Television The Wire

S2 was ambitious and really great stuff. To basically just go away from what made s1 great (and its characters) and shift focus was bold. But ultimately it paid off. I got into the show around end of s4 so when I binged it, it was in time for s5.

The Fck scene was just brilliant and it was like episode 4. Just mesmerizing. The chess scene is one of my favs as well. But the opening scene was brilliant:

"You got to. Its America, man."

I loved the second season. It could easily have been a standalone without the other seasons.
Although i think it's also an important link to the docks and how the drugs are brought in to Baltimore.

I started to watch this but couldn't get into it and didn't even finish the first episode. Am I missing out?

Missing out big time. It did take me a while to get hooked, but I loved it. I never usually ever think of watching a tv series twice but The Wire, Breaking Bad and Prison Break (S1) are things I'm sure I'll watch again at some point.

I loved Prison Break and Breaking Bad too, both 2 of my favourite ever series, I must get into The Wire too then.

This has probably been posted before, and I am drunk so forgive any repetition, but its my fave quote from this show.

"If the gods are fecking you, feck them back. This is Baltimore; the gods will not save you."

What a fecking show.

"American democracy. Let's show these third-world fecks how it's done."

When was this? Can't imagine a context for it. I know the Iraq war was ona few TVs within the show but nothing beyond that.

Rawls, I think when Hamsterdam gets raided toward the end of season 3?

Edit: actually it's during the mayoral election in S4?

Season 4 during the mayoral elections:

It's in season 4 during the election campaign.

I just watched a crime show where they showed how a Baltimore murder was solved. Guess where the victim was murdered: a vacant house.

Still nowhere near as fun as when the actress playing Snoop was arrested for drug dealing... Caught on wire taps.

If I could rewatch The wire or Breaking bad with fresh eyes it would be the wire. That's how good it was.

"You are a parasite who leeches off the culture of drugs--"

"Just like you, man. I got the shotgun... you got the briefcase... 's all in the game, though, right?"

they're not even comparable, anyone who rates BB over The Wire hasn't got a bleedin' clue.

My favourite line in the best TV show of all-time. Uttered by one of the best characters ever created. Just perfect.

I liked BB as much as the next guy but The Wire shits all over it. It's just next level and it's there completely on its own.

Yeah I just rewatched some of the 'worst' Wire season (5) and its just on another level to Breaking Bad. And the Sopranos really didn't age well imo either.

I feel Gomorra and Romanzo from Italy come next after the Wire. Hap and Leonard deserves a mentioned too.

Just finished season 2 and love it. The show gets better and better as you get to know the characters.

Have to have the bloody sub-titles on though for fear of missing something important. Whoever described it as a visual novel earlier in the thread was bang on.

Kinda felt for Frank at the end... He was a good guy.

You're a rare one to be so into season 2 so quickly, normally takes a rewatch or two for most to really get it.

You're about to enter TV on a whole other level with 3 and 4 though, you lucky cnut!
