Nah, it's alright when the white guys talk.
A slightly racist comment there I think. There's nothing wrong with how anyone in The Wire speaks, it's all perfect and part of what makes the show so amazing because it's so realistic. The street slang is so damn spot on too, and incredibly eloquent at times. I especially love how the actual police pronounce it "Po-Lease" That always amuses me, especially when coming from The Bunk.
@Brwned I kind of agree with most of what you said there about Season 5. I've literally just watched all 5 series again in 2 weeks, and watched all of S5 in one go last night. Being only 10 episodes, it wasn't too much trouble watching it all in one go. I disagree about the theme track, as personally I think it's the best version aside from Season 1, but each to their own and all that, especially with regards to music.
As for the actual season, I find it is the weakest of the 5 for sure. I still like it as there is a lot of good in there, but a lot of shit too, and it also leaves a fair bit unfinished or it rushes some stuff. BUT! It's still a great series, just the weakest season of the 5.
I didn't like Joe going, but accept he had to. I hated how Omar went, but again think he had too, and the same with Brodie, I hated how he went too, but accept it's all in the game and he had to get got yo. I liked Carver getting his promotion, and Daniels getting fecked over fit the story quite well really. The Clay Davis angle was one great storyline in S5, especially how he wriggled out of it all and the Feds fecking over the Police out of spite with not taking "the headshot" was also a great twist.
Kima turning rat didn't sit right, especially after everything McNulty and Freamon did for her. The newspaper stories all feel a little rushed and incomplete and also a bit of a stretch at times. It also did seem slightly contrived especially compared to how well the previous seasons were written.
One minor grumble was in the final montage at the end where McNulty was looking over Baltimore and everything was being tied up, there was no showing of Avon at all. You saw Chris and Wee-Bey in prison, but not Avon, or "The Russian" and I just felt that was a little strange and stupid especially considering how important both were to the story. I know both were featured earlier in S5 when Marlo went to visit them, but still, it annoyed me a little at the end.
As for the rest of the show, I can't fault seasons 1-4. On the second watch I got to appreciate them more and especially season 2 that I wasn't overly keen on the first time I watched it. Now I think it's joint favourite alongside the amazing first season, with season 3 and 4 just slightly behind, again with so much to love in them so they are hard to separate. All in all it's an amazing show, and I already want to watch it again, but I'm half way through The Sopranos and think I will give it another year or so before watching The Wire again. One thing's for sure is that I still think it's definitely the best and easily my favourite TV show of all time.
