt the same about the serial killer plot line. Went too far in my opinion. First season's the best in my eyes.

The Wire is extremely realistic compared to most crime dramas.

I'm in the middle of season 3, brilliant show, on par with Sopranos.

Omar is good but Stringer Bell is my favourite character.

Season three was pure fecking class, the finale that year was great really set up the final two season. Yeah I loved Barksdale and Bell, hell pretty much loved loved every character especially Slim(watch for a classic line from him in teh Season 3 finale), as for the good guys McNulty was fecking ace as were Freamon and Bunk

Omar is good but Stringer Bell is my favourite character.

If Omar is lifted from the comic pages Stringer is Shakespearean tragedy.

Season 3 hits the greatest dramatic heights. Even if season 4 is probably the best bit of writing i've ever seen on my idiot box.
