Television The Wire

Sopranos spoiler maybe do feel free to read on
Yeah that would really suck it would be like learning Tony kills Chris towards the end of the Sopranos when you were on Season 4 or summat

Warning: Big Sopranos Spoiler Above

Hey man it's in a spoiler, that's the thing about spoilers when you open up a spoiler you never know what you are going to get

In The Wire's thread you'd expect it to be about The Wire, though. Someone may have seen all of this but not yet watched Sopranos.

They would be an idiot, if they havent seen either, but regardless I was just commenting on how bad I felt for adexkola my heart really goes out to the young g

Just finished Season 2.

Not as good as Season 1, but still some very very good shit all the same.

Last episode did a good job of setting up season 3.

It's fecking annoying...I purchased season 1 2nd hand on Play. Season 2 I got from the library as I'm skint. Went to the online library catalogue just now to order season 3 and they haven't got it, despite having 4 & 5. cnuts.

That should never be a reason for you to try and get an illegal torrent of season 3.

I feel your pain...

I remember watching the 1st seaon of 24, liking it a lot and going onto Amazon to buy season 2 (this was when I had about 4 epidoes of season 1 left to watch). The review of it said "...struggling to come to terms with the brutal mirder of his wife at the hands of Nina Myers..."

Started this again from the start, season 1 is brilliant, definitely the best one for me.

having been on the look out for some decent TV for a couple of months and failing to find any serious entertainment in the likes of Dexter or Lie to ME I decided to give this a go

have watched up to 'The Hunt' episode so just a couple more to finish the series.

Its been good, a bit of a slow start but i'm looking forward to seeing the end

a couple of questions for Fans, but dont give too much away please:

does it get better or is series 1 as good as it gets?
-i've enjoyed it so far but wouldnt say its fantastic so i dont know if i want to do the other 5 series if they're just gonna go downhill

does each season have a new bad guy/case or is Avon the villian throughout?
-surely they cant drag his gang out across so many seasons

Will i see more of Bunk?
- he's class and consistantly cracks me up

It gets better then 1 IMO, although 1 was one of the best seasons after you reflect on it, however I had the same concerns as you during the 1st season. Just watch it and don't ask to many questions, I ruined it for myself by reading up on it before watching.

Oh and yes there is lots more bunk.

Man I wish I had never seen The Wire. Absolute best TV series I've ever watched, and I've watched a few.

To those who haven't watch it, do so! And watch it religiously, because you won't understand just how good it is until you don't have any more episodes to watch.

It's the best I've ever seen on TV, ever. And I've seen Sopranos. Which I thought was pretty good, but quite a bit from "The Wire" level. I just love these epic HBO series. Rome is another of my absolute favourites.

okay so i finished series 1 last night, found the final episode a little underwhelming but all in all a really good show with some excellent characters across the 2 factions. I'll be starting season 2 tonight because i'm interested to see where they go with it. Will it be a new villian, a new team, new crimes etc

dunno about the comparrisons to the sopranos yet though guys, its some way off that level imo (so far anyway)

Not sure you'll love it all that much though. I thought it was better than The Sopranos by the end of the 1st series.

Saying that, keep going to the 4th series, it's the best of the lot.

Second season is the most undewhelming to a lot of people I've spoken with. I'm finding hard to compare the seasons, but three and four were probably my favourites, so keep going!

Yeah, I've seen all of Sopranos as well, and I love everything related to the mafia (I've seen and own all of the Italian "Il Capo dei Capi" series), but it simply doesn't match The Wire. Nothing does!

Without revealing too much, the thing is that the Wire doesn't follow your regular TV scheme... It doesn't necessarily build to the most epic of climaxes in the finale of a season, it's spaced out a lot more and some seeds are planted in one season and harvested several seasons down the line. Also, I'd say that the first two seasons set the background up, and then you get the true scope of the show.

Just enjoy it in its entirety, and yeah, don't read up on it before watching... I'll add my name to the lot who reckon the Wire is head and shoulders above other TV shows.

I agree with this entire paragraph, though I dunno about you but I found that the second season got better and better as it moved along... Probably one of the best endings to a season as well, in its own way.

Finished watching Series 5 a week ago, what a show that was!

Slightly peeved off on a few things in the end:

1) Marlo getting away with it all...I understand that it's a realistic portrayal with the good guys not always winning, but I was watching the whole series in anticipation of him finally being arrested, or gunned down by Omar or something. The same could be said about the lawyer prick and that Scott Templeton journalist...all ended the series a lot more successful than when they were when first introduced on the show.

2) Kima admitting she ruined the lives of Freimon and McNulty and they were fine with it....maybe its just me but I'd be bitter as feck if some bitch stitched me up to the seniors resulting in me losing my career and everything I've worked for.

Besides that a great and fitting finale, I'm a little upset now knowing there won't be much else to match it :(

Here's hoping Simon has several things gnawing at him that he'll bring to HBO... Considering how the Wire turned out, getting better and better, I'm also carrying some hope for Tremé, which at least has captured my interest.

Was looking at the cost of the collection on DVD earlier and saw these 'prequel' videos on Amazon, probably been around since Hitler sunk the Titanic but feck it, I hadn't seen them so others might not have:

Also, pretty interesting that 'Snoop' from the later episodes is actually known as Snoop in real life and served time for shooting and killing someone in self defence.

It seems I'm very behind the times, I didn't even know McNulty was English in real life!

I also only found out his was British this week, I also forgot he was in a few episodes of the American Office!

He was the one who Jim tried blagging about liking 'soccer' I think, he was only in a few episodes.
